After reading up on it and checking the dimensions, the router is not gonna fit my shelf cause without antenna is already 6” height and my shelf can only fit router 7” height. 😅 So need to find a router with more conventional shape. Or should i use it without antenna? Unfortunately can’t really place it anywhere else...

So i should get the Asus AC68 instead? Any other model worth considering since the AC68 sounds like it’s already a few years old or it’s still a good router at this stage?

Hi, since your budget is below RM 1K.

You may get D-Link AC5300 Router.

If you don't mind the speed. Then can get deco M5.
M9 Plus need to top up.

Thanks.

i dont really look into the placement of router until i did change the location and i get double the speed at my 2nd storey which i can reach 500mbps at 2nd storey now. and thank God it saves my dilemma and money to get a mesh for my 2nd storey.

Hi guys, I'm looking for a good WiFi/Cable router for a 2 story shop house, router will be placed on the 2nd floor and since it's a pretty old building there's a lot of steel in the wall which might affect the signal so I need something that gives a strong WiFi signal, there'll be around 15-20 devices connecting to the WiFi including pc, laptops, handphones, consoles and security cameras and might go up to 30 devices when friends and relatives are here during festive seasons. I was looking at the Asus RT-AC86U but am open to other suggestions, budget is around 1k. Thanks smile.gif notworthy.gif

Try mesh wifi. Alternatively, you can get the Asus-RT AC86U, but get the mesh wifi and set them up as wireless AP. Your shop house sounds big, so you will probably need mesh wifi. I recommend the Deco M5 or M9.

Thanks for the info smile.gif would you recommend getting the Asus AC86U and also mesh WiFi for better signal? I'm currently using the Dlink DIR-842 from Unifi, hope it will be a huge jump from that DIR-842 to the AC86U

The AC86U is around 30cm tall.
The AC68U is the same height as AC86U.

I think TP-Link C2300 is fine but the AC86U is just really good.

I wouldn’t recommend the D-Link DIR-895L at this point, the firmware is hardly updated and very buggy.

If you decided to get the AC86U then there’s no point getting the Deco since ASUS routers support AiMesh. You can simply buy another AiMesh router to make it a mesh WiFi.

The AC86U is definitely faster but the M9 will give you bigger coverage.

Yes, and the coverage will be much improved if you change from DIR-842 to Asus RT-AC86U.

Hey Guys! Quick question, if I buy 2x AC68U as 1 primary and another as a node using AiMesh, Can my HyppTv be connected via the secondary node and not the primary router?

Ended up getting the Asus AC86U since ALL IT had it for RM999 but had to put it next to my TV instead of in the cabinet. Speeds are 3x faster than my old router and coverage is much better compared to my old router. I'm also quite impressed with the band steering/smart connect so now i don't have to manually select 2.4ghz/5ghz and the router will automatically select the best one since you can choose to only have 1 wifi network instead of separate 2.4ghz/5ghz.

Do older routers like the Asus AC68U have (reliable) band steering as well? Thinking of getting 2 for my parents house so can do the AI Mesh thing.

I am a wifi noob. Anyone did any comparison between TP Link C58HP vs WR841HP vs RT-N12HP? I have been searching for days and found nothing. Anyone with good advice? In terms of stability and distance.
Previously with WR-841HP for 3 years, no issues at all. But lately, router went haywired. Low speed and keep disconnecting.
No issues on the ISP side.
Contacted TP Link and they recommended me with C58HP. However, I read alot about Asus being a better router. Not sure about the model I specified, RT-N12HP.

Thank you ya... Don't scold scold ya...

Hello all!
Read through the thread, so kinda shortlisted 2 routers:
AC86U - cos faster usb transfer?
and
Blue Cave - cos newer and looks good
My usage is more to:
1. 1desktop
2. 2 laptops
3. 3hp, 1 tab
4. 30+ smart home stuff (10 yeelights, rest is Xiaomi switches and sensors)
5. Xiaomi cameras 5 units
6. Smart TV, wireless sound bar
7. 3 Panasonic Aircon with WiFi control
Using unifi 500mbps currently. No gaming, only YouTube, perhaps Netflix in the near future. Need to plug in a HDD to the modem for this?
Any thoughts which to use? House single storey, long and narrow. So far the given unifi modem no issue reaching the furthest Aircon and sensors.

ASUS RT-AC86U will be the better choice. Better wireless performance.
