Hey all, just received my alevel results and they were not as I hoped (2A2B). If I'm hoping for a place in the dentistry programme would I stand a chance? unsure.gif

They didn't get the accreditation for my cohort. So we basically lost some of our loan due to it. Which was really annoying.

Getting slightly later is still okay. We didn't receive ours at all.  vmad.gif

Wow.... that's actually really bad o_O
Didn't you all complain? How was the issue resolved?

It's bad right?
We did. We were all so tired of IMU even before we transferred we still had some minor issues from our student services department.

IMU compensated us with book vouchers from MPH. Yeah. But there was no compensation for the 10k I lost from the PTPTN loan. Lol.

What do you mean by "didn't get accreditation for your cohort"? Were you one of the earliest med students in IMU? Was the programme not accredited (by MMC, I assume?) when you joined / graduated? How, or why did you lose your loan? What loan?

Sorry, I'm joining the discussion midway and I'm confusing myself with things. Care to elaborate on what happened (either here or via PM)?

The accreditation expires after a period of time, they couldn't get the accreditation in time when we came in to IMU. Because of that we couldn't apply for PTPTN loan. Due to this delay we had to apply later and there were a lot of hitch and bumps along the way in the end some of my classmates got 20k less of what we originally applied for, I got 10k less.

And no, I'm not med student, I have not graduated. I just transferred to overseas. smile.gif

Edit: Sorry I'm not sure if I explained it right. Haha. I have problems trying to explain my thoughts sometimes, hope that explains it!

Hey fellas I've a few questions:

1. Whose local medicine programme is better? IMU or Monash-Malaysia's?

2. For those who got accepted for IMU-PMS option, what were your pre-u results?

3. Is it true that IMU students doing the twinning option have to foot a bigger bill during the twinning years? (as opposed to someone that opted for the direct entry)

4. If #3 is true, how much extra are they paying?

5. How soon does one normally receive an offer from IMU after taking the interview?

6. How's the student life like at IMU?

7. Do PMS students entering phase 2 have to take the UKCAT for UK unis (and the ISAT, for australian unis)?

EDIT: Some context.

Just trying to graduate from an SMC-recognized university, preferably the cheapest route. The IMU-PMS (UK) option is more affordable than a UK direct entry option, but I've been having some doubts. Firstly, a few posts earlier, someone mentioned that IMU students have to pay more when doing the clinical semesters there. I understand that it's profit thing and all that but if the cost differential is too close to the UK direct entry option then I might reconsider my choice. Furthermore, not all the PMS options for IMU in the UK are recognised by the SMC (Exeter, Keele and Warwick) and I'll kill someone if I am partnered to one of those. I hear that if you're not happy with your partner option you can defer it a semester and you'll get a higher priority then (I think) but that's still not a guarantee.

Furthermore, I'm actually kinda set up for a UK direct entry option. Forecast is ok-ish (A*AA) and UKCAT is alright (2900+). IELTS not a problem either. The thing is, of course, it's a lot more expensive.

So, what do, fellers?

depending on which uni, it can actually work out cheaper direct entry previously, but with the appreciated quid, probably not so anymore....

only liverpool charge an extra premium for imu transfer students, afaik...

no need ukcat/isat....

there is no guarantee of any uni during matching....but put the non smc recognised ones last, and you will probably be okay....

if they want you, they will pester you to pay up the non-refundable 1st sem fees within days....

pms used to be the most popular stream....demanding the "highest" pre-u (actually a lowly aaa)....but again, the shringgit (and jpa not sending students overseas anymore) has caused the pms stream to become underscribed, and a drop in the eligibility cut off....

I checked up on the number of placements they have to each PMS, the figure comes to about 6 out of 60 placings which are to non-SMC recognised universities. 90% is worth gambling on I suppose.

With the current issue regarding junior doctor contract in the uk, I wouldn't be surprised if more international students from the uk are flooding back to sg/Australia.

I was always under the impression that working licenses are near impossible to get in the UK...at least it seems to be the case with my seniors

So they've voted for strike action, if necessary? Guess ball is in NHS's court now?
