Can use Flirc USB as IR receiver on Shield TV Pro.
Work well with Harmony remotes..

Doubt that they will bring back built-in IR..

Ah forgot about flirc.... Will consider it once nvidia releases a new shield. Hope they release a new one with av1 and wifi 6 (hdmi 2.1 would be nice too for QMS)

To my pleasant surprise, NVidia came back offering to send me a replacement unit BUT (a) it can only send to either the US, UK or Singapore and (b) I have to return my current unit to its warehouse first, the closest of which from Malaysia is in Hong Kong. So all in I guess the costs of transport would probably be enough for me to buy a new one from Shopee (with 12 months warranty to boot). So not taking that option.

Based on other feedback here, I am currently using the USB port in Compatibility mode (I have a USB Hub and a portable HD plugged in) and the remote seems to be working well for the past 3-4 days. So that seems to have resolve the problem. The strange thing I have had the portable HD plugged in since a few months ago and the USB Hub since 1 to 1.5 months ago, but the remote control only started to act up about 2 weeks ago.

Ya actually if remote replacement then not worth since need to send back. Based on your feedback, it seems that may due to a USB port disturb your remote connection. Try to google to see if reset SHIELD TV 2019 remote control help up not.

Actually the symptoms you describe in your previous post is new to me because based on others & my own personal experience having usb device connected to STV USB port will only cause signal interference when trying to navigate but no issue in reconnecting after sleep. Also the issue will appear the moment any usb device connected to the usb port.
But this was on my STV 2017(w/o BLE module) & Shield 2017 Remote.

Maybe some new changes on STV 2019 has introduce new symptoms for the same issue.

That's why i didn't suggest that method to you & there were reports of some 2019 remote having hardware failure.

I spoke too soon! Right after my last posts here, my remote control started acting up again with the same problem. So it looks like it is a faulty remote control after all.

Rather disappointed with NVidea that the remote control becomes faulty so fast, without having been dropped. So don't think I want to take the risk of buying another one; for that price I would want it to last a few years and I am worried it may not.

So will continue using this one till I can't stand the work-around method of making the remote control connects to the unit. I mentioned taking out a battery and putting it back works; I discovered by chance that another work-around method is to repair by pressing and holding for a few seconds the Home + Back buttons until the backlight blinks.

You were right after all - it has nothing to do with the USB port. As mentioned in my above post to @jhleo1, right after my last posts here, my remote control started acting up again (2 days in a row now) with the same problem. So it looks like it is a faulty remote control after all.

Hopefully NVidea will come up with better quality remote control for its new version of the Shield.

I've been using the G20 remote from Lazada rm30ish on my 2017 shield and it has been flawless. Runs off a USB dongle. Works just like the ori remote without the annoying volume touch bar. Previously tried the Mx3 and that was crap.

I still got that 665, just tested it again but the button doesn't respond like it used to
It's definitely great having a display on on the remote so you could see current activity or if need to trigger help feature
That delay is something i need to adjust some more

I actually had a bunch of these similar remote keyboard but most of the usb dongle gone/missing makes the remote useless which is why I try to get the bt remote ones. Don't have to worry about dongles
xiaomi bt remote didn't work - just won't pair for some reason, i googled seems like other users also have same problem

The version I bought was without voice. So I dunno how that is. It also has air mouse, which I found quite janky so I never use that. But the buttons all ok. I set power to also turn on the tv and volume control is on the shield itself, tv volume at close to max.

I’m looking for that voice feature just for searching stuff on kodi rather than typing each letter 😅
That air mouse is useful for astro go app at least since astro just too lazy to release proper android tv app

Yeah, I guess you can try the most feature packed one. Worst case is just disable what you dun use.

Bro, since you're using g20 remote right, can help me check something? For back button, does it mapped to 'back' or 'escape' button? And for d-pad-center, does it mapped to 'd-pad-center' or 'enter' button?

The 3rd party usb remote that I bought to replace 2015 remote is mapped to 'escape' and 'enter', so troublesome. Now I can't type with on screen keyboard when using the remote since it is using 'enter' instead of 'd-pad-center.' The 'escape' button behavior also makes it hard to go back for certain apps lol

Btw, you can use button mapper app or key tester (whichbutton) app to perform the testing.

According to Nvidia, the Google voice search feature is not officially supported with 3rd party remote but based on my personal experience using G30s remote i'm able to use the voice search.
Not sure whether mine was defective or otherwise, the remote just can't 'listen' to some words like Exit, Sleep & Cancel.
Unfortunately due to my own mistake the usb dongle stop working thanks to heat..😅

So there is risk that the voice search feature might stop working at some point if there's changes by Google.

IIRC, 3rd party remote don't use same mapping as per Android TV apps.
Nvidia tried to add custom mapping database for 3rd party remote using their vendor ID but i think they had stop doing that because there are too many remotes & some same remote has different vendor ID.

In your case, Leankey Keyboard might solve your issue.
If you are using air mouse remote, then there is another advantage using this app where you can use the mouse cursor to type.

Only few media player apps able to support DV playback with specific format.
