After 6 months of using the Iriz, here are my top 3 complaints. These are just personal picks. I previously drive local Proton and Perodua cars, so it's safe to say that the comparisons are based on cars of the same price range. Don't get me wrong, it's still one of the best cars for the price, but some gripes makes me questions the design team.
Wipers are annoying AF. If you set to normal continuous wipe, it tries to be intelligent by increasing the interval when your car is stopped. I get it. The design team wants to be cool with wiper preservation methods. It made me wonder if they ever tested this method while it's raining during traffic jam. Can only see the glowing tail lights of the car infront. And don't get me started when you wanna cross a t-junction during rain. Maybe there's a button to disable it, I didn't explore.
Second would be the central lock. The most dangerous design flaw. And I did check with Proton, it was designed that way. In normal central lock situations, backseat passengers cannot open the doors once the central lock kicks in. For Iriz, if the passenger pulled the handle once, central lock for that door is released. Pull it again and it opens. They say it's for emergency. Last week, my child was able to open the door twice. Maybe they design it as solely central lock in mind, not safety lock.
Ok, let's get into something common. Fuel consumption. They marketed VVT as fuel efficient. The lowest I've clocked is 4.3L/100km. Not bad. However, this is only possible at 3:00am. During rush hour, expect an average of 8L/100km. I'm staying in the old parts of Cheras, can say the Iriz is not built for that area. Old Cheras areas consist of slopes, humps and jam.
I did clocked 11L/100km before. VVT engines are a torture during traffic jam and slopes.
Yours is 1.3L or 1.6L? my biggest complaint was the range (I usually put range as my standard view at the speedometer), and once the range left 70km, it would miss and blink. This thing piss me off more cz I know when to refuel at which station, and other manufacturers don't even put this as standard. For example Honda can even put its range till 0km, same goes to X70, X50.
Related to FC, the 1.6L engine, thanks to less efficient Campro, Im getting an average of 11km/l or 9L+/100km, this with my eco pattern drive, city + highway, Kajang-KL-Kajang. 11km/l. While my other car with the routes and tried to drive a similar pattern, getting 13km/l but that car is a 2.4L engine.
Ask buddies, all said welcome to the Campro engine for FC. They own Campro CPS, which are even higher fuel consumption at city drive
