if i'm not mistaken, PB visa electron annual fee will be waived (rm0) if we use certain amount of money in PB visa electron ...
am i right??
It was RM1000 in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Not sure if the rule has changed now. Better confirm with Public Bank.

No worries. Been there. Call Public Bank CS, they will ask you a few questions and then they will unblock the card for you.

Want you guys opinion - reason why I asked my son to get Visa Electron is because he is under 18 and can't be issued a CC. And with charges of RM10 only, is it a good option for me to deposit money into his Visa Electron account here and so that he can withdraw in US?
*
I assume he is studying in US ? Why don't you just get him a Citibank Citicard ? It is annual fee free. Citibank does not charge a cent when he withdraws money at overseas Citibank. Another alternative is HSBC but HSBC will charge you RM5 for each withdrawal made at overseas HSBC (overseas handling fee will be waived if you're holding a Premier ATM Card).

Anyways, these two options certainly are much better than Public Bank VISA Electron.

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Jun 26 2009, 10:26 AM)
In respect of your second statement, my thought is that it is so convenient that I can deposit in RM into his Visa Electron anytime at any PB machine (no need go teller do TT or bank draft during working hours) and he can withdraw it is USD when he needs funds.
*
Open an account in Citibank or HSBC. HSBC is huge in New York. HSBC is also present in many other States but not quite as big as New York. Citibank is also huge in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami area. Should be very convenient for your son.

Citibank Citicard is it a debit card that is issued with savings or current account?

Citibank Citicard can be issued with both Savings/Checking account. Blue one for regular customers and Gold one for Citigold customers.

By the way my son going to midwest U and got no citibank or hsbc branch there sad.gif
Midwest University in St Louis ? Yeah, there is indeed no Citibank branch there. Bank of America is huge there but not a single branch for Citibank. What a pity ! doh.gif

If you do not have any friends or relatives who are Citibank customers, you may still be able to open an account with Citibank by submitting a letter of reference from another bank. This is however subjected to the branch manager's approval. Good luck !

Anyone managed to book a room at Genting Highlands using PBB Day2Day VISA Debit Card ?

And what should we enter for the credit limit if we were to register PBB Day2Day VISA Debit Card for "Verified by VISA" ? Is it 000000 just like PBB VISA Electron ?

My son collected the Visa Electron card but he can't open an online account as he is under 18 years of age. Aiyah, I should have checked on this earlier and apply the Visa Electron under my name and give hime a supp instead, wasted 1 month!

He can still check his balance by going to ATM machines where there will be a RM2 imposed at non-Public Bank ATMS. This method a A bit troublesome.
*
You should consider applying him the Public Bank Day2Day VISA debit card. RM10 will be deducted whenever he withdraw cash at CHASE/Bank of America/US Bank ATM. It works just like PBB VISA Electron. The annual fee is RM12 and will be issued to you right away when you open a savings/current account with Public Bank. If he already owns an account with Public Bank, just tell them you'll like to apply an ATM Card/VISA Debit. Since he is still under 18, the dad or mom has to sign a few documents so an ATM Card/VISA Debit can be issued.

QUOTE(ping325 @ Jul 2 2009, 06:09 PM)
erm....for the PB day2day debit card...can i use it for online purchase ? do i need to register anything ???

You need to register for "Verified by VISA" from www.publicbank.com.my if you want to use it to buy a room at Genting.

More or less the same. He needs it so his son can simply withdraw money while studying in the US. TT is troublesome.

just got my debit card today
my atm card was damage but some they gave me a MasterCard debit card as my new atm card frm RHB

question here

1. The transactions using debit card ... will it be charge with 2 or 3 % processing fee like credit card?

What do you mean by "processing fee" ? There is no "2 or 3 % processing fee" for credit card. There is however, 0% - 2.5% of administration fee when you use your credit card overseas.

QUOTE(PrinceHamsap @ Jul 3 2009, 01:13 AM)
2. Is there any annual fee?
Most bank charge RM8/pa for ATM/debit card. Public Bank is charging RM12 for the Day2Day ATM/VISA Debit card. It also depends on what account you are holding. The is no ATM/debit card annual fee if it is basic savings/current account.

Please note that you will be charged RM12 to convert your existing PB ATM Card to PB Day2Day VISA Debit. RM12 will be automatically deducted from your account a year later and so on.

By the way, earlier on someone claimed he/she managed to book a room via www.genting.com.my using his/her Standard Chartered Debit Mastercard (issued with E$AVER account).

QUOTE(imforumer @ Jul 5 2009, 10:09 PM)
I have doubt here, the annual fee for PB PLUS saving account is RM8. If I were to convert my ATM card to PB Day2Day VISA Debit Card, which is RM12/annum, will I be charged with a total of RM12+8 or just RM12? TQ.
*
Actually there is NO annual fee for Public Bank PLUS Savings Account. The RM8 is only chargeable if you have an ATM card issued.

If you choose to convert your existing ATM Card (old one is red color while new one is blue color) to Public Bank Day2Day VISA Debit Card, you will only be charged RM12/pa, which is RM4 more than their regular ATM card which can only be used at MEPS supported ATM.

Maybank VISA Debit Card is the best actually as it is annual fee free but NOT recommended for those intend to use the card for online transaction as it CAN'T be used online. Citibank VISA Debit Card is also annual fee free but i am not sure if it can be used online. Anyways, many debit cards on the market DO NOT support online transaction with the exception of the debit cards offered by Public Bank. Many have successfully used their Public Bank debit cards online include myself.

QUOTE(darenong @ Jul 5 2009, 10:30 PM)
credit card scams is much more troublesome than debit cards

I beg to differ. Actually a debit card is more dangerous than credit card. Why ? Because with debit card you are using your own money every time you swipe your debit card whereas with credit card you are using the bank's money. If your debit card is stolen and charged a huge sum of money into it (assume that you have lots of money inside), the money pretty much is lost forever whereas if a fraud happens on a credit card, one needs to pay a maximum of RM250 only. The problem is that many people do not know the existence in such clause in the credit card agreement (about the maximum liability of RM250) and when this happen, the bank will force your to pay for the full amount. And of course BNM is responsible too for not enforcing this rule strictly.

This is pretty much the reason why i DO NOT charge anything to my Standard Chartered debit Mastercard, except only for the petrol transaction between January 08 - June 08 as Standard Chartered was having this irresistible deal then (7% cash back) rclxms.gif

i meant much more troublesome as in u lose ur debit card money then u only hav urself to blame on the amount being swiped off ... but having a credit card with say 20k - 30k amount swiped off  ... tat's not goin to go away tat easy isnt it ? u aint goin to pay that amt ... it could happen very fast until u realized it it could be 20 transactions and all is from petrol stations .... they`ll just forget abt the amount with just rm 250 ? r u sure abt this ?

Please refer to the previous version of credit card thread. A lady won a credit card fraud case against a bank (Citibank if not mistaken). The sum involved was RM2k i believe.

have you used debit card before? for debit card if you want to buy something, you must enter your pin number first after the swipe, not like credit card.. no pin number no money
Only if your card is a "Bankard". All regular ATM cards issued by local banks have the "Bankard" feature.

You do not have to enter your pin number if you are paying using a VISA Electron, VISA debit or Mastercard debit card. Please do not confuse VISA Electron/VISA debit/Mastercard debit with "Bankard".

For international payment, lets say, from MYR$ (Malaysia) to USD$ (United States). Will there be any agent charges? Or additional costs incur?

There will be 1% administration fee for all overseas transaction.

QUOTE(Hookah Stuff @ Jul 6 2009, 02:27 PM)
Plus, my card now contains RM20 but could not be taken out from the ATM. Why is this happening? Is it because of the below minimum amount of money in my card?

You sure it's RM20 and not RM25 ? Anyway, Public Bank requires you to keep a minimum balance of RM25 in your VISA Electron at all times. The RM25 deposit will be refunded to you when you cancel your VISA Electron.

QUOTE(Hookah Stuff @ Jul 6 2009, 02:27 PM)
Will it affect an online payment transaction? Thanks!
Sure. As you have insufficient fund in your VISA Electron and payment will be declined.
