Need to see more reviews to see how the input lag is. I'm one of those people that always notice tearing, and always notice if input lag. Quite hate it when most of my friends can play without having to have vsync on.
*
Wow, didn't know that only selected people can see tearing on the screen. I'm one of those who usually vsync on. Can lead me any good reads on that matter?

i got 1 question to ask u guys,

does any of this monitor supports 1:1 scaling which is the samsung 206bw, samsung 226bw and dell e228wfp.

Ive google everywhere and cant find the answer to this.
*
AFAIK, none of the above have 1:1 mapping..For sure, the Dell do not have it..

QUOTE(dattebayo @ Jul 2 2007, 12:34 AM)
just to add: if got 1:1 mapping, means that if we set the 1280x1024 resolution on a wide screen, the screen will just positioned in center and  no stretching at all?

btw, LG L196WT have 1:1 mapping or not?
*
Yes, from what i have read thus far, 1:1 mapping allows you to automatically adjust non-widescreen into a normal viewing application with 2 black bars at the side. Anyway, i am not sure whether this can be done or not but according to Nvidia Control Panel, we can set the LCD to display in normal mode instead of widescreen (something like 1:1 mapping but manually done). Have yet to try it but i will test it out tonight to see whether it works or not..

No it's not that selected people can see the tearing, it just bothers me more, heh. I used to go to lanparties with hundreds of people and most people didn't mind, or maybe they just didn't see it as often as I did. I've never been able to play any game without vsync on while I know quite a few people play without it. Tearing and input lag is always there, it's down to whether you notice it or not and how much it bothers you.

I've noticed it since i got my lcd, always thought it was due to your graphics card outputting more frames per second then your monitor's refresh rate. So my assumption was that v-sync just synced the frames your graphics card to the refresh rate on your monitor?

I am quite aware of tearing as well, but I have learnt to live with it.

Turning on V-Sync will eliminate tearing. But your framerate will suddenly jump from very smooth to jerky when the action is intense. However, for games like Titan Quest, I definitely have to turn V-Sync on, or else it would be impossible for me to play. For FPS, I can live with tearing.

I really like the fact that the monitor support the potrait mode. thumbup.gif
It's silly of Samsung to include portrait mode on a TN panel. Imagine the abysmal color change and viewing angle changed.

If you have a chance, nothing beats going to the shop and having a look for yourself. I read much good about the C panel, sigh, so still debating on whether to get the 226bw or not. My current CRT is gonna make me blind I swear.

when u say u see many people complaining over the C Panel...who are these people?? are they the gwailos on other forums? if they are...ignore them...they tend to be anal over everything... love to exxagerate too. theyre just making a huge fuss over something small...thats all. i have yet to see any C Panel Users complain about the C Panel on these forums.

the C Panel is fine. im using it. works wonderfully. the main difference between the 3 is just out of the box...meaning when u take all 3 brand new and fresh out of the box and turn them on. the S Panel would look best.

but after tweaking and setting for each user's own preference, they end up being the same thing.

Well, the only reason that I wanted a portrait mode is to read a lot of text, especially for programming. So, color changes and viewing angle should not bother me that much. smile.gif

hoho... while a large monitor is best for movie viewing, and that only if u re sitting quite a distance from the monitor. But when comes to gaming, and normal usage where u can't sit too far from the screen, anything greater than 22" will make our eyes tiresome, due to increase in eyeball movement and neck movement. Sometimes its easier to lost focus esp playing RTS and typing documents on big screen laugh.gif

just my opinion.

laugh.gif U havent tried gaming n working on a 30" ya? Wait till u try it, u will NEVER ever go back to small LCDs again.

You need monitor for your ps3/360? Look for a bigger monitor than 22" if you really concern about 1:1 pixel mapping.

There is no point having 1:1 pixel mapping for monitor less than 22". Imagine playing HD content 1080 video, the image will be out of sync. In certain cases, even 720 resolution will be out of sync since the horizontal line is more than any screen below 22" can support. The important of having 1:1 pixel mapping will only benefit for lcd monitors with the resolution is natively full HD given that you using it with consoles and standalone HD player or BD/HD-ROM.

This does not apply for video(unprotected content) play on media player classic because it is fully application based control. And you can't play HD-DVD or Blu-Ray movie on MPC AFAIK. For PC games, you don't have to worry about 1:1 pixel mapping.
