Not sure about the contract refreshed, but i was told that the contract won't extend, and should follow back the existing contract.

i doubt anyone knows what promo is going on with what at any time!

really, tm/unifi has been using so many blardy names for so many variations in offers, pacakges, 4ever changing, can't even tell which is which.

hypptv->unifi tv; used the name jumbo for 1 year then change to ultimate; ruby, ruby2, ruby plus

maybe next we have unifi ultimate2 for 200mbps! biggrin.gif

maybe it's marketing strategy - confuse & conquer!

Just now TM contractor came and proceeded with my 50Mbps to 100Mbps upgrade. But how come they didn't change my router? I was told that I will get a router replacement by the Unifi staff when they called and offered me this RM20 upgrade package.

I am using the Dlink DIR-615 (the white color one), the technician just plugged in the LAN cable to test the speed, it was around 90Mbps download and 50Mbps upload speed. Is it normal
*
That’s normal. The DIR-615 old man already. About 90mbps is also what I got on LAN. Actually pretty good for such an old router.
user posted image

On WiFi about 70mbps. More here: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=87190299

But not changing the router is not normal. You should have been given a new router, DIR-850L, C1200 or RGX4400. Normally they don’t exchange it, they just give you a new one and you keep the old. TM should also change your BTU to a gigabit Ethernet one. Did they do that?

Ya, your speed test result same as mine. My speedtest result using wifi with DIR-615 router is around 70mbps also.
But I just wonder why the contractor didn't change the router for me, even though Unifi staff mentioned about getting a new router. I agreed to upgrade to this package partly because of the router replacement / upgrade.

Anyway, i already lodged the complain through Unifi livechat. Hopefully can get my router change.

Edit: nope, they didn't change any equipment for me, I'm still using the white DIR-615 router, and the BTU is Huawei HG850a

I had exactly the same equipment as you before my 50-100 upgrade. The white/orange DLink and the black HG850a. Both are 100mbps Ethernet network ports so will never reach 100mbps. At most 97mbps. For my 100mbps upgrade, TM changed the BTU to a HG8240H and gave me a C1200.

My upgrade had a 2yr contract, yours? Even so I don’t think it should make a difference. TM should have changed both.

Mine is 50mbps -> 100mbps, with RM 20 top up per month permanent, and no contract refresh.
Not sure why contractor didn't change devices for me. Perhaps they want to keep the devices themselves sweat.gif

Definitely report to TM since they said they’ll change new equipment for you. When I did my 50-100 upgrade application over the phone, the words that TM used were “they will upgrade the equipment if it does not support 100mbps”. I guess that’s open to interpretation.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the contractors want to keep it for themselves since those routers retail for around RM300. The BTU is not really a problem, if they don’t change it now, you can always persuade it to commit suicide and get it changed later. The BTU belongs to TM and they have to ensure that you have a working unit.

Maybe someone with a no contract upgrade can comment.

Place the router upside down, problem solved. Unless it’s gravity that’s forcing the waves down then you’ll need a small piece of gravitonium. Ref: Agents of Shield S05E13.

But seriously, bro, expected a bit more from you. Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet.
*
I thank you for highlighting the bold part.

For the highlighted red part, I will watch the episode thou to acknowledge myself on how a gravitonium works.

Kodi...

Unless using quasar, all the stuff there r small files... u dun even need  half of 100mbps to do smoothly.

Assuming the addon and links r gud, of course.

I m not sure how bad upstairs will be with router downstairs with diff homes.

My own experiments in my house tell me i can still get 90% of 100mbps at 50ft upstairs with 5ghz.

2.4ghz will not be good... maybe 50mbps or even 20-30 at bad spots.

So, better use devices with 5ghz to get max juice.

With good devices, if u still cant get it good enuf, do consider a better router.
This issue pops up at least twice a week... do u wanna read the dozens of threads on the subject? biggrin.gif

Definitely random but always 13 chars alphanumeric when it's a TM system generated password.

If you guys want to make it semi-permanent. Use a CSS extension for your browser (I use Stylish for Safari) and insert this:
CODE
input.hidden {display:inline-block};

and it will always display the password like this.

Performed the Unifi upgrade to 100MBps, they call me today to ask me restart modem to 'upgrade'.

Just restart the modem.

Worst than my previous subscription which is 50MBps.

I am getting 23mbps max on download and 18mbps max on uploads.

Ps: using the dlink 3 antenna black router. forgot the model code.

Try testing using LAN. The upgrade shouldn't be worse. All TM does is go to your account info, delete "50mbps" and type in "100mbps". Not really but that's the gist of it. It's just a software limit.

Guys, need some suggestion here...

Yesterday TM contractor came and replace the fiber optic cable for my unifi and finally I'm able to use my unifi again...

Before they leave, I've tested the speed using my smartphone via wifi, under 2.4g it reaches around 70-80mbps, and 5g it reaches 100mbps...

That was sitting in front of my router though... But when I'm using my laptop on second floor, I run speed test from my laptop using 2.4g and the speed only runs around 20mbps max.... I'm staying in a 2sty house with about 2500sf built up...

I did some study, if I opt for wifi range extender, it has to be on the same power point line as my router in order to get it done, right?

What about if I buy another router and use it as an Access Point on second floor? If this is the better solution, any recommended AP or router that can fully optimize the Unifi 100mb speed on the entire 2nd floor?

Suggestion & advice are much appreciated from expert here~

TQVM~
