Guys, I just gotten my new car from Proton in late January. A few weeks ago, when I tried to ignite my engine as usual (hold brake pedal and press "Start/Stop" button, I do not hold the "Start/Stop" button), the engine kept cranking until i release my brake and the engine was not ignite. It only ignited after second attempt. This problem then go away until today. Today, I experienced the same situation 3 times when I try to ignite my engine. Anybody experience the same problem as me?

this problem infamous for proton saga with push to start function as well,

and i dont mean to be a bummer, but even Proton themselves dont know the cause of it and how to fix it...

Meaning you also experiencing the same thing? The only solution is keep trying? I was thinking to send back to Proton to have them to inspect my car but I was afraid that I cannot replicate the issue at the service centre

yes on my Saga MC2. it happens on and off.. just go SC complain about it only.. this problem is famous enough they will know about it.. but not like they can do anything about it also.. unless your hard to start is very severe type maybe can make case to claim warranty for the starter motor.. but if it happens intermittently the most they will do is check your starter motor and say it is fine but cannot give you an answer why the issue occur..

the hard to start problem plagues a lot of the sagas out there with push start.. need crank 2~3 times only the car can start..

What a bummer... I already made an appointment to sent in for inspection. Thank you very much for your info notworthy.gif

For proton SC, push it max to them, asking to replace the parts under warranty. For my other proton car, usually send to SC at IOI Putrajaya mall cz easy to claim warranty. Claimed auto rear boot part for x70 2 years ago.

My concern is that this issue will come up randomly. I did not experience the problem today bangwall.gif

I sent my car to service centre for inspection. They only charged my battery, not even changing it. Then I was told the "correct way" to ignite my engine.
Step 1: press "Start/Stop" button.
Step 2: press "start/Stop" button again so that the speedometer and tachometer move.
Step3: Hold brake pedal and press "Start/Stop" button for the third time.

And guess what, I experience the same problem even with these steps so I never bother to do it again. Really disappointed with Proton. You will think they would have ironed out these problems as the model has been around since 2014 dry.gif

nothing to do with the model..

1st gen iriz and pre-MC iriz start stop never ever had this problem..

and i already told you this issue plaguing most of proton's start stop cars. saga/iriz/persona.. so they all share the same part between them... could be the starter motor ciplak, could be wiring issue.. nobody knows unless you dismantle the whole car and test 1 by 1..

i also told you, will be waste of time.. cause the SC themselves dont know what causes it, so they dont know what the issue is. and so they also dont have a fix for it..

I thought they would have take a more serious look into this issue as this issue had been running wild and free for the past few years and this model was still being in production at least until late 2024. I decided to get Iriz knowing about its CVT issue beforehand but this problem caught me by surprise sweat.gif

I was initially planning to get a Toyota Yaris. After reading and watching review about Proton iriz in the internet, I thought I can look past its cons for saving a significant amount of money and better driving dynamic. I did not read about engine ignition issue so I was not expecting it. As long as this issue does not cause more serious consequence to the car, I will just live with it at least for the next 5 years.

macam old campro punya problem. cylinder low compression cannot ignite fuel
just crank until itself start. nonid pijak gas (worry fuel flood)
*
I pijak brake only casue that is the way to ignite engine for Iriz with "Start/Stop" button

Which SC is that? Usually I sent my car for warranty claim to Puncak Merak Semenyih SC and SC near IOI Putrajaya mall. Both are good for me, claimed few parts under warranty. Most expansive part is the auto rear boot for x70 ckd, they just noted, ok not functioning properly, we claim it under warranty.

Glenmarie. I got my car from that branch so I just sent back to the same branch even though it is inconvenient to me. I should have sent to a service centre which is much more convenient to me.

my persona got this same issue too, its like her "period" time, one month sure got 1 time or few time crank longer than usual to start the engine
*
I can live with it if it is just merely require additional 1-2 attempts to start the engine. Hopefully it will stay that way.

i drive persona (mostly same car as iriz anyways) i feel all your pain.

another thing i find annoying is when the car is running and you close the door to, god forbid i throw something or go adjust my child's seats, the car will horn loudly 4 times. if you hear 4 loud beeps in a shopping mall parking, thats probably me trying to adjust my child seats.  laugh.gif

and this car's fuel consumption is just funny to me. i drive city 90% of the time, short distances so i expected horrible mileage. but i drive other cars same distances, same pattern. this car only getting slightly better (like 2km/l better) economy than my aging leaking camry 2.4.

the funniest thing about this car is the meter. i calculate my economy manually via odo and dividing the fuel. the meter keeps saying im getting 15-20kml, when it's nowhere near that.
  confused.gif

but oh well. its a car. gonna use it till it dies or if i strike gold and can afford something better.

I drove an old oil burning 2.4l camry for years before getting a new iriz this year. Iriz is just slightly more fuel efficient in city drive. I dont think it can come close to my old camry if I want to drive long distance. The fuel consumption meter is a joke. Yesterday it showed 19km/l (yes, i avoid traffic jam at all cost and drive like a snail), turned out to be 13km/l after doing manual calculation. Gosh, I missed my camry so much cry.gif

when i was driving the camry i thought it was bad. thought will improve my qol by switching into modern car
mana tau not much improvement and i have to pay installments now  sweat.gif
but modern car got airbags and isofix, thats what i really need. not like these things can actually retrofit.

Another thing is the punch cvt, I am still trying to get used to it. 1 thing I enjoy in this car is its handling which managed to put smile on my face multiple times. 50k only, I cannot complain much la.

Think of it more of an AMT box...lift, wait a sec then only accelerate...that should give enough time for the clutch to engage and when accelerate, just keep the rpm at about 2k...any higher and it's just fuel burned making noise, not any faster...
*
What I do normally is to gently tap on the accelerator after I let go of my brake for 1 second. RPM will then raise to above 1k and stay there which allow me to accelerate the moment I step on accelerator again. But it does not work all the time however. I am extremely stressful when I am the first car at the traffic light😵
