EDIT9: Apparently, a lot of users complained about WAN IP changing the next day. This was caused by AUTO selection at router PPPOE dialer. Seriously, I expect users to set On Demand when setting up the router from the beginning. (This should be common knowledge, no?  blink.gif Who in the world use Auto?  bangwall.gif  ). Here the guide:

Do note the router with latest firmware still randomly reboot once every 3 - 4 weeks....... dry.gif

Using latest TM firmware here.

Unsure for UPnP, but I had it disabled and the NAT-PMP port feature on µTorrent still working, so it should works for Bittorrent too.

For the UPnP, I had it enable and saw many P2P software that used by my housemate shown on it, did it count as working or? hmm.gif

In Networks and Broadband and Kopitiam sections, people are very rich earning 20k per month and their screen resolution is 4k and above, so cannot use small image. whistling.gif

FYI for those using latest Time firmware available from TP-Link MY, the WPA password field only supports up to 60 characters instead of 64 mandated by the standard. I ran into this issue when trying to revert from EU to Time firmware.
*
Mine is somehow stuck at 32 characters maximum (the UI doesn't allow me to enter more). I would love to have 60 characters available lol.

On top of what prokiller1199 mention, I think in order for wds to work your the other router must also be using broadcom wifi chipset.

Btw you can also use the 2.4ghz band to create a wds with the EU firmware.
*
That is quite true

Currently using Asus RT-AC55UHP (Qualcomm Atheros chipset) as base station, try to WDS to the AC1200 but doesn't seem to work

Things that I've done:
LAN address - Asus is 192.168.1.1, set TP-Link to 192.168.1.2
Set WDS on 5GHz, connect to Asus' SSID
Set to same 5GHz channel on both Asus and TP-Link
Set to same SSID
Disabled DHCP on TP-Link

But unable to connect to TP-link directly

What else can I try? Should i try different SSID?
I am able to access the setup page for TP-Link even though I'm connected to Asus though

Before trying with different SSID, try the steps below first.

If you are able to access setup page of tplink from asus, then both routers should be connected thru WDS. Next thing need to check is if Internet connection is available thru tplink. Try connect your laptop with cable to the tplink lan port and run speedtest.

If Internet available, then your problem of not able to connect to tplink directly may be due to your 5g wifi signal from asus is still strong which is why preventing your device switching to the 5g wifi signal from tplink. Try go into asus setup page > advanced setting - wireless. Select professional tab with Band selected as 5 GHz. Next enable Roaming assistant and try with RSSI lower than -60 dBm. Also slide your Tx power adjustment lower. Make sure you click on Apply button below before exiting.

And don't forget to enable TX beam forming in tp link router. Then reboot both routers. Now check if your device can automatically switch from asus wifi signal to tplink wifi signal when your device is near to tplink router.

Thanks for the advice. Will give it a try later.
With more tinkering last night, I've managed to connect to the TP-Link router via 2.4GHz network (with 5 GHz as the WDS backbone) and manage to access the internet so I can safely assume that WDS is working already.

Just need to confirm, when using 5GHz as the backbone for WDS, I can only connect to the 2.4GHz network on the TP Link? Attempting to connect to the 5GHz doesn't seem to work.

Btw, I've also noticed a bug where SSID is not hidden even though the Hide SSID box has been ticked. Planning to hide the 5GHz network which is used as the backbone.

Yep that's true. I can connect AC1200 to my AC18 both broadcom chip but there is some weird issues like i cannot get ip address from my AC1200 sometimes. Then i gave up and use only one router at the moment, planned to make it an AP next time when lay a cable. WDS is not stable.

Bro, you have just proven WDS works on routers with different wifi chipset. I stand corrected on my last statement. Lol

Using 5GHz as the backbone, i still able to connect my device to the 5GHz network on tplink. Mayb you try the earlier steps i mention. If cannot connect to the 5GHz network on tplink, then try disable tx beamforming cuz in my case the connection was not very stable. Not sure why.

Why hide the 5GHz ssid in your tp link router? Isn't the same 5GHz ssid also present in your asus router which can be seen. I suggest you download the Wifi Network Analyzer app from playstore and use the app to determine if your device is connected to which router's ssid. There's an option there under Show Networks which can show all the SSIDs in your surrounding including the WDS SSID.

When using 5GHz as backbone, my devices were not able to connect to the 5GHz network.
On the other hand 2.4GHz works without issue. This is also why i wanted to hide the 5GHz SSID since it wasn't working for me.

Either way, I've decided to discontinue the "project" since I'm not getting much gain with the set up but it was a good learning experience. The reason I started it because I wanted to have better internet connection in areas where the main router is not in line of sight. At the moment, I'm only able to get the full 300 Mbps unifi turbo speed if i'm near the main router (Asus RT-AC55UHP).

Meanwhile, I'm exploring other options to obtain better speed such as upgrading my main router (eyeing Asus RT-AC86U or RT-AC88U) or adding mesh to my home network as WDS is relatively unstable.

Sorry that your "project" is not working for you.

Instead of spending money on a new router, mayb you can consider a cheaper option by pulling an ethernet cable (Cat 5e or above) from your current router to the tplink router and set up tplink as an AP. That would ensure more stable connection and wider coverage for your wifi devices.

VLAN ID already 600?
Correct LAN port at router?

Three phase power problem? Weak signal over powerline for homeplug?
Do those two homeplug sync properly? What is the link speed?

Router settings correct, i use preconfigured set of settings "malaysia-unifi", VLAN 600, at LAN 1 too.

Link speed around 45Mbps. As for 3 power phase problem? Im not sure, have to dig up, haha
