Hello guys.

I have heard in many peoples ay that they don't get a place in some of the PMS because their "work experience" and "personal statement" weren't good.

Does this means that it's not just us ranking them and them ranking us?

Please tell me what this means biggrin.gif

Thanks!

Thanks! =D Glad that's the case!!

And some more questions =):

1. How does the medical school rank us? Do they do this only by ranking the grades? Or are there any other factors as well? Like, Extra-curricular in IMU or the letter of reference by the teacher?

2. If I pass EVERY SINGLE EXAM in IMU, am I guaranteed a place in a UK PMS?

Thanks biggrin.gif

Ummm please help me choose/decide sad.gif

I have been accepted(direct entry) to study medicine at one of NZ's med schools as well as IMU.

I know that later in my studies I'll have to do residency/fellowship and from what I have heard England(a choice offered by IMU) is a much better place to do it than NZ.

If I graduate MBBS from England I think it would be easier to secure a place for residency. I'm not sure about my chances if I graduated from NZ. Also, graduating from England seem to provide me with more opportunities with my career and connections. Therefore, from this perspective, I think IMU is much desirable.

However, IMU doesn't guarantee that I'll be matched to a UK uni and the PMS I'm matched to might not be as good as the NZ med school I got accepted into. And NZ med schools might not be looked upon as that bad, so my chance in the UK for residency might also be there.

Also, I'm not sure if there will be discrimination when applying to residency/fellowship if they see that my pre-clinical years were done in Malaysia as opposed to in the UK. smile.gif

Please help me by providing some information/opinion about this!~

Thank you!

Oh sorry I forgot to mention that I'm in a special programme that the uni formed with my home country, which guarantees me into Med after a successful completion of the first year of Health Sciences smile.gif

Thank you for the replies smile.gif

Concerning the personal statement in order to enter into one of the PMS, I found this passage from the Aberdeen site: (http://www.abdn.ac.uk/smd/medicine/imu-students.php)

"Briefly, we take particular account of the students' academic record and progress at the IMU, but also the comments that the students themselves make in their personal statements and the comments we receive in a proforma letter from the IMU Dean."

I heard we don't need a personal statement to get into the PMS. Please explain what Aberdeen means.

Thank You!!

You don't need Personal Statement (PS) in order to get into IMU , whether PMS programme or local programme.

However for a typical English medical school or Scottish med school such as Aberdeen in this case , one of its  entry

requirements includes PS from applicant ....... whether by direct entry through say, A-level route or (IMU) PMS

stream. smile.gif

Here we are talking about 2 different entry requirements  by 2 individual medical schools ...... from  2

different countries ...... under 2 different sets of rules .......  blush.gif

Wow. So getting from IMU to one of the PMS does not only require grades but Personal Statement as well? cry.gif

Do all unis in the UK that are partnered with IMU require this? sad.gif

THANK YOU!

Also, I would like to ask about graduating from a UK university with a UK degree after 2.5 years in IMU.

Are we seen as an International Medical Graduate? Or does the govt. consider us as an international doctor?

When finding work placements in the UK, are there discriminations between "international" med students that graduated from the UK(eg.singaporian that graduated from Leeds) and us who have only partially studied medicine in the UK?

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply smile.gif

I'd also like to ask: is working in Australia or New Zealand or in the UK better in terms of financial gains?

What about in terms of quality of life?

Thanks! smile.gif

=( If I get admitted this August will IMU still let me graduate in one of the PMS? Or will things just balk mid-way and suddenly I won't get to go to the PMS?

When we get accepted into YEAR 1 in IMU, do they show us the list of the PMS straight away and say that they will guarantee that these PMS won't go anywhere and will stay till YEAR 2.5 when we get to choose??

Or some of them will drop one by one and by the end of my 2.5 YEAR only (eg.)2 UK unis may be left???

How can we know when the contract of each uni will end? That way, I can see which uni might not be there by the time I'm in the 2.5th YEAR

Thanks!!

Thank you very much Jckc and limeuu!

Assume that it happens to be what Jckc says(one PMS will drop one by one until like 2 unis in the UK are left), how would IMU to about allocating their 100++ students to such few numbers of PMS? What could happen?

Thank You!

Does IMU have past papers from previous years' exams for you to practice in preparation for tests and exams?
