u see competition is great for customers. now both Maxis and Unifi have tight games to attract customers to join their fiber. I got 6 months of free bill rm129 for 100mbps with wifi6 router by maxis, while just now, unifi counter back with rm129 300mbps 6 months free bill plus wifi6 router as well. currently on 30mbps under unifi.

2 years ago, unifi give me 43" LED TV for joining them from maxis 30mbps.

True, but I wish they would focus more on increasing speeds/lowering prices instead of rewarding users for just jumping between the same few isps every 2 years.

eh? for me on GX50 it says the booster is RM3 for 3 GB of htospot quota, valid for 3 days
also technically you can still hotspot while the quota is finished but the speeds are painfully slow

there's also [cannot say due to rules in this thread]

I think U Mobile used to use Maxis/Celcom for fallback back then (not 100% certain on this)
but now they have their own network, they're not an MVNO
I use their GX50 plan, if I claim the pendala free data thing, it unlocks high speed and its honestly quite fast compared to my yoodo sim which is using celcom

give them a try if you want

Hi there, just wanna ask for GX50, the speed is 5Mbps right? idk why i went to test speed in the app and it showed 20+Mbps for download, did Umobile upgrade the speed?

telco's always do acceleration for speedtest.net

try other speedtests like fast.com, nperf, cloudflare speedtest
especially fast.com as it's by netflix, the test is done against netflix servers so they cant selectively speed up the speedtest without also speeding up real netflix traffic

I tot telco price will be more cheaper soon?

Honestly seems like a lot of telcos have taken advantage of 5g as new hot stuff to raise prices again

lock lte band
u-mobile using band 1 3 7 8
do the speed test (not netfliz streaming test)
normal with u-mobile

I would say doing the netflix speedtest is more realistic

isps love to accelerate speedtest.net speedtests, like im on GX50 which is capped at 5mbps, yet on speedtest it goes beyond
yet on other speedtests like netflix, cloudflare, it gives me my real speeds

I just contacted U Mobile Customer Service. The latest update:

STARTING TODAY (10th FEBRUARY 2023)!

Postpaid 38

Upgrade from 30GB to 60GB instantly.
Hotspot 5Gb is given for free, then after finish it will then consume from pool of data

Postpaid 68

No changes (same like old plan) --> Hotspot 5Gb is given for free, then after finish it will then consume from pool of data

Postpaid 98

No changes (same like old plan) --> Hotspot 5Gb is given for free, then after finish it will then consume from pool of data

So meaning only Postpaid 38 will get the upgrade only! This is due to the 5G demand which needs more data and U Mobile have given to it!

At this point with my current data usage I might just consider moving to Postpaid 38, would be cheaper and uncap my speeds

I am paying rm58 monthly for GX68 postpaid plan after permanent discount. Do you think umobile will maintain a discount for me if I upgrade to GX98 plan.
Also is hotspots unlock only for 5g usage or include 4G.
*
It's mentioned in the FAQ
https://www.u.com.my/en/personal/support/fa...stpaid-38-68-98

If I am currently enjoying a RM10 rebate for my Giler Unlimited GX68 plan, what will happen to it if I upgrade my line to the new U Postpaidâ„¢ 68?
If you upgrade to the new U Postpaidâ„¢ 68, your rebate will no longer be applicable/active. Any form or rebate/promotion of your existing rate plan will be ceased once your change rate plan/terminate.

As for the hotspot thing, honestly im not sure

Hi guys, I have a question. Can I subscribe to U Postpaid 98 and install it to a sim router, e.g. Huawei B818 to use?

Since my area doesn't have fiber and 1000gb seems ok to me, was thinking to use it for my home wifi
*
I doubt it since telcos really dont want you to use their "unlimited" / high quota plans in modems as they expect you to not be able to use that much data normally on a mobile phone

for home usage, they would want you to subscribe to a home broadband plan, such as the ones offered by Maxis, U Mobile or Yes as examples

Then like that ayam need to report to Umobile authorities  rclxub.gif
Haram ni... over exceed / abuse Hotspot quota given.  mad.gif
Let them know Umobile punya sistem got leaking problem  innocent.gif
*
they changed the 5g plans
you get 5gb hotspot quota
after that runs out, it uses your main data pool to hotspot
so yes, you are allowed to hotspot the 1000gb that is given

Unless you stayed with GX68, P99, P139...

5G currently under DNB right?

All Malaysia telcos (be it yellow, mandarin, green, blue,...) share the same tower and same infrastructure for 5G

And currently 5G is under 'TRIAL'

What do you think will happen
*
Well guess ill just wait and see how it goes and change plans/jump telcos depending on the situation

I notice speed test with umobile app and speedtest app with umobile server can get more than 1G speed on 5G, but fast.com only can get 190mb. Even update app also slower than 100mbps WI-FI
*
expected, isps/telcos priority/speedup to speedtest sites such as speedtest.net or nperf.com
the servers are usually run by the telco

fast.com is run by Netflix, and it serves the speedtest from the same server that provides netflix content
so, the telco doesnt know if you are doing speedtest or watching netflix
and thus does not speed it up

so, fast.com would be the more accurate real result

also if you notice, doing speedtest with speedtest.net doesnt consume your date, but if you do with fast.com it will consume data

Umobile 5G can get 190Mbps speed on fast.com so means it did not limit video streaming speed.
Sometime even can get 600mbps speed on speedtest, so I think is routing unstable
*
well, with a logging dns I see it connects to ipv4-c002-szb001-umobile-isp.1.oca.nflxvideo.net (and others)
so, maybe local?

still, with
speedtest to speedtest/nperf, directly to isp server

speedtest to netflix, you have to go out and route to netflix's server

so it would be a more realistic result that speedtest.com since it's actually connecting outside of isp's own network
