really...? i havent confirm my own core speed and other setting yet... why my nvidia control don show...?
juz downloaded NiBiTor 3.4a will check later go home...
before this i was using 6600gt 128mb galaxy zalman... already not functioning...  doh.gif
ok i did some benchies for 05, everything in default mode...

[attachmentid=230960]

mayb is my old athlon64 1.8Ghz lowered the performance...  blush.gif
i think need some1 with am2x2 series or core2 to run 3dMark again...
*
not bad my friend... your bench result looks ok... I think if i get a 8600GT, the score will reach somewhere around 9 to 10k...
so tempted.... what brand u are using? factory oc or stock speed like the reference?

IINM, amperage in 12V is more important than the power labelled outside PSU
*
dude... how is your performance of your card? you bought a 8600GT right?
Going to get mine tomorrow. Galaxy brand... factory overclock...

can share your tet setup and the 3dmarks results?

18A+18A = 36A, more than 26A requirement. Correct me if i mistaken, but most PSU has lesser than 20A for single 12V rails, need to combine i think
its ok, better than the other non-OC brand biggrin.gif
and the fan is cool too, using CM fan  cool.gif

Yea, that should be a main concern. How do you feel about the card?Worth the money?

I am just worried that this card might not be able to handle the new 22" LCD i am ordering. Thats why i am still in doubt..
*
so far the card performed good. I even OC the fella till 650/900 running smooth and stable... Well my 3Dmark05 hit 10kabove.... kinda impressive to me for such an upgrade.... The goodthing is it is not power hunger. thumbup.gif

If install the zalman cooler (if there is) i think i can further OC the fella to 700/1000.

Will share if i have OC till the limit.

by the way, retail seldom sell... buy from forumers la... can try "Useless" he is selling kinda low price...

temp isnt limiting the OCablility, but voltage is, so unless u wanna try out pencil voltmod, there's little chance to OC it till 700/1000, eventhough it will, but it will crash more often and perform even worse than lower clock
*
did you over clock yurs bro? what is your clock speed.
Pencil mod.... hmmm... duno abut that...

I think i will try OC further today.....

benchmark run at 675/900

if u manage to OC till 700/950 with great stability, let me know icon_idea.gif
*
ok.... My benchies seems abit higher maybe because of my +4600.
I bench mine at 650/900 to get the 5k+ in 3DM06. I have a feeling it will hit 700/950

eh for 8800 series... does all manufacturers use the same fan?

because last time, even 7900gs came with various fans, coolermaster, zalman, and other oem type

so for 8800 is universal for all brands rite? All major brands look almost the same, except the winfast TDH extreme version, looks like transformer biggrin.gif
*
dude... a question here..

when i run 3Dmark01 with my 6800GS, the result is about 20K but when i run my 3Dmark01 with my 8600GT, the Result only shows 23k... do you face this as well? atually i expect the 3Dmark01 to be more than 25k... looking at forumer cstkl1 result, it is so huge difference...... wow.... shocking.gif

i cant run 3dmark 01, due to stupid vista
to further test out ur card, try running some 3d demanding games like COH and NFSC, COH has an inbuilt graphic test, and that will answer the question on the card's actual performance
*
dude.. i run couple of test already with OC up to 675/950

seems crash.... i think the memory max stability is 900 because i the core clock/shader domain went beyond 1500MHz and hang....

so i tune down to 675/900... runs stable with 3Dmark result at 10403

check out my screenshot...

Any sifu here tried Asus EN8600GTS TOP before? Planning to replace my 7300GT Sonic, and that's the only one available from my supplier, in terms of mid range DX10 card.  Asking for RM950 tho... ohmy.gif What's the price like in West M'sia now?
*
expensive ler... for 950 i can top up another 100 ti get a 8800GTS320MB... check in the forum... some are selling that price...

IMO, If the 86GTS go beyond 790, I rather save for the extra 250 to go for 8800GTS320... if you budget max is about 700, you can check out the forum... got 8600GTS-OC version for sale....

good luck

tip i usually remove heatsinks of all my graphic card and use either arctic ceramique or silver 5..

this time tried the arctic cooling mx1
gives a bit headroom or cooler temps by a few degrees.. usually.. but didnt check on the ultra...
*

[/quote]

hmmm... i think i dont face any heat problem because i check very constantly the GPU temp,, The max it went was about 76C.

I think it is the limiting voltage as what dattebayo said.... really itchy to mod... he he he.... but i know i for sure need a better coller if o further mod it..... unfortunately i dont know what other cooler/hs for my card.... mine is Galaxy and it comes with thecooler master hs/fan which looks like a zalman type...

Do you know whether the Galaxy 8600GT could support other third party HSF?I mean those particularly used on 7series one like Zalman etc?
*
ha ha... good question... i am searching for this answer as well... you got it do share here ok...

i noticed there are a few types... the once most commonly seen is the fins are fully copper and another one is mixture of aluminium and copper.... which one give the best heat dissipation? for sure the pure copper is much more heavier than the mix one...

As i know, a mixture of both is the best. This is my oppinion : Copper is good in term of transmitting the heat from the chipset to the copper but not as good in term of dissipating it into the air. This is where the aluminum comes in. It helps to dissipate the heat from the copper to the aluminum and then to the air. Thats why a mixture of both will be better. Unless you have a powerful fan to blow the copper, having full copper is kinda useless..Correct me if i am wrong..

The reason i am asking is because, Galaxy products use their own PCB. They are using the VF900 on the GTS and if its the same as those third party ones, then i guess the GTS is able to fit most 7series HSF. On the GT, i never tried the CM one before. But from CM website, they are stating that the fan is capable of fitting 7series and 8series. So my guess is that it will be fine as well...Lol..dont shoot me if it doesnt..
*
yup... i saw some article also... mixure of material for the heat sink helps on the heat absorbtion and heat dissipation....

summary from your explanation. you mean that we can install the Zalman HS/Fan for the 7 series into the 86GT? If that so i am going to get one...
Funny... my 3dmark01 still around 24k only.... i think 3Dmark01 is depending on the processor as well....... correct me if i am wrong....

I also noticed than in VR-zone, there is this 8600GT article saying that overclocking the Palit ard can reach about 700/1000.... i wonder why mine crash? is it becuase of my mobo cannot support it?

is it possible for 8800/2900 to use smaller fan like zalman? nowadays the highend gc damn terrible, need a heatsink to cover 90% of the card sweat.gif
3dmarm01 doesn't stress processor at all, anyway it doesnt seem practical to trust a benchmark which based on technology 6 years ago. Run latest like 3dmark05/06 will be more accurate. The palit one they claim that it is factory overvolted, like last time they overvolt memory in 7300gt sonic. Dunno much about Galaxy though.
*
yeah.. the result for the 3dMark01 kinda dissapointing...
My 3Dmark05/0 looks pretty fine... so itchy to do the pencil mod but i have never experience it... have you tried that before? if yes can share some experience?

no.. i dont want to try that as I might sell the card 6 months later whistling.gif

you can google around, and look for some guide on galaxy's PCB voltmod, last time I saw the volt guide on Palit sonic
*
yeah... later warranty void also susah...
haha... who knows maybe i might change to 2900 in next 6 months too... i hae never keep a card more than 6 months. ha ha ha

Now, i stress it is my ASSUMPTION  tongue.gif lol..This is because i didnt have one to test and is looking for a 86GT myself which is able to support it. If the VF900 or the CM Fan used on the Galaxy is totally the same (not modified) as those used in the 7series card, then Yes, the 8series card can support those 7series cooler as well.
*
got to find anybody want to borrow me the HS/fan to try out the slot and the fittings....

What does Pencil Vmod do actually?
*
corret me if i am wrong... i think pencil mod is changing the resistance value of the resistor by applying a layer of carbon( rom the pencil by scratching it) on the resistor and eventually change the resistance value....

I hae both the 8600GT from Galaxy OC version and the 7900GT XFX 520core..

Both are good cards but the performance got good and bad.
As for 8600GT cards, the benchies for the 3Dmark05 and 06 is always higher but the 3Dmark for the 01&03 is lower, maybe because of the VS and the pipeline. But when come to 3D shooting gameplay, the picture is nice... but the Frame rate is lower compare to 7900GT.

As for the 7900GT, the 3Dmark05&06 sucks... game play is about 15 to 20% higher especially in the 1st person shooter game. I notice it when i play the GhostRecon.
Both got good and bad la.... but for me game play is more important because you wont be buying a card just to test the 3Dmark right....

8600GT
- New, DX10, nice graphic

7900GT
- Old card,no DX10, but optimum performance for the current game. Might loose to 8600GT in DX10 game in future...

hope this help... smile.gif cheers thumbup.gif
