Honestly with my router, I doubt it can work well with 500Mbps as well but just that I want to get the best out of my account. So, it has to be 800Mbps even if I cannot maximize the speed now. biggrin.gif

I think my journey with TM has been epic so far, I can come out with a short post to spell out my chronicle of Turbo upgrade.

Was the wait long at Menara TM? Have 2 accounts that need to either be downgraded or somehow price reduction since overpaying.

Yes, long wait and super crowded as it is a full fledged TM Point, can do every single service there.

Darn. Apparently same situation at Uptown TM branch as well. sad.gif

On the average, after a complaint to MCMC, how long does it take to get a response? Mine launched on the 20/10, have not got a assignee yet.

Based on others who got Turbo-ed, this is the base price.
15 working days as per MCMC's officer. You can call MCMC hotline or WhatsApp to ask them to expedite.

Thanks. At least I know what to expect. smile.gif

I think because TM has too many complaints lately and they cannot cope with the volume. Hence, the delay. laugh.gif

I have no doubt you are spot on regarding the slow response. I won't be holding my breath. 2 Accounts that need attention - both overpaying for services rendered. This non uniform charges are a pain.

RRP for AC86U is usually between RM1.5K to RM2K, and RRP for AC5300 is RM2K to RM2.5K.
*
AC86U is less then 1K in Singapore and for that matter most of these products are more reasonably priced there. smile.gif

I also take some initiative to do some price search from taobao, and to my surprise AC86U average price is around RMB900 ONLY~~~

So WTH is Asus router selling here so much more expensive compare to other country...?

And since experts here saying that Asus is using international firmware, now I'm begin to think twice whether to get a local set or imported set~
*
I bought my AC88U in Singapore quite some time back and if was far cheaper there. So much so, I was a little shocked. There were no issues using it here at all and the setup was easy even for a non technical guy like me. thumbup.gif

I saw AC5300 in Taobao after conversion is RM 900 shipped to doorstep.

SG prices are about the same if you have anybody to get it for you there.

How many years of warranty provided by Asus SG?
*
I can’t remember but for me since I have family there warranty isn’t a major concern for me.

The price you mentioned, is it warranty by Asus SG or grey imported units from China as well?
*
Price is MYR SG units so warranty is local SG warranty. I remember there was a big sticker on the box about the warranty. Do a search online for price list from for example Cybermind etc and you will get a good idea what the pricing are. smile.gif

I never thought so much at the beginning, but after heard what blacktubi said about the China sets which has lesser channels, I started to worry about those units that sold in SG.

Not sure why similar hardware, similar firmware, but China sets has lesser channels compare to MY sets~
*
No idea about China models but don’t seem to see any difference between SG and MY units. Regardless just sharing another avenue. An email to ASUS SG could enlighten.

I bought AC88U more than a year ago. Don’t remember price except it was significantly cheaper. Check the current prices on the online price lists of SG vendors.

I did lodge a complaint with MCMC, and someone from TM did call me, but I almost heart attack in the conversion, really can vomit blood. It's just too bad I don't have other better options here, else I would have ditched Unifi long ago. They're playing fire with consumers now, one day when we have real competition I hope they nose-dive and close shop
Your case worst, paying so much but still not Turbo-ed yet. Right choice here, pay half but twice the speed. Honestly 100mbps is enough already, but I still don't mind if we can get 300mbps for RM 139 just like Time customers, but guess we can dream first for now
*
Agree. TM is really pushing their luck. It's quite incredible how there is no uniform packages and charges. Real laughing stock of a situation.

Yeah I know, but the main thing I dislike about time is they need to pull in the cable into your apartment, not very nice aesthetically, even if you do trunking

Guys, need some opinion for these 2 router. Asus RT-AC86U and GT-AC5300.

Since my unifi is being turbo, I'm thinking of getting a new router to maximize the speed of it.

My usage aren't that great at the moment as I don't play games, no torrent. Just using my unifi with light stuffs like fb, youtube, video streaming, iptv and so on. The only thing is that there are roughly 10-15 devices will be connected to the router. And I hope  my next router wifi coverage will be able to cover as much area as possible for my house.

RT-AC86U : RM600+-, Dual Core 1.8GHz, 256MB Flash, 512MB RAM, Dual Band, 4 LAN Port

GT-AC5300 : RM1400+-, Quad Cord 1.8GHz, 256MB Flash, 1024MB RAM, Tri Band, 8 LAN Port

For extra RM800 for better process, more ram, extra 1 5GHz, extra 4 ports, I'm also interested to know the wifi coverage for both of these model, which one has better wifi coverage, and roughly by how many %?
*
Coverage depends on your physical house. Too many variables. No matter what they say, it will still be a try and find out when u eventually get the router. There are no right answers. Also, at least for me, the extra 4 ports come into good use.

I always have the impression that the higher the AC rating, the more antenna a router have, usually will have wider wifi coverage. Indeed 8 ports do seems like more future proof, even though my current C1200, I only use 2 out of 4 ports. 1 for router, another 1 for my tvbox. Later on might be getting a used STB since my unifi comes with the Ultimate pack.

Hopefully someone who is using the GT-AC5300 can give some brief user experience as I read some online review, some say it is buggy...
*
Yes antennas but blockage, where u locate it etc will always play a big part regardless. There really isn't a set answer.
