Hi, i just bought tp link c2300. Need advice on below:

1. Smart Connect
- i turn on smart connect but 2 of my phone samsung s7 and note 5 auto connect @ 2.4ghz instead of 5g most of the time. Ipad is auto connect @ 5ghz.
Any idea why it does not connect @ 5ghz, all in same room with 1 wall.

2. I place the router in middle 1st floor, i notice that coverage in ground floor signal for 5ghz is not good, < 50mb. Is it normal 5ghz not good to cover 2 storey for different floor? (2.4ghz coverage is good even in ground floor.

Thanks
*
How smart connect work? I'm using DIR-882, when i enable my smart connect. my phone will took more than 15 seconds to connect to WiFi, can see that the phone connect, and disconnect few times before connect to the WiFi.

Most likely it is connecting to 2.4GHz as 2.4GHz has stronger signal, so it just select it.

I suggest clicking link on my signature and read the green text to educate yourself, or read 1st page of this thread.

Smart connect works by making your device auto select the best band, either 2.4GHz or 5GHz. Your phone is probably trying to connect to the best band. If you don't find it working well, disable it and select to change manually.

Which kind of Maxis installation you have?

If you are referring to the older one with Thomson router, you will still need to maintain the Thomson router for VOIP service.

This is a single band wireless router and Wireless N can only deliver 100Mbps normally.

Hi guys,

Need expertise's input. I'm currently on unifi 100mbps with stock router DIR 842.
My issue is i'm having a weak signal in my master bedroom where I do my gaming (ps4).

Signal is better if i put the router slightly in the middle of the aisle towards my room but kind of an eyesore. Should i go for a better router or powerline would help in my case? Any brand to recommend with budget <rm400

Thanks!

Is your home single storey or double storey? Where's your current router's location?

Get a better router. Don't bother with powerline. Your budget is quite low but try the Tenda AC18 or TP-Link Archer C6.

I have a question, and I am not sure if this has been discussed on this thread or others.

I have TIME Fibre as my ISP with 500Mbps subscription, WiFi router is the TP-Link Archer C1200 that came with the plan. The TP Link website sure says 5GHz: Up to 867Mbps Signal Rate. Tested the connection and it resulted with around 340+ Mbps D/L and U/L using Ookla thru my iPhone 7+ connected wirelessly to the router thru 5G, with both devices sitting within 5 feet apart.

Why is it that my speedtest result so far from 500Mbps,? TIA

The claimed 867Mbps is the theoretical link rate. After conversion the max is around 500Mbps.

And WiFi is subjected to interference so that explain why.

Thanks for your reply bro. What would be the ideal budget then? Honestly, don't mind to spend a bit but I'm afraid that it wont solve the issue. Will I be able to put the new router in the living room and have a stable 5ghz signal in my master bed? My house is just a 1000sqft condo. Appreciate your comment

You will have to get the C2300 or the C3150 v2 just to be sure. Best would be to have a wired AP in between.
