After 6 months of using the Iriz, here are my top 3 complaints. These are just personal picks. I previously drive local Proton and Perodua cars, so it's safe to say that the comparisons are based on cars of the same price range. Don't get me wrong, it's still one of the best cars for the price, but some gripes makes me questions the design team.

Wipers are annoying AF. If you set to normal continuous wipe, it tries to be intelligent by increasing the interval when your car is stopped. I get it. The design team wants to be cool with wiper preservation methods. It made me wonder if they ever tested this method while it's raining during traffic jam. Can only see the glowing tail lights of the car infront. And don't get me started when you wanna cross a t-junction during rain. Maybe there's a button to disable it, I didn't explore.

Second would be the central lock. The most dangerous design flaw. And I did check with Proton, it was designed that way. In normal central lock situations, backseat passengers cannot open the doors once the central lock kicks in. For Iriz, if the passenger pulled the handle once, central lock for that door is released. Pull it again and it opens. They say it's for emergency. Last week, my child was able to open the door twice. Maybe they design it as solely central lock in mind, not safety lock.

Ok, let's get into something common. Fuel consumption. They marketed VVT as fuel efficient. The lowest I've clocked is 4.3L/100km. Not bad. However, this is only possible at 3:00am. During rush hour, expect an average of 8L/100km. I'm staying in the old parts of Cheras, can say the Iriz is not built for that area. Old Cheras areas consist of slopes, humps and jam. I did clocked 11L/100km before. VVT engines are a torture during traffic jam and slopes.

i drive persona (mostly same car as iriz anyways) i feel all your pain.

another thing i find annoying is when the car is running and you close the door to, god forbid i throw something or go adjust my child's seats, the car will horn loudly 4 times. if you hear 4 loud beeps in a shopping mall parking, thats probably me trying to adjust my child seats. laugh.gif

and this car's fuel consumption is just funny to me. i drive city 90% of the time, short distances so i expected horrible mileage. but i drive other cars same distances, same pattern. this car only getting slightly better (like 2km/l better) economy than my aging leaking camry 2.4.

the funniest thing about this car is the meter. i calculate my economy manually via odo and dividing the fuel. the meter keeps saying im getting 15-20kml, when it's nowhere near that. confused.gif

but oh well. its a car. gonna use it till it dies or if i strike gold and can afford something better.

I drove an old oil burning 2.4l camry for years before getting a new iriz this year. Iriz is just slightly more fuel efficient in city drive. I dont think it can come close to my old camry if I want to drive long distance. The fuel consumption meter is a joke. Yesterday it showed 19km/l (yes, i avoid traffic jam at all cost and drive like a snail), turned out to be 13km/l after doing manual calculation. Gosh, I missed my camry so much cry.gif

when i was driving the camry i thought it was bad. thought will improve my qol by switching into modern car
mana tau not much improvement and i have to pay installments now sweat.gif
but modern car got airbags and isofix, thats what i really need. not like these things can actually retrofit.

The mechanical tech probably would be about the same era... Rmb Campro started late 90s... Safety and body build would be a bit better than the Camry I would think
*
yeah engine tech is 90s + vvt

safety in terms of airbags and modern crumple zones yes and with vsc huge plus
but body build id doubt that

All the rumours about the CVT, won't ever recover...look at how Honda City & Jazz with CVT, also no value...
*
made me curious so i did a simple & quick research.

2019 city ~58k. which is around 67% of the original price.
2019 vios ~59k. around 68% of its original price.
2019 persona ~32k. around 60% of its original price.
2019 iriz ~26k. around 65% of its original price.
2019 saga ~30k. around 76% of its original price.

all prices from carsome, use average price of same year and specs.

the highest value is the only car with 4at.

correlation or direct causation hmm.gif i'll leave it to brighter minds than me.
