ha ha... good question... i am searching for this answer as well... you got it do share here ok...

i noticed there are a few types... the once most commonly seen is the fins are fully copper and another one is mixture of aluminium and copper.... which one give the best heat dissipation? for sure the pure copper is much more heavier than the mix one...
*
As i know, a mixture of both is the best. This is my oppinion : Copper is good in term of transmitting the heat from the chipset to the copper but not as good in term of dissipating it into the air. This is where the aluminum comes in. It helps to dissipate the heat from the copper to the aluminum and then to the air. Thats why a mixture of both will be better. Unless you have a powerful fan to blow the copper, having full copper is kinda useless..Correct me if i am wrong..

The reason i am asking is because, Galaxy products use their own PCB. They are using the VF900 on the GTS and if its the same as those third party ones, then i guess the GTS is able to fit most 7series HSF. On the GT, i never tried the CM one before. But from CM website, they are stating that the fan is capable of fitting 7series and 8series. So my guess is that it will be fine as well...Lol..dont shoot me if it doesnt..

No. The 8800GTS is still using the reference cooler. I think they are selling it seperately..

yup... i saw some article also... mixure of material for the heat sink helps on the heat absorbtion and heat dissipation....

summary from your explanation. you mean that we can install the Zalman HS/Fan for the 7 series into the 86GT? If that so i am going to get one...
Funny... my 3dmark01 still around 24k only.... i think 3Dmark01 is depending on the processor as well....... correct me if i am wrong....

I also noticed than in VR-zone, there is this 8600GT article saying that overclocking the Palit ard can reach about 700/1000.... i wonder why mine crash? is it becuase of my mobo cannot support it?

is it possible for 8800/2900 to use smaller fan like zalman? nowadays the highend gc damn terrible, need a heatsink to cover 90% of the card sweat.gif

3dmarm01 doesn't stress processor at all, anyway it doesnt seem practical to trust a benchmark which based on technology 6 years ago. Run latest like 3dmark05/06 will be more accurate. The palit one they claim that it is factory overvolted, like last time they overvolt memory in 7300gt sonic. Dunno much about Galaxy though.

Now, i stress it is my ASSUMPTION tongue.gif lol..This is because i didnt have one to test and is looking for a 86GT myself which is able to support it. If the VF900 or the CM Fan used on the Galaxy is totally the same (not modified) as those used in the 7series card, then Yes, the 8series card can support those 7series cooler as well.

corret me if i am wrong... i think pencil mod is changing the resistance value of the resistor by applying a layer of carbon( rom the pencil by scratching it) on the resistor and eventually change the resistance value....
