Unlike Oz med schools generally charging through 5-year fixed fees, quite a substantial number of UK med schools

are still charging through 'traditional' differential fees sort of system, though it appears the trend is changing. cry.gif

IIRC Aberdeen med school changes from differential fee system to 5-year fixed fee system for years commencing

September 2013. sweat.gif

According to the leicester fees for international students, the pre-clinical years fees are locked for the first two years.
However, for clinical years, the fees are not fixed since it was not given an asterisk as below.
Ah.. Clinical years would definitely reach 30k soon. :/

* Fees are fixed for each year of your degree programme, allowing you to plan your finances for the duration of your studies.

Does IMU have past papers from previous years' exams for you to practice in preparation for tests and exams?

Hi, I would like to know if enrolled international medical students get to learn Malay in IMU. Does IMU provide language course? I dont know Malay and it would be good that IMU provides it.

I read from the FAQ in IMU website that "It is compulsory for students to attend a course in Bahasa Malaysia as the national language is used in both community health work and the practice of medicine in Malaysia."

Just want to confirm the Malay language course is provided.

That's right.

Assuming annual fees increase of 10%, and by Sept 2015 as you commence Clinical Year 3, you would probably be

charged fixed annual clinical fees of GBP 30820 x 1.10 over ALL 3 years of your Clinicals.

However, after pre-clinical Year 2 in 2014/15, should you proceed to do Intercalated Degree in 2015/16 and, thus

commence the Year 3 Clinicals by september 2016....... then you would probably be charged fixed Clinical fees of

GBP 30820 x 1.10 x 1.10 over ALL 3 clinical years.

Therefore, for international students, in a way....... it doesn't pay to do Intercalated Degree !!! rclxub.gif

Note: Cllinical fees commencing September 2014 is already GBP 30820.

Wow, 10% per year increase is real high and by the third year will be in excess of 41k pounds.

This Intercalated Degree, just curious to know why a lot of internationals do this degree. fy1 and fy2 is more less assured after graduation, assuming no unforeseen changes. Or it will make a difference to those who wanted to go for specialisation later on?

Limeuu, can F1s apply to a different deanery for F2? A friend's daughter is finishing F1 and apparently wants to go to a different hospital. Friend does not know if within the same deanery or otherwise.

normally, the f1 and f2 are a bundle, and the 6 rotations are all pre-fixed.....

but people do move after f1, sometimes they request a different f2 from their bundle, sometimes they apply to a different deanery....can be done, but can be troublesome, and also is disruptive to the deanery, as they have to look for replacement, usually locums.....

To my knowledge, not many internationals would do an intercalating degree due to financial issue and longer time to graduate. Doing an intercalated degree would help add an addition two points for application in fy1 deanery as I could remember, which could or may not help depending on how competitive it is. Most do it for the sake of pursuing their interests in a particular field.

it makes no financial sense for full fees paying international students to do an intercalated year....unless it is mandatory, like in oxbridge, ucl and notts.....

the extra 2 points in the fy matching process becomes important if one is eyeing for the afp stream.....

But what are the chances of going into the afp stream for internationals? Last intake was dominated by 42 from Imperial and I believe those with mandatory intercalated year would also have the advantage. Will it also help in gaining entry into the specialisation years after the fy1 and 2?

if you are good enough, have the max points from med school centile and sjt, you don't actually need the extra points....

afy is designed for channelling the creme de la creme into academic and research careers....of course you are going to stand a head above everybody else when applying for specialisation....

Re AFY, you would need to have published a paper at least, in one of the better medical journals.

you get points for that, but i am not aware it is a mandatory requirement.....most, if not all of the afy aspirants will have several papers under their belt already, i would think...

there is no difference in the 'cert'....it is how smc looks at medical training...

likewise, monash sunway, numed are not recognised....
