you have to decide which of the 3 pathways you want, at the time of appication........and you CANNOT change after that........

it used to be quite easy to change from pms to local, but with the current intakes, that might be a problem now.....

however, generally, you CANNOT change to the pms stream if you opt for local......however, there have been some exceptional cases where some managed to get a pms seat, if they are not fully taken up........

Around 20 per batch, 35 per year. Grad-PMS are not hot at all, if only 17 out of 20 seats are given for one batch, the remaining 3 will be carried forward to the next batch, making the next batch with 18 places.

ANU only offers 3 places per batch while Queensland(around 12) and Warwick(around 5) offers more. ANU always get filled up during the first round of matching and this leaves you UQ or warwick to choose from if you were to switch.

And, I beg to differ. There's a bunch of people who switched from local to PMS but they were only given graduate pathway. Undergraduate schools are always fully filled and even if they have extra slots, AAD will hardly announce it coz it's a big hassle to send all your documents over to the said PMSes(AGAIN) just for you and it will be too late for you to get your UCAS letter as well. smile.gif

there are always a few people who somehow managed to get switched to undergraduate pms.....but as rightly stated, it is difficult as the transition period is sometimes very short.....

i believe there are more graduate pms places now, but is not popular at all......i wonder if anyone has ever taken the sydney or melbourne route......the switch is easier, as you will need to stay back an extra year to do the b med sc, and that is adequate time for change.......

for those young ones.....you all may be interested to know that in the original system when imc became imu and started their local programme, the decision of which stream was only made towards the end of phase 1......you don't have top commit to a stream when entering.....

I guess they do have to "lock-in" places for all new incoming students to the PMS's.

but either way many people have claimed to have transferred from local to PMS via the graduate pathway and seems a few of my batch mates applied late into their 3rd or 4th semester and still got it!

not saying that its good to do that, and try to see you financial situation in 2 years time. but maybe if the situation permits its could be a good option.

anyways hows the new system at IMU, with pre-clinicals for 2 years?

i have a question here...intended to pursue with the master pharm program...if i want to enroll now will it be too early? worry that the places might be full later...the counselor told me seats are very limited...is that so?i've look thru the website and came across with this
• Graduates of the 2 + 2 option may apply for pre-registration
training during their final year.
• Graduates of the 2½ + 1 option may apply for registration
with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain after
they have registered with the Malaysian Pharmacy Board.
Current information is available at the website of the Royal
Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, http://www.rpsgb.
org.uk
is that mean that i still can practice as a pharmacist in uk if i choose the 2½ + 1 program? the only thing i need to do is to do my pre-registration here and register in rpsgb? how if i fail to get the 2+2 offer? is it worth for me to take the 2½ + 1 as alternative?

please note that possibility to work in uk primarily rests with the ability to obtain a tier 1 work permit from bba......which requires you to have a firm job offer to be eligible.........

the chance of a job offer is much higher when you study and graduate in uk as part of post-study work arrangement..........once you leave the uk, trying to get a job applying from outside is practically impossible....priority is given to british and eu citizens......and unemployment is high now due to the bad economy..........

what most people don't realise is that as a foreigner, your ability to work in any country other than msia is subject to granting of a visa with no work restrictions..........NOT the recognition of your qualification alone.......this is the same, whether it is uk, oz, usa, or singapore......

just fyi for ppl aiming to go to uk, tier 1 work visa will no longer be available for new applications, pending further notice fr the uk gov. means that essentially, foreign trained medical doctors will no longer be accepted UNLESS you're incredibly awesome and get invited to fill a job position at a uk hospital.

right now, i think foreigners trained in uk medical schools are still allowed to pursue foundation year jobs (FY1 & FY2) as part of their training. after that, it's really hard to secure a position since you need to apply for a work visa. the gov will probably amend the visa regulations again once the economic crisis improves

tier 1 visas (general and psw) are both now closed, effective 6 april this year........

fy1 and 2 will continued to be available, as they come under tier 4.......however, at the end of fy2, a firm job offer will be needed to be eligible for the tier 2 visa........and that is possible, if one applies for a less popular specialisation, and/or has got good results (say, 1st class honours at mbbs) and/or has good references..........

facts and information relevant to that question is not in the public domain, and thus i cannot answer..... smile.gif

however, it is likely there is a selection panel, like any other university......it is never, and should not be, a one man show.......
