parking.

Gonna change plan to 100mps once my current unifi 30mbps contract finishes.

Hopefully i dont have to spend much to fully utilise the 100mbps

The current equipment provided by Time will serve the 100mbps pkg just fine.

Came from 30mbps as well last year.

I have a question, and I am not sure if this has been discussed on this thread or others.

I have TIME Fibre as my ISP with 500Mbps subscription, WiFi router is the TP-Link Archer C1200 that came with the plan. The TP Link website sure says 5GHz: Up to 867Mbps Signal Rate. Tested the connection and it resulted with around 340+ Mbps D/L and U/L using Ookla thru my iPhone 7+ connected wirelessly to the router thru 5G, with both devices sitting within 5 feet apart.

Why is it that my speedtest result so far from 500Mbps,? TIA

Is it good to restart a router even after the uptime has been quite long? I didn't feel any degradation of service/performance but just having a thought. Uptime as of today is 143 days. AC86U.

Anyone upgraded from AC86U to AX86U?

Does the 5 Ghz performance difference is significant in real life usage based on your experience?

Yes if you have WiFi 6 devices

I experience a 50%-80% improvement in speed throughout the entire coverage area.

At short distance, my iPhone 12 maxed out at 600Mbps with the AC86U. AX86U brings it to 900Mbps. After a few walls, speed improved from 100Mbps to close to 200Mbps.

I guess paying 2x the price worth the difference. biggrin.gif

5 Ghz Wifi signal drops for just 2-3 seconds, very brief and then ok again. Been happening like once in an hour. Is it a sign that router is dying?

No issue on wired connection.

Router is Asus RT-AC86U, about 3 years old.

Any idea what the temperature of the CPU and wifi chips is?

AC86U is famous for overheating (above 100 deg).

2.4 Ghz : 47 degC
5 Ghz : 55 degC
CPU : 60 degC

Running on Merlin firmware and I even put the twin fan kit on it, 1 week after I bought the router.
Been working great though. Months of uptime without disconnection, both LAN & wifi. Only last week I notice the intermittent connection on wifi, LAN is still good.

Looking for anyone who had experience to RMA their Asus Wireless Router (local Malaysia warranty, within warranty period) to Asus Service Centre but with Merlin firmware. Any issues?

No issue overseas but not sure in Malaysia.

Just take the extra 5 minutes to flash it back to ASUSWRT and prevent your warranty from being rejected.

If it is bricked then hope that ASUS doesn’t notice it.

The router can't be power up at all. Only port 4 LED lit up (but very dim) when I switch the router on. All other LEDs remained off.

I send it for RMA on 25th and today they called and informed me that they are sending a replacement.

Not sure whether it's new unit or refurbished. Forgot to ask.

ASUS RT-AX86U - RM899

Which router deal would you guys get? IS it worth the extra Rm120?

If Malaysia set. This is very cheap. I just spent 13xx for this last Nov.
