Yeah I know, but the main thing I dislike about time is they need to pull in the cable into your apartment, not very nice aesthetically, even if you do trunking

Too bad then if appearance is the choice.

Hi Guys,
Just wondering how long does it takes for Unifi to come over for installation?
Or maybe average waiting time?
Besides, is there any way to speed up the process? lol
*
Depend on the available of installer, i have waited 1-2 weeks because i request to install on Sat, but sadly they absense and report back said I'm not in house while I've waiting in the house the whole day, and the installer phone no. they provide is false no, and now i have to wait their installer come again again...

I am aware of that, but Cat 6 provides additional benefits and its price when compared to Cat 5e is not that much different.

Hi all,

A question - I went to TMPoint today to change my plan to the 100mbps - RM129 package (currently on 50mbps)

The guy told me that my apartment is still using copper wiring, and as such its not able to accommodate 100mbps speeds. He told me he will change my existing plan, so that I will pay RM129 (lower than what I'm paying now) for my current speed (50mbps).

Is this normal?
*
There are users here who have posted similar. They got RM189/199 reduced to RM129 for 50M. The RM99 50M still seems to be "hidden" from public.

QUOTE(Shinka @ Oct 30 2018, 09:46 PM)
Thanks, I tried but the best he could give me was rm 119 at 30mbps and there's a quota.

I find it weird as there is time broadband in my building but the guy says that my building is still using copper? (find that switching to time is too much hassle, as they will pull the cable into my apartment)
*
The RM119 30M should not have quota. It is the RM79 30M that is supposed to have quota.

You should find out details about Time service in your building. You can get better speeds and lesser price.

Unless you are happy with 50M and the price, then its your choice. But this does not seem like a good reason if you can save some money and get double the speed if it is useful to you.

Even if TM were to pull fibre to provide higher speed, they will have to do the same thing as Time. You will be stuck with TM current speed if they only use copper for now. I am not sure how fibre is pulled inside the building but surely it cannot be that bad until it looks that ugly.

Guys, need some opinion for these 2 router. Asus RT-AC86U and GT-AC5300.

Since my unifi is being turbo, I'm thinking of getting a new router to maximize the speed of it.

My usage aren't that great at the moment as I don't play games, no torrent. Just using my unifi with light stuffs like fb, youtube, video streaming, iptv and so on. The only thing is that there are roughly 10-15 devices will be connected to the router. And I hope my next router wifi coverage will be able to cover as much area as possible for my house.

RT-AC86U : RM600+-, Dual Core 1.8GHz, 256MB Flash, 512MB RAM, Dual Band, 4 LAN Port

GT-AC5300 : RM1400+-, Quad Cord 1.8GHz, 256MB Flash, 1024MB RAM, Tri Band, 8 LAN Port

For extra RM800 for better process, more ram, extra 1 5GHz, extra 4 ports, I'm also interested to know the wifi coverage for both of these model, which one has better wifi coverage, and roughly by how many %?

Coverage depends on your physical house. Too many variables. No matter what they say, it will still be a try and find out when u eventually get the router. There are no right answers. Also, at least for me, the extra 4 ports come into good use.

TM do FTTH trunking in my current apartment, the only visible is the thin black fiber cable.

You can talk to the installer to properly drill/stick the cable.

I always have the impression that the higher the AC rating, the more antenna a router have, usually will have wider wifi coverage. Indeed 8 ports do seems like more future proof, even though my current C1200, I only use 2 out of 4 ports. 1 for router, another 1 for my tvbox. Later on might be getting a used STB since my unifi comes with the Ultimate pack.

Hopefully someone who is using the GT-AC5300 can give some brief user experience as I read some online review, some say it is buggy...

Yes antennas but blockage, where u locate it etc will always play a big part regardless. There really isn't a set answer.

Best you find out all your options. From TM, Maxis and if got, from Time. Ask building management if got plans for fibre.

Those in high-rise and on 30M / 50M now and the infra cannot support higher speeds, and paying more than RM119 / 129 should get your package price changed. Apparently this reduction is now available. You can even try customer service via chat or phone first to check if it can be done and may not even need to go to TMPoint. If anyone does this, please post here to confirm.

If your infra can support higher speeds, you are not eligible for this price, as you can get the RM129 100M anyway. I think this is to renew your contract for 2 years.

There should be no reason for users to keep paying the old higher prices. So please find out whether your prices can be reduced.

Has anyone upgraded to the new packages this week without going to TMPoint? It seems you can do it by calling them, but as customer service tells different things sometimes, it would be good to get confirmation from users who have actually done it recently.

RT-AC86U is good enough for your uasge, But with a tri-band Router you can try to balance up devices connected to each wifi network(You can do the same with Wifi AP tho)
