And maybe what might be the most anticipated update to the MacBook Pro—in light of class-action lawsuits and a new Apple repair program—Apple is introducing the third generation of its butterfly keyboard. The keyboard, with its low profile and short key travel, has been improved so that it is quieter than before. Whether the keyboard is more reliable and durable remains to be seen, and we’ll definitely make note of the keyboard experience in our upcoming review.

i'm aiming 13' non-touch bar version but unfortunately processor upgrade doesnt apply to this model.
13' touch bar version start with 7500, with only 4 core and 8gig ram(2133)

if i upgrade the ram to 16gig + i7 cpu, the price is RM9500, compare to 15'+i7+16+radeon whic only RM9800
why apple? i dun want 15' le

The 15" more value compared to the 13"
But many go for 13" because of the form factor and size. Fits in bag nicely. So Apple know how to play the emotion and get more profits per 13" sold.

yup. 13" always get lower spec. CP value is already lower than 15".

too bad form factor is my priority, so no choice must stick to 13". sad.gif

yup, 13" is more expensive. if form factor is not the consideration, go for 15" more worth it. in fact, 15" screen is really nicer for work etc.

So I configure the Mac I wanted and it's RM 14k+

15" i9
32GB RAM
SSD I put 256GB since I store files in the cloud these days

Shipping around 4-6 weeks. Really wanted to bite the bullet but a bit worried on the keyboard reports.

I believe it depends on what you do, if you are into heavy content creation or productivity, 6 core is best

Me personally the 4 core is good enough just for normal workload and casual use

Having 6 core is too much for me

Yes but from your linked post, it doesn't say it solves the dust and debris issue(dust easily getting into keyboard holes and making them faulty).

That's what the MBP 2017 users are complaning about,

but once i once configure 13' to 16GB ram, the price go up to ~8.3k,
vs 9.9k for 15' version

the price diff 1.5k will get

i5 vs i7
16gb 2133 ddr3 vs 16GB 2400 ddr4
13inch vs 15 inch
intel GPU vs Ati Radion GPU

worth it?

SGD2980 with free Beats Solo3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones (worth SGD398).

I sold the free beats solo3 wireless on-ear headphones at SGD200. So my net spent on my macbook pro 2017 13-inch touchbar 512GB 16GB RAM is SGD2780.

unlikely they will. since MBP no price changed, i dun think they will lower down the price for the base MBP without touchbar.

and seriously i dun see that apple will really release something that is lower in price.

wait for review from youtubers which it will come soon. but i am sure apple should have fixed it. apple has new recall programme to fix the 2016/2017 affected macbook pro.

given the apple's style, i dun see that they will ignore this problem while they are coming out new gen of keyboard and again need to recall problematic products again especially for known problems. likely that they have fixed it.

if need 16GB ram, i think directly go for 15inch better since it has it default.

if u are not really running VM, actually 8GB is good enough. but of course if budget is not a concern, good to have more RAM for future proof.

personally, if i can choose again, i may upgrade my 2017 MBP 13 TB from i5 to i7 instead of upgrading to 16GB ram. tongue.gif

Ever since I got my iPad, I really enjoyed typing on the on-screen keyboard - no mechanical parts, no sharp keyboard sound, and no need to worry about keyboard issues plaguing the current MBP.

I really hope they would redesigned the MBP with a full-fledged on-screen keyboard instead of the half-baked TouchBar. Maybe 2020 perhaps...?

why? do u think cpu i5>i7 is more importain than 8gb>16gb

currently i'm using 4gb MBA, i dun have much complain about cpu speed, but when i open a few more program, i can feel the bottle neck for my mb are the 4GB memory, so my next purchase must want to have a lot of RAM.

You'll notice a huge improve going from 4gb to 8gb rather than 8gb to 16gb.

Nowadays, the sweet spot for ram is 8gb. Like he said, 16gb is of course better for future proof.

I will think that i7 can make more difference for me.

4GB ram is known to be below minimum requirement. no matter what system. one will feel slow and not enough. 8GB is the minimum.

Yes but from your linked post, it doesn't say it solves the dust and debris issue(dust easily getting into keyboard holes and making them faulty).

That's what the MBP 2017 users are complaning about,

i too found most of the sources saying that 3rd gen butterfly keyboard is only quieter dint actually fix the issue but until i saw this from ifixit, most of them judging too quickly without going deeper as usual

the new design should protect against debris but if dust somehow ever gets inside, even more harder to take out

This is for the “2017 or 2018” part of ur qns.

2018 obviously it depends on if the same issues are faced by 2018 users. I dun see that Apple will announce a repair program immediately on their newly refresh products.

But my point is that I do not see that after Apple launch the repair program again they expect to continue service the same old keyboard multiple times for the same machine. If the replacement program is not going to fix the problem, they will lose a lot of time and money for the continuous replacements even for the newly refresh 2018 MBP.

I would think that why apple does not explicitly address this keyboard issue even in the 3rd gen now. It could be due to the fact that this only affects small percentage of their users thus they do not feel it is crucial to fix it. Else, I could not understand why Apple does not fix it which they are definitely capable in doing so.

From what I know is they are under lawsuit and can't suddenly just come out with a new product and say they fixed the issue. It's disappointing to see they marketed a flaw product, yet claim it to be the best given at that price point

u can send for check up la, but if no issue after examined by them of course no replacement, as mentioned only small percentage of keyboard affected

also if the keyboard prob not that serious, they will use fix the particular keypad, fair enough

It is bad indeed. However, given that one is in Apple ecosystem, at least you can be assured that Apple will address problems even after warranty. I think this is more important. There were existing cases that Apple is even Replacing a more than 5 years old MacBook Pro with the latest model for free.

I can foresee it takes min one more year of release of updated MacBook Pro. MacBook Pro sales figure is Super pathetic comparing to iphone. I dun think Apple will refresh the design so soon. It is not their style of direction for MacBook lineup.

that's true however we only have Apple Resellers in Malaysia where there are times they try to push away their responsibility (in the case of iPhone users). If only we can have Apple store itself here, story might be different. Although there are resellers that fully provide after sales services that are equal to Apple but I've never come across one, only heard it from other users

I think you misunderstood me...

I'm not referring to the real touchscreen display where SJ says your hands' gonna fall off after use...

I'm referring to the touch screen input where the current touch bar and keyboard area is... SJ said touch surfaces want to be HORIZONTAL... the TouchBar and the keyboard surface area is where touch screen keyboard comes into perfection - no longer have to worry about dust going into keyboard gaps or spoiled keys, no longer have to worry about how loud you type...

Have you ever watch Star Trek...?

touch screen keyboard only good for those who type with needed look at the key, for those who type without looking and solely depend on dot on <F> and <G> will be difficult for them to use as they can't 'feel' the key. Some more hitting on the flat surface while typing gonna hurt ur finger more.

totally not worth it. the increase in speed is significant for 2018.

2015
if you are talking about 13-inch retina macbook pro, it is using broadwell (5th gen) processor. For 15-inch it is using Haswell (4th gen) processor.

2018
It is using Coffeelake (8th gen) processor. The extra to pay for a macbook pro on this will definitely be worthwhile.
not to mention other hardware changes such as the SSD (a lot faster read/write speed), display (slimmer bezels and true tone), speaker (a lot better), touchpad (bigger), graphic (a lot better, even for integrated one on 13-inch, dedicated one is also a lot better for 15-inch) and many many many more.

no... processor upgrade each generation definitely is biggest upgrade of macbook pro...

if you no need the processing power... the efficiency and battery life , techonology alone is worth everything than the processing power...

unless is RM5k or below... then u can consider it la... no no for rm 8k...

not to mention other hardware changes such as the SSD (a lot faster read/write speed), display (slimmer bezels and true tone), speaker (a lot better), touchpad (bigger), graphic (a lot better, even for integrated one on 13-inch, dedicated one is also a lot better for 15-inch) and many many many more.

8th gen intel coffee lake is so much better now with additional cores.

So yeah, its better to get the lastest gen for future proof

no... processor upgrade each generation definitely is biggest upgrade of macbook pro...

if you no need the processing power... the efficiency and battery life , techonology alone is worth everything than the processing power...

unless is RM5k or below... then u can consider it la... no no for rm 8k...

That gain though

thermal throttling is a known issue for high power CPU.

this is the reason why laptop always have poorer processing power CPU compare to desktop counterpart.

so the difference in real life for i5 vs i7 vs i9. are not significant. the extra processing power for i7 or i9 can only last for shorter period of time, something like a spike. so it depends on what kind of things one do. if it is rendering video, it is not really helpful.

the thing is if it can't even maintain base clock, that's really junk. might as well get the cheaper CPU version.

It is known issue. Seriously speaking, it is not Apple’s problem. Chips are by intel. From the fact that other brands also avoid throttling on their laptops, it is not something that Apple can create miracles.

The higher the processing power, the heat is meant to be high and laptops are known to have poorer cooling mechanism than desktop. So it is unavoidable.

This is the reason why those youtubers hardly recommend cpu upgrade becos no signficant differences.

Wow I was looking to sell my 2017 15” but not after watching all these video. Might wait until the next refresh, no point upgrade it but performance throttle until this extent.

Seems like coffeelake not ready for such thin laptop like MBP.

You can't say its not apple's problem. Apple is a big company and outstanding engineering development, they should at least try to solve or minimize the thermal problem.

There are laptops with high-end specs without an thermal issues albeit there are much much thicker.

Apple should at least maybe try to sacrifice the thickness or add in higher clock fan speeds. Or better don't put in an i9 on a such thin laptop.

Laptop nowadays are either Ultrabook or power beast like gaming one that are bulky and heavy which allows more fan or more room for heat exhaustion.

no matter i5, i7 or i9 the intel chips that are used by apple MacBook Pro are meant for Ultrabook, they are not even those gaming equipvalent.

so this is a prob that not only faced by apple but ANU Ultrabook in the market too.

Unless intel can really come out a heat efficient chip for this range of products, else the problem will stay the same.

Apple can solve this prob unless they use their own chips.

Am wondering whether should I go for 2017 MBP with upgrade or 2018 MBP? Would mainly use for heavy photo editting.

Comparing btw 2017 MBP 13' (upgrade processor to 2.5ghz dual core and 16gb ram) and 2018 MBP 13' (either to upgrade processor or ram).

Would anyone able to advise which one is better choice? Budget around RM8000-RM8500 (educational price)

if u are buying 13-inch, i think 2018 is a no brainer. it is not only for the single-core or multi-core speed only matter, but the no cores (quard-core) will make a difference.

basically for 2018 13-inch,

u get:
1) better CPU
2) better screen (True Tone)
3) 2 x extra full speed thunderbot 3 ports
4) better graphic card
5) Apple T2 Chip
6) better keyboard (quieter)

yes, you cannot do any upgrade ram or cpu later at all. SSD is possible but will be too troublesome to do and not easy to do. the cost of buying new SSD with bigger capacity that can be used for macbook pro will be super expensive, and it will cost you more than you pay now for the right size of SSD. importantly, the bigger capacity SSD macbook may look expensive, but in real, those third party of external SSD in terms of performance (read/write speed) are totally sky and earth. 512GB is a minmum even for normal users. dun waste time on 256GB or below.

if you are serious video editing user, the insance write/read speed will make a big difference when you work on the project within the 'working space' instead of external storage etc.

16GB is good if you are heavy user again such as video editing, running VMs etc. else 8GB is more than sufficient even for gaming.

upgrading of CPU is totally not a must, even i5 can do well for normal tasks not to mention it is quard-core, for application that can tap on the benefits of multi-core, it will be good. but of course if you have real need of i7 and money is not an issue, by all means you should go for it.

In the event that you need more RAM and CPU, you should just go for 15-inch, it will save the trouble to even think of upgrading processor or RAM, since it is already i7 6-cores and 16GB, more than sufficient for most people.

I would upgrade the CPU more than the RAM, 16GB ram is still plenty when I open heavy photoshop + illustrator files. 8GB is different story.

Again, ask yourself how long you gonna be using the laptop. More than 5 year definitely get the 32GB upgrade.

16gb is more than sufficient.

In fact 8gb is more than sufficient too for most users. unless u really run VMs. Nowadays OS is more than smart enough to better utilize the RAM, even u run a lot of apps at the same time and there is really not enough RAM, it will just swap out the apps more frequently but in most cases it does not affect user experience at all. I have seen many reviewers test out the 8GB ram vs 16GB RAM for gaming and video editing, it does not make significant difference. I upgraded my MacBook Pro to 16GB for future proof becos I assume I can use it for at least 5 years or so. But until now my usage for my 16GB is around 5GB+- most of the time. I think it is only possible to use more than that when I run VMs with you can dedicate amount of ram to each VM. But again even running VMs, the CPU will be a bottleneck to limit the no of VMs you can run too.

for myself, i actually regret to spend the $ to upgrade 8GB based on my actual usage now which the $ can be go to the next macbook purchase or the $ can be used on upgrading to i7 instead.
if i am to buy my macbook pro again, i will go for 512GB, 8GB RAM, i5 (stock model).
if i am to customized (such as i7, 16GB etc.) -> i will go for 15-inch instead. because these upgrade makes the price very closer to buying 15-inch which is more worth it (bigger screen, bigger trackpad, dedicated graphic card, ready i7 with more cores and 16GB RAM)
particularly if you are buying 2018 model, it is same price as 2017 but you get quard-core i5 which it should be better than before for 13-inch plus full speed 4 x thunderbot 3 port.

32gb ram is a Super overkilled for most users, i think most ppl will just simply overspend for this unless one has concrete reason why it is needed.

4GB-> 8GB - super signfiicant in performance difference
8GB -> 16GB - not significant unless you run VMs that need more RAM for each VM
16 -> 32GB - very unlikely to be significant unless you are reason to have it.

i think nowdays the software is lacking behind of hardware unless 10, 15 years ago. many software are not even tap well on mult-threading capability of CPU yet.

For photo, I'd just go with 256gb and archive the photos on an external RAID instead. After shooting, import to the macbook, edit, and when you're done, transfer all to external.

but of course, if you already have an external RAID setup then might as well go for 512gb lah hehe

unfortunately i do not have RAID yet just few external HDD and SSD since I haven't been settling down in a same city for the past few years. Think I'd be going for the 512GB since my current MBP I have almost utilize both my HD and SSD.

I think this video is very misinformed. Nobody is complaining that i9 is slower than the i7.

People are complaining that the i9 will throttle and perform under it's advertised base clock (2.9 GHz).

I would've picked silver also... Looks much nicer than space gray, looks odd and unpolished...

Wish Apple would've come up with silver iDevices with black bezel on it...

easy, MAC can read NTFS formatted hard-drive natively so u can easily copy files to ur MAC. But MAC does not write on NTFS natively but can be done thru third party apps such as those paid one.

Alternatively, if ur hard-disk is formatted with exfat. MAC can read write no issues.

Buy the latest 8th gen, the extra core count is much better.

If you have the budjet, also try add in more ram (16gb), since you're using it for adobe and ps.

This would future proof your laptop much longer.

Hi, I ordered a 13" inch touch bar model with 512GB and maxed out RAM on the 18/7 and the website stated that the delivery date will be around 20/8 - 4/9.
Until now, my order status is still Order In Progress and there's no update since then.
Hopefully it'll arrive earlier because I really need it and I'm impatiently waiting for it to come too. sad.gif

Hope it helps to those who are wondering!

about to order same spec as well, but i do really hope the non-touch bar version as its kinda strange debug pressing F11/F10 on flat surface instead of physical button.

exact same spec with you on the 23rd and same, still order in progress. delivery date same duration as well

Update: I've been checking my order status every single day and to my surprise, it is now Preparing For Shipment!! rclxm9.gif
But the delivery date remains unchanged though..

QUOTE(ychwang @ Jul 30 2018, 05:55 PM)
about to order same spec as well, but i do really hope the non-touch bar version as its kinda strange debug pressing F11/F10 on flat surface instead of physical button.
*
Yeah I was initially aiming for the non touch bar version but ended up waiting for this year's updates and yeah, no updates for the non touch bar model. Hence, opting for the touch bar model instead for the upgrades.

I can certain you that you will regret the purchase.
you can save the $$ by going for the low storage option, but it will be the bottleneck for your entire MacBook Pro to be even 'usable'.

no matter how budget, one must go for minimum 256gb. (super super bare minimum requirements that require external storage most of the time). if really cannot go for 256gb, maybe you need to reconsider other options.

(do note that to me, minimum should be 512gb even for future proof even you are a normal user, one will need adequate amount of 'working' disk space for most tasks to be usable. the working disk space I am referring here is the disk space available solely on your macbook pro and not external storage)

remember "buy cheap and pay twice".

any major electronic mega store will have instalment plans option available.
bolehland some of them may charge additional fee if you are going for instalment.

lion city apple online store has 0% instalments for 12 months on purchases over $500 using a DBS/POSB, OCBC or Citi card.

Attached Image

for brick and mortar stores, most mega stores will have the similar 0% instalments for 12 months/24 months using major lion city issued credit cards.

if u are budget constraint. you should focus on storage first and it will make for impact. 256gb or 512gb (recommended) stock models should be good for u.

16gb is not a must but it is good to have for future proof.
but light users who do not run VMs 8gb is more than enough. even for pc gaming does not need 8gb ram.

I’m so sorry to hear that. But I think you’re right.
Because another person called to update me on my parcel and told me that they will deliver tomorrow instead.
I was then confused and told her that her colleague told me that it can be delivered by today.

Long story short, it will still be delivered today because of the arrangement made when I called earlier.
I got a feeling our laptops came together with other orders and also the in-store stocks. That’s why it’s taking some time to sort things out.

I am using the Anker 7-in-1 bought from Amazon. Pretty good build quality as expected from Anker. Not too sure how would the performance be like tho. But in term of price, it'd say it's quite a good bargain considering that it would cost me around RM300-400 to get one here locally with the similar function.

Thanks for the suggestion! That sounds like a good price based on my surveys so far. Will consider this.

For now I'm thinking of just getting a single port adapter from Anker until I confirm the most suitable hub... but this looks like a good find. How long have you been using it?

What does it mean? U mean the 2018 MBP does not have separate cable and charging brick but all-in-one like 2015 rMBP?

Hi guys, first time Macbook pro user, I ordered through apple's website and currently is still in Subang for clearance process.
Anyway, I would like to know if there any custom tax when I receive it tomorrow?

Same for the new mbp. I thought they would still have some kind of that feature so we can still keep it neat when we do not need to utilize the full length of the cable.

Just heard from Switch Malaysia that they currently already have stock of the new MacBook Pro 2018. Shall expect within the next two days to hear from all the Apple authorized resellers in Malaysia to start selling the new Macbook Pro.

I was considering this factor. In the previous SST regime, computer related stuffs were exempted from being taxed. Unfortunately, though, I couldn't find any references to similar exemptions in the recent articles on the upcoming SST regime (though there has been calls for the gov. to similarly exempt computer related stuffs this time around too). I guess we'll only know once the full system is announced.

The only reason why I chose to replace my old MBP despite my old MBP is still working well. Considering the age of it I am worried that it would suddenly become brick and so the change.

Should be ok given Apple's product quality. Many have used the macbook for more than 5 years.

I may consider to upgrade during the next major redesign on hardware though haha.

Yea, it still work fine now other than the battery lasting for less than 20 minutes. Using it like a desktop now. Considering such a heavy usage for the past 7-8 years it's still running strong. I actually did a test yesterday comparing to my new MBP. Startup and shutdown time, diff is just few seconds. But of course I have replaced my old MBP with SSD.

depends on individual. if you dun like ur keyboard to have the oil stain over time. it is good to have one to keep the pristine state of it.

of course, the touch and feel will certainly change due to the extra protection.

I am shifted from windows to mac just for my work or task. I can say that it's quite good overall after shifting, now I no longer want to get back to window. It's quite take some time to get used with the shortcuts key. I really love with mbp trackpad big and nice , I can rest my hand with it.

One thing I don't really like is the fan ventilation, if you at place that aircond not really cold enough, you can feel the hots under the keyboard.

Was a Mac user way back when, then used Windows for work for several years. Feels really, really good to be back on a Mac. I've forgotten how smooth everything is on MacOS. Though I'm sure other laptops (on Windows or otherwise) at this price point would be comparably fast as well, the smoothness is not guaranteed.

has Apple really fixed the keyboard problem on Macbook Pro 2018 (3rd gen keyboard)?

i thought of getting the non touch bar version, which uses 2nd gen keyboard that STILL the problem mainly because i think the touch bar is irrelevant.

A lot of ppl thinks that way also, thats why its a pity that Apple din refresh the non touch bar, they din even lower the price. Sad

There's a lot of videos in youtube comparing the 2017 Non Touch and the 2018 Touch to see which one is more worth to get.

Maybe that can help with your decision.

I've been browsing a lot of Mac forums and found out this issue is starting to cough up.
This is the reason why I'm putting on hold the upgrade from rMBP 15 2015.

totally recommend. for laptop, especially you are always on the move, it is easy to knock it here and there, dents and scratches can easily be created anytime. with that, it will make your macbook look ugly and you will certainly feel heart pain.

with a case, it can certainly keep the pristine status of your macbook particularly a macbook can use for many years to go.
in addition, you can use it without worries comparing to using it raw. tongue.gif

it is a certainly worthwhile investment especially you have spent big bucks on the macbook.

Nobody use case if you use the macs professionally tongue.gif

Usually those new to macs or those who use it casually use laptop case, keyboard condoms etc.

yes, a lot of people are using casing and keyboard protector. good case and protector brand does not make the macbook look ugly.

good example will be my favourite brand all-time -> moshi.
good built and design. most importantly, it is still quite light and slim which it does not add on thickness so significantly to the macbook.

Guys, please be cool to "Ch3n_low. I mentioned about buying for my kid because I just purchased the other MBP about month ago. And that delivered without any problem. Every year I will get new MBP pro and sell the old one. I'm slightly fortunate than some other here because I have a brother working with Apple and I have 25% discount on all item from them.

Peace guys.

I brought my 2015 MBP to Switch yesterday to enquire about the Retina display anti reflective coating issue, only to be informed that my MBP had only two more days covered by Apple Care! I’m so lucky to bring it that day. It would have costed me thousands to repair that.
I recommend all MBP users here to purchase Apple Care Protection Plan.

If not mistaken, all 2015 model have the staingate issue so it's free to change even when it's out of warranty cause Apple had issue replacement program.

Guys, my MBP 13 battery percentage doesn't change but when I disable the percentage view and enabling it again, the percentage will then reflect the truth. How to fix?

Also how do you switch between languages for typing? Command + Space?

For mouse usage, I find scrolling webpage very jittery, but the touchpad is fine. PS: the mouse is NOT broken.

I bought the 15" MacBook Pro from an local online shopping website at a price of RM9,840 (silver colour),
that website having a promotion and so selling at lower price that the official Apple websites's RM10,495
strange is that website selling the space gray colour one at RM9,999
and I clicked/selected silver so I paid RM9,840 but they sent me the space gray colour one, so I earned RM159.

I am ok with space gray too, but I miss the bright apple logo the back of the screen.

Space grey is nicer as it is the first time MacBook Pro ever released in darker colour towards black. Silver is just too boring. And the price tags indicate the poplilatity of the colours choice among people too.

There's a lot cheaper place like : (RM9,299) https://www.mudah.my/MacBook+Pro+2018+A1990...io-67957875.htm

Memang like that, people bringing sets from overseas. Warranty still can claim here at Machines etc.

anytime before one year warranty expired.

i never buy it for my macbook pro 2018. becos apple care only covers extra two more years which i am confident that my macbook can sustain till then.
save the expense of applecare for next purchase instead.

Your question already has the answer. Apple’s warranty for Mac is international. I’ve been sending my Macs for repairs anywhere in the world where they have Genius Bars or AASP

Is this the same as the current being offered by Apple on their Apple Store?
https://www.lazada.com.my/products/apple-ma...s275840228.html

I know Apple didn't upgrade the 13-inch without Touch Bar to the latest 8-gen processor but can't be too sure if this is the same one as Apple is selling on their website. Price difference is quite big. RM6790 vs RM5889.

This is refer to https://www.apple.com/my/shop/buy-mac/macbo...ual-core-256gb#
It's using 7th gen processor (without touch bar). the description is misleading. Another word it is A1708 model (check out- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacBook_Pro).

if you search properly, there is another model which is 2018 Model with touchbar.
Lazada apple store always sell cheaper depend on depreciation value.
Apple store - forever it is same price even after a year.
So to get best bargain is to buy from lazada apple store.

So to get best bargain is to buy from lazada apple store.

I know the latest MBP is with 8-gen CPU but that’s with touchbar.
If I’m looking only for the model without touchbar then my only option is with the 7-gen CPU. My question was is the Lazada link I showed earlier the same as the link you shared for RM6790?
If so then I would get the one from Lazada since it’s ~900 cheaper...

Does any know why USA MBP 2018 version selling in Malaysia by local Carouseller is cheaper than Malaysia official version? Take example, 15" 2018 MBP 256gb, USA selling at USD2399 which equivalent to RM10,075 and Malaysia official version is RM10,495. BUT Carouseller selling at RM8200 for USA 15" 2018 256gb version. There is a huge gap. Anyone can advise it is legit and can buy from carouseller? or any idea why carouseller can get such a cheaper USA version ?

I bought the 15" MacBook Pro from an local online shopping website at a price of RM9,840 (silver colour),
that website having a promotion and so selling at lower price that the official Apple websites's RM10,495
strange is that website selling the space gray colour one at RM9,999
and I clicked/selected silver so I paid RM9,840 but they sent me the space gray colour one, so I earned RM159.

I am ok with space gray too, but I miss the bright apple logo the back of the screen.

I got my MBP 13Inch 2018 with AppleCare+ @RM7400 1weeks back (apple website showing 7869 + 895 = RM8764), so it's a discount of RM1.3k.

So far so good, no problem with the device, can check serial and warranty.
Seller claim imported set and source directly from wholesaler that's why cheaper price.

There is my serial number, you can check the warranty. It's definitely valid if you want to send for warranty here.

Honestly, I bought around 6-7 macbooks in my lifetime (I NEED macbooks, work as UI/UX designer and constantly switching macbooks either for personal use or help my workplace to buy for my work use). Only once I bought from the official reseller. The other time I always find cheaper option in Mudah/Lowyat forum. There's a lot seller selling cheaper up to 20-30% than retail price. Mostly are US sets.

But it's up to you guys, I don't want you guys to blame me later. Just sharing my experience. laugh.gif

The 2018 model isnt as bad as the 2017 model - im referring to the keyboard issues. I wouldnt say its completely defect free but its not really an issue considering that Apple has already replaced the problematic keyboards this year. Electronic defects are common, same for all brands , just pray you dont get a lemon unit.

Yes, if there is a prob, Apple would have already fixed it for 2018 MacBook Pro. In fact, i did not hear much prob about 2018 MacBook Pro.

Even 2017 MacBook Pro keyboard only affects small amount of users and not all. I myself I am using my 2017 macbook for close to 1.5 years. I have no prob with it. Apple has set up the repair programme for keyboard problem, nothing to worry if one really encounters problems.

Aftersale suppler is never an issue for apple products. This is the good thing about being an Apple user.

Using it with the nTB late 2016 model. Haven’t had a problem so far. Just bear in mind the usb is just a 1A powered one. Go for the other one if you want a faster USB A. Lower output for the PD though.

Thought I’d chime in. Most issues you read online, while true, happen to a smaller group of people. People tend to complain when something goes wrong, but hardly say anything if the product works as intended. Not to say that having defects like that is fine - the machine isn’t cheap and the QC should reflect accordingly. Apple kinda dropped the ball on this one.

I digress. I’m using the late 2016 model and haven’t had any of the problems that have been reported. It’s over a year now and no issue about keyboard getting stuck or severe over heating. Just don’t use Chrome though. That thing is a battery vampire.

I’m the average user that don’t baby my device, but I don’t exactly use it as plate/chuck it around like a frisbee etc etc. Treat your electronics like it should be and nothing bad should happen.

Just adding from my own observation. Westlife is right. Any major issues and Apple will usually issue a statement like fixing the staingate and the keyboard problem.

I just ordered mbp 2018, saw your comment and now I'm in panic mode.
I think the keyboard is fixed now with the 3rd generation butterfly.
I can update you on other issues once I get the mbp 2 weeks from now.

that one cannot charge macbook coz dont have usb c. got another adapter which have 1 usb c and 2 usb A but that one too heavy and require another cord to plug power. It is suitable to put at home which i dont think need it as at home got original adapter for all devices.

therefore the only option is this light adapter (without power cord)

therefore the only option is this light adapter (without power cord)
*
Indeed, this one will need power brick for MacBook to charge. Ideally at least one USB-c + 2 x USB-A should be good enough.

ok. sweat.gif

Because i havent got a mac, wanna buy one in future, but all my HDDs and thumbdrives currently in NTFS format, if NTFS format can't be write in default, i plan to change all of them to Exfat formats to avoid any issue when i got a mac later.

Well I also the same. Using windows for 20 years. Having the same doubt but mine more toward app and OS compatibity/So what I did was run macOS in VMware to familiar and test compatibity on app. So far so good. Those app that cannot run, I will run windows on VMware fusion.
Therefore don’t have any issue.

Same, mine also arrived on Tuesday.

Pretty awesome quality I must say, should've bought the kickstarter edition, 50% cheaper than the newer version @ $99. The only difference is the second Type C port and USB A transfer speed.

just got my MacBook Pro 15" 512GB at Berjaya Times Square @RM9500. US imported set. I was skeptical at first but the seller didn't mind to let me checking the serial number before purchasing just to see whether it has been activated or not. Luckily I didn't go to Machines. Damn save a lot of moolah

Yes bro. US-imported set though, with the 2-pin US adapter. But since it comes with a standard 1-year international warranty, I'm not that worried considering the price difference to a local set. The seller did let me check the serial number first before buying so why not.

Is anyone having keyboard issue on your 2018 Macbook Pro with 3rd gen keyboard?

I am having several issues:
1. Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly
2. Letters or characters do not appear
3. Key(s) feel "sticky" or do not respond in a consistent manner

The new 2018 Macbook Pro isn't covered under the keyboard replacement program, so I sent it to AASP, hopefully they give free service as its still under warranty.

Will AASP offer a new Macbook if the issue persist?

Will AASP offer a new Macbook if the issue persist? -> No. only replace it

So I will stick in this loop of repairing the device if they cannot fix it? Is there any other way?

Also, can they backup and restore my data of my mac is locked with file vault? I think they will wipe the SSD and my data is gone?

Is anyone having keyboard issue on your 2018 Macbook Pro with 3rd gen keyboard?

I am having several issues:
1. Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly
2. Letters or characters do not appear
3. Key(s) feel "sticky" or do not respond in a consistent manner

The new 2018 Macbook Pro isn't covered under the keyboard replacement program, so I sent it to AASP, hopefully they give free service as its still under warranty.

Will AASP offer a new Macbook if the issue persist?

Sorry to hear that. So indeed, the 3rd gen butterfly keyboard still doesn't fix the problem. How's the overall experience with the laptop?

Since its still under warranty I am not that worried. But once its expired (after 3 years with extended), replacing the keyboard will cost RM2800+-
This is worrying. Since an average person will use their laptop for 5 years?

Any advice?

The best solution i see so far for MBP2018 & MBA2018 is to use an external BLUETOOTH keyboard.
Conlanfirm you wont run any risk of damaging the 3rd gen keyboard in the long run.

And no, i am not trolling.

Disappointed to see even 3rd gen macbook laptop keyboard still have the sticky/stuck problems.

Perhaps i should reconsider getting lenovo thinkpad x1 carbon 6th gen. The keyboard experience on that laptop is awesome.

It's been all over the news, the replacement would cost up to $700 usd. There are youtubers who shared the invoices. That's why there's a lawsuit.

Unfortunately, very true advice on using external keyboard to avoid sticky keys. RM2800 is very expensive to replace the keyboard only

I am using external Bluetooth when at home. Plan to get Apple Care protection before end of 1st year warranty. Then worry free for 1+2 warranty
Frankly speaking, surface parts also expensive. But at least Apple not as troublesome compare to surface.

Because they change the whole top case plus battery. Same case when you want to change battery only. They will still change whole top case due to its design. It’s design flaw, which may be intentionally or not intentionally.

Other than using external keyboards, i’ve seen some people using keyboard cover. some are made of silicon and some are TPU material.

I wonder if this is cheaper alternative to protect the keyboard from having stuck/sticky keys problem?

Any users here got use keyboard cover? Will it damage your screen on the long run?

certainly can. my colleague is also using 2011 MacBook Pro now. He has changed his hdd to ssd so it makes it even more usable now.

only fault u can find for 2011 MacBook Pro is probably the fact that it has no Retina display hahaha.

Hi guys, new 13” quadcore MBP user here😊
Sold off my 2012 15” rMBP for this used one.

Before buying, I braced myself with the fact that the current ones only have USB Cs. I gotta say I’m coping with it.

But the one thing that makes me miss my old machine is actually the Magsafe. Being a clumsy guy and living with a cat, I cant seem to be able to leave the Macbook plugged in without thinking of the worst. Haha.

Hi guys, I need some advice.

I accidentally dropped my new Macbook Pro TB and I'm not sure if it's worth fixing. What do you think? Should I bring it to Apple and get it fixed??
The screen, hardware etc no problem.

But ...
1) The hinge is not aligned;
2) the bottom layer came out, but maybe I can screw it myself;
3) scars, on top of aluminum layer and side.

Would you pay about RM 1500 for this (Applecare + fee)??

yeah... less than 1 month old. sad.gif

I actually had the case on when it fell. I think the side hit the zip, that's why it got scarred. The floor was a flat, smooth surface.

If I go to Apple store, they will change the whole aluminum for me??

btw, did you guys buy the Apple Care?

I think no harm to just send to them to see how it is. At least u will know how much the damage if it costs money to repair. If u send to Apple for repair, they are likely to make it back to original state however it just depends if it costs money.

I did not get extended warranty after 1 year for my MacBook Pro touchbar. Same to other Apple products I own. I have yet to encounter issues with them except physical damage. Therefore, I am saving the cost of purchasing Apple care for the purchase of next macbook. However, I am quite confident that it can be used for more than 5 years.

yeah. i think macbook pro can only last. this is also the reason why i do not consider to get applecare, since apple care also can only cover up to 3 years in total the warranty only.
