Hello,

The condo i stay is 950sqft, typical 3 rooms 2 baths type.

Router placed at living room, next to TV

Already replaced the default router to XiaoMi AX-3600, performance was quite bad, master bedroom and 2nd bed room can't get signal at all when the door is shut.

I had Asus AC-86U in another double storey house, this router is amazing, router is amazing and full bar even for upstairs room even with door fully closed.

Is there any cheaper modem on par or even better than AC-86U?

Thanks.

If I've got a budget above RM300 I'll not settle for anything less than an Asus.

It's the only known consumer router which supports OpenVPN client(not server) out there.

For budget below RM200 you have the suggestion list right up there^

I tried to look at the successor AX-86U, but very pricey

Thanks.

Not into D-link and Tenda brand as of now.
Nevertheless, I had watched the Tenda video and it is interesting, but will reserve for future.
For the remaining two, we've got the answer. smile.gif
Many thanks for the recommendation.

The Mercusys MR70X has been suspected by many reviewers to be actually a rebadged TP-Link AX10 fitted inside a different shell.

Quoted from the site:

However, from our testing, we suspect it to be similar to that of TP-Link Archer AX10 - triple-core processor, 256 MB of RAM, and 16 MB of storage space for the firmware.

Few people know that TP-Link owns the Mercusys brand. One technical proof of this is the quick setup wizard on the Mercusys MR70X: it is the same as on the TP-Link Archer AX models that we tested. It only uses a different color (red instead of cyan).

Both the TP-Link AX10 and Mercusys MR70X has identical CPUs: Broadcom BCM6750 tri core CPU, and RAM/ROM capacity.

Even their web configuration pages looks identical except for different logos and coloring.

Cheaper by RM20 also. thumbsup.gif

Now the next question is what is the identical lost twin of the TP-Link AX20? brows.gif
Stay tuned!

There's so many wrong information here doh.gif

The Mercusys MR70X is based on Mediatek. How I know it? I took it apart and inspect the PCB when doing my review.

I will recommend the MR70X than AX10 due to 2.4Ghz being significantly faster.

MR70X is way affordable compared to the AX10.
For the AX10 vs AX20 price, AX20 is just a few ringgits away.

Any plan to review the Tenda TX3? tongue.gif
Or the review will only take place for certain brands?

Had one but I am getting busier these days. Maybe I will do it one day.

TX3 is fine but I am not a fan of Tenda firmware. It's clunky and messy.

AX20 is faster and more stable with the high performance FEM (SKY85743).

Are you sure you looked correctly at the right CPU?

There's the main CPU and the radio controller.

Here's the internals of the Tenda TX3 and the TP-Link AX20 routers:

Tenda TX3:

TP-Link AX20:

Overall the Tenda TX3's PCB board has been shrunk and square in shape similar to Asus boards.
It uses a higher quality Taiwan based Winbond(used in G.Skill) memory vs TP-Link's SEC(Samsung).

The Tenda TX3 also spots a much larger heatsink with fins on its main CPU.

Let me know if you found anything with a Broadcom label on the Mercusys MR70X. wink.gif

What is the model of the Mediatek chip used in the Mercusys MR70X again?
Memory chip brand?

Some pictures will help if you managed to take them after taking it apart.

Identical a not the TX3 and AX20? laugh.gif

The Tenda lacks only 1 less GE port and a USB port for file sharing server but costs almost RM50 cheaper.
Better quality components though with the memory chipset from Winbond and bigger size CPU heastsink.

I'm surprised that Asus RT-AX55 uses a cheaper branded memory unit from Fudan Micro instead.
It also shares the same Broadcom BCM6755 CPU like the previous 2 but with a Realtek RTL8376 controller inside.

Why are you comparing the brand of the flash memory used on the Tenda TX3 to the brand of the RAM used on the TP-Link AX20?

At least compare the same component, they are two vastly different thing. doh.gif

Even if you are comparing the same component, you should look at the specifications rather than the brand itself.

It uses MT7621DAT and I don't keep pictures. I don't care about memory chip brand to document them as well.

What's more important in a wireless router is the radio and the RF components. (PA, LNA or integrated into a FEM)

Hi all, been reading through the threads, Generally people find ASUS router has better quality and more stable, while TPlink is cheaper.

I am in a dilemma, if my budget is rm500 I can consider something like Asus RT-AX56u or TPlink AX73. Spec wise the Ax73 seems miles ahead of the RT-AX56U, can can anyone advise which should i get?

TP-Link AX73 will be your best choice.
If you don't mind spending more, then you can get TP-Link AX90 or ASUS RT-AX3000.
Most people said ASUS is good because their firmware got update even for older models.
If tight budget then TP-Link. I am using TP-Link as well, Archer C9.
Might get ASUS in the future once my old one start to behave funny.

Here's more of the internals and breakdowns for the Asus RT-AX55 and TP-Link AX73

Asus RT-AX55
user posted image

TP-Link AX73
user posted image

I find the value is less for the TP-Link AX73. Despite for its price which is on the higher side, it only has a tri-core BCM6750A CPU which is used also in the lower end TP-Link AX10 router.

The Asus RT-AX55 which costs as high as RM350 shares the same CPU as in the Tenda TX3 and the TP-Link AX20.
