Btw, no such thing as having a 'head' above the rest when applying for specialty training if you are doing AFP.

Only difference is they offer an extra PG cert during foundation years (self funded) and you get to choose a more specific track during for FY years i.e. surgical, acute medicine, medicine, teaching etc.

if you are referring to the academic foundation programme in uk, yes, there is a difference....just look at who can qualify for the afp, and the points needed to get in.....it's a different cohort....

while that does not translate into any official advantage when applying for ct/st, the fact that you have extra papers, focused rotations, and very important, good references from well known referees, will subtlety place you at an advantage.....

I have a question. When going for the Feb 2015 PMS intake, it's 2.5 years in IMU. Then suppose I get to go to an Aussie uni do I have to wait for like 6-7 months to start Aussie uni in Feb 2018?

Does anyone know how many seats does IMU have for dentistry students? I've only heard that medic has a much larger intake than dentistry.

1. the clinical component must be done at the parent campus for recognition...hence imu-pms to uk/oz/nz are recognised, and proven in the number of such doctors currently working in spore...(exceptions being new med schools not in spore's list, as mentioned above, and to include uws in oz)...

2. for some reason, they have specifically excluded canadian and us graduates, and insist the pre-clinical component be done in the parent campus...

3. the msian med school they are referring to are specifically in reference to franchise programmes, ie the former perak med school with um, after sheffield withdrew (um was forced to do so, to save the students already in the programme).....and the current aucms ukm franchise....assuming it survive the aucms financial collapse....(will not be surprise if aucms collapses, that the ukm will be forced to take in the franchise students)...

4. imu local degree is not and have never been recognised.....there is NO confusion here.....

Just wondering - does anyone know why the IMU pre-clinical phase is 2.5 years and yet the holidays are so short (1 or 2 weeks), whereas in all the PMS's the holidays can be as long as one month at one shot and yet their preclinical phase is only 2 years? I know that the last semester (sem 5) in IMU pre-clinicals is to prepare us for the clinical phase, but even with this out of the equation, the pre-clinical holidays are longer in many PMS's. Does that mean IMU covers 'more' than the PMS's? Or does it mean IMU spreads the content out and therefore spare time is reduced?

Very simple.

One, IMU has about 25 partner schools to deal with when setting up a "generalised" curriculum allowing all PMS students to transfer prior to finishing phase I, hence needing the extra hours to cover as much materials as possible.

Two, the majority if not all the PMSes usually have more than 2 lectures in a day (?those were my days in IMU... now probably 4? whistling.gif )...

Three, because angmohs are mad about holidays. Try taking away their summer, winter or easter holiday and see what happens.

Some IMU students in the 3 rd year of their medical studies in UK have studied some of the first semester topics while in IMU. That's a good advantage, is it not? tongue.gif

You either wake up early, spend time on the road, sometimes in jams, or rent in vista commonwealth and wake up 15 min before and walk to lectures...

Nobody can decide for you....

for dentistry, they only offer 65 places which include 15 international students and 40 local students.
for medi, they offer 200 places, which 100 places are for those who wanna credit transfer to partner uni.

Hi smile.gif

May I know if IMU have the practice of lowering passing mark for OBAs, like SPM? Can a student who failed Sem1 OBA proceeds to Sem2?

Also, how is the timetable in Seremban clinical school? Is it very hectic like a HO in gov hospital? Do they have mid-sem breaks too?

Thanks ^^

Hi, I'm currently an A-Levels student and will be graduating in June, hence getting my final results in August. Is it still possible for me to enrol in the Pharmacy course for the August intake? Also, do we have to declare if we are doing the 2+2 course or we can make that decision during our 2nd year? Thanks in advance! smile.gif

you have to choose your stream at application....

if they are not full, they do give conditional offers for august, subject to you meeting the minimum....which is a lowly bbb....

Yes, you can still apply on August. You have to declare that you want 2+2 or else they will give you full local programme. However, on your second year, you can still change the local programme to credit transfer programme, provided the partner unis still have seats left and you have to get min 3.0 GPA in all your semester results.
So it is safer to apply for credit transfer program at point of entry.

Best of Luck.
