Hi.

TM will upgrade my internet from 50Mbps to 100Mbps sometimes next week. Will they change my router as well or they will keep using the current one. Currently, TM gave me DIR850L. Can that router support 100mbps speed?

Thanks.

ohhh... that's new info to me.

but how come signal was strong upstairs using the previous router? the downgraded the router or what lor?  confused.gif

Perhaps less interference. But, if you are staying in a double-storey then, it is highly recommended to place your router at upstairs for best wireless performance. What is your previous router and your current router?

QUOTE(Jjuggler @ Mar 30 2018, 09:14 AM)
Any router should be located at upstairs. Not downstairs. If you place your router at downstairs, don't expect much wireless signal strength at upstairs. All the wireless wave from the router's antenna moves (flows) downwards and not upwards. For best wireless experience, locate the router at upstairs. Perhaps, the wireless from c1200 or dir850 can be improved. However, that c1200 kenot be saved anymore. So as SilentVampire bro said, invest in a better router such as asus ac58u. ac1200G or ac1300uhp.
*
Place the router upside down, problem solved. Unless it’s gravity that’s forcing the waves down then you’ll need a small piece of gravitonium. Ref: Agents of Shield S05E13.

But seriously, bro, expected a bit more from you. Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet.

Just take it out per normal. If you not sure how, first identify the type of fiber cable and see how: https://www.arcelect.com/fibercable.htm

Yes, but definitely not 100Mbps speed with 2.4Ghz. The coverage with 5GHz is bad with the DIR850L tbh, so if you want something good, you have to buy it yourself.

Yes, the last time one would be the C1200, which is shit. Hope the new DIR-850L is good.

Kodi...

Unless using quasar, all the stuff there r small files... u dun even need half of 100mbps to do smoothly.

Assuming the addon and links r gud, of course.

I m not sure how bad upstairs will be with router downstairs with diff homes.

My own experiments in my house tell me i can still get 90% of 100mbps at 50ft upstairs with 5ghz.

2.4ghz will not be good... maybe 50mbps or even 20-30 at bad spots.

So, better use devices with 5ghz to get max juice.

With good devices, if u still cant get it good enuf, do consider a better router.

This issue pops up at least twice a week... do u wanna read the dozens of threads on the subject? biggrin.gif

Last night my Unifi disconnected. After restart, I got brand new Ip range that never encountered before.

42.xxx.xxx.xx

No matter how many times I restart the router, still get this IP range. No more 115.xx & 175.xx

Slightly unhappy about this since this new IP range speed is a bit slow.

Ampang area here. The browsing speed is about the same. But the download speed is a bit lower. I could notice the small difference because I am heavy downloader. The response time is also a bit slower. May be placebo effect, not too sure. sweat.gif

60.xx IP range is still the best. Sadly it's quite rare nowdays..... doh.gif

Most(all?) of the 42.x.x.x that TM are using belongs to WEBE or used to since they’re one and the same now.

Maybe routing is a bit different hence the difference in speed.

Just now TM contractor came and proceeded with my 50Mbps to 100Mbps upgrade. But how come they didn't change my router? I was told that I will get a router replacement by the Unifi staff when they called and offered me this RM20 upgrade package.

I am using the Dlink DIR-615 (the white color one), the technician just plugged in the LAN cable to test the speed, it was around 90Mbps download and 50Mbps upload speed. Is it normal confused.gif

then there is no way for you to reach 100mbps using wifi. complain tm and they will change another router for you. My gf house is using 50mbps and cant even reach that speed with a single band router. after complained they replaced the dir850 for her and it is foc. not sure about your case since her contract is refreshed for 2 years.

Thanks for info. I told the contractor the wifi speed couldn't reach 100mbps, but he just mentioned he tested (using LAN cable) and confirmed 100mbps was supported. That's why he didn't change the router for me. I just lodge a report through Unifi livechat. Hopefully can get my router changed.

nope no charge. when they saw that router, they change it immediately without doing any speed test. they know it wont be able to reach that speed over wifi.
