If you're trying to image a Ori CD, then make sure you get the SecureROM (or whatever CD protection the game uses) settings rite... Or better, get a no-cd for the game... Not that I'm trying to advocate piracy or something, but for Vista, with the myriad of copy protection problems surfacing lately (which KOTOR 2 suffers from too, it's the copy protect thingy that's actually not Vista compatible), a no-cd is sometimes the best solution for it... sweat.gif

owh shoot....i completely forgot about no cd patches lol...that should fix my problem

and i am proud to say i've never owned an original game disc before laugh.gif

guys, i am experiencing some annoyance with my 1210. the surface of the bottom of the laptop is not even. I only realised this today when I put used it on a flat table for the first time. Everytime I put my palm on the area near the touchpad to type, the bottom-right side of the laptop comes down. Is anyone else also experiencing the same problem?

Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Azel, all the rubbers are of same size. I finally put in on the floor and the problem is gone. Guess my table is not flat after all. But, if i put my Latitude D410 on the same surface, i have no problems at all. Think its the design of the XPS.

Porkchop, I tried on many surfaces....On some, the problems is not there. But on quite a few, it starts rocking. I also put my D410 on the same spot, no problems at all. sad.gif

oooh i tot mebe used for awhile the rubber wear down a little hence causing imbalance

if the rocking is minute it shouldnt be a problem i think...maybe the latitude has shock absorbers built into the legs laugh.gif

funny if it's not the leg then it shud be the surface...but then ur latitude is okay...design?..u mean the weight distribution not even then it will rock ?

Azel,

hahaha, the latitude has no shock absorbers as far as i know. the latitude's surface is totally flat, of course it still has the four rubbers, but they're thin. the xps' surface is not quite flat eh..

oh ya, any idea if i still can purchase the 9 cell batt..

today, i called up Dell saying tht i am not happy with my purchase as the webcam is horrendous, the media buttons are too small for me to press and flimsy, the touchpad is cramped up..in fact i noticed the thing was not done well, the chrome area has scratch. ermm..the lid's surface gets all the stains...so i said tht i wanna exchange it for the 1330 and will pay the difference. they said no..if i wanted to, they will charge rm80 for collection, and 20% of the price i paid for my xps as restocking fee...so all in all, i would have lost slightly more than RM 1K and would have to add another 1.2K at least for the 1330 which i sooooo crave for. It's not worth it la..

well...i'm very satisfied with my xps actually...no physical defects whatsoever....not even a scratch...the only thing im grumbling about is the keyboard, but just a little bit la hehe...but thats just me...as the keyboard works fine..i just don't like the occasional squeaky noise

lid get all the stains??...i thought with that kinda lid its harder to get stains?...i use a moist cloth to wipe the lid..seems to work and it's clean as a whistling.gif

yes i am a hygiene freak...sue me!! icon_rolleyes.gif

as for the batt...just call them up and ask for it...or u can buy online too if im not mistaken laugh.gif

nvm la...the xps 1210 is cool also what...got that classic boxy look yet still sexy and appealing..just lost out in technology to the 1330 only...personally i think the 1330 is cool too...but the wedge look looks gay lol

Added on July 5, 2007, 7:14 amIgnore everything i said, it must be bcoz im alil bit tense with the previous position that I was in, so somehow emotion filled me. There was a fault on my part too, which i supposed to give clearer proofs and stuff. I redo my effort with full co-operation at last they are kind enough to replace both left and right panel of the case. The main panel/main body has a super-duper tiny scratches that doesn't qualify for a new one. I give em that one as I myself would consider it is "too minor" scratches. In fact, i believe no matter how gentle one could handle the case, within a week of time or at most a month, people (or human haha) will somehow accidentally make those super-duper tiny scratches anyway. So far im happy with the solution. Hopefully i won't receive any defects/problems for the replacement panel but just a perfect pair of em.

I guess the solution might be:

1) Install the game (DO NOT USE THE "THING" YET)
2) Patch it up to 1.25 first.
3) THEN use the "THING" (and DON'T OVERWRITE THE OLD .EXE, just rename it)

And I do not, by any way, condone piracy... I have a bunch of Ori games myself (okay, a few), and use a no-cd for each and every one of the protected ones... icon_rolleyes.gif

I mean, what's with carrying CD/DVDs around when you only need it for verification? Stardock does not do that (neither does Introvision, and they both get - or will get - my cash!), each and every game they publish is PROTECTION FREE and they don't need the CD/DVDs... By hook or by crook, I'm gonna buy their Sins Of A Solar Empire, original, shipped... icon_rolleyes.gif

IF it turns out to be okay, that is... As a beg for forgiveness thing for the countless "ehem" WindowBlinds versions and Galactic Civilization 2 that I USED before... sweat.gif

I get what you mean, brother... But, well, you'll grow to love your classic XPS... It might not be as powerful as the M1330, but at least it's exclusive (as in not many people are using it anymore)... sweat.gif

And about the scratches, DEMAND A REPLACEMENT if you're not satisfied... If they say it's no longer in stock, DEMAND AN M1330! Its like this, stock or no stock, they HAVE A 14 DAY TOTAL SATISFACTION policy... And if you're not satisfied, tell them you're not...

Be loud, be brash, but above all, let your voice be heard!

If, that is, you're still within that 14 days... If not, you're screwed just like the rest of us (or at least, like me)... Cosmetic damage that DOES not affect the system's operation? = not covered under CompleteCover... And clumsy me already has a bunch of em scratches... That's why I cellotaped cut up pieces of the defunct screen protector (which NO ONE else should waste their money on, please) onto the palm rests to protect them from scratches... sweat.gif

And I'm seriously thinking of skinning at least part of my M1210 (Minii-Tan for short, ah more OS-Tan inspired craziness) when I can spare myself a little more cash... More overprotective loving... icon_rolleyes.gif

TO AZEL: I seriously LOLed at the "gay wedge" thing... biggrin.gif

n20nine,

if u have the extra money to top up to get the m1330, as ur m1210 already got such problems, why not u returned for full refund and get m1330. At least that's what i'll do.

As a lot of u guys having it, i didn't know that scratches (or cosmetic damage to be exact) is normal issue (I assume based on what u guys posts). I think I was being a jerk yesterday then. The scratches is so small (at most it will be like 5mm, no way it reaches 10mm) but yet visible if we look super-closely. At a glance, I would say most will just get distracted by its beauty. If scratches/cosmetic damages are normal issue, then that absolutely gonna give me a peace of mind.

Yes Azel,

I need to love my 1210 smile.gif Not that I don't..but you know la..sakit hati when I see the 1330..itchy hands smile.gif hahah, was talking to my dad last night about the upgrade, he said I should be grateful for my lappie - was a present from him and he said no use chasing after tech, after all, few months down the road, there will even be a better speced one. i know its true..hv to love my 1210, actually starting to love it slowly..its nice, just that vista was giving me headaches. but its now settling down...about the lid, yes it gets oily marks on it easily..i find myself cleaning it almost everyday sad.gif
am gonna call Dell once to see if I can buy the batt once I finish this smile.gif

Eiraku,

Well bro, I want to demand an exchange, but the thing is this laptop was purchased 73 days as of today (Dell told me tht yesterday when I called them). It was bought by my dad and when I returned to Penang last week only did I open it up and play with it. Dell does not want to buy my reasons. Oh well, but its their policy anyway. My dad should have checked it out. But will try to pursue the problem with some people from Dell I know. See what can be done, else the idea of skinning is a nice one smile.gif Where do you plan to do yours?

Derred,

I was seriously considering that idea. But when I sat down at thought about it deeply, I felt it was not worth it. My dad paid RM 4775 for the XPS. After minusing the restocking and collection fee, i will only get back RM 3735. Which is really low I feel. The 1330 which I configured was RM 5.4K. I would then need to add another RM1665. So, in total I would have spent RM 6440 on a laptop which can be bought for RM 5.4K, an addition of RM 1K. Just not worth it I believe. Anyway, nothing wrong with the 1220, just that I would miss the better graphics card - well, am a seasonal gamer, so guess won't miss much, 802.11n - would not really affect me I believe, the better processing power - its marginal I think. So, the additional RM 1665 is not worth it..hahah, sorry am an accountant in the making smile.gif

Oh ya guys,

Do you all know if I could remap the MediaDirect button as I am thinking of removing the MediaDirect thing, not really using it. Also, any way I could use the front media buttons for iTunes?

Anyway guys, thanks for all the support and help, appreciate it.

Good day

n20nine,

hmm yeah i get u dont worry actually im an actuarial sc major so pretty much i understand. I want to discuss further by lowering the cost that u can for m1330, but when i read ur msg about its a present, then i think u shudnt give it away at all. Its a present from ur dad, trust me it will be priceless and meaningful even compared to m1330. As for ur dad, he will feel abit disappointed i believe if u change it for a new one. He was getting it for you since 73 days ago, but when u come back u already ask for a new one. If i were you, ill keep it to its last breath.

Added on July 6, 2007, 11:13 amAnd for media button yes u can. Just Start => Set Program Access and Defaults" then use custom. The next time u one iTunes, check box and yes for using it as ur default media player. Voila!

derred,

Thanks a bunch man. It works well. Yay....
You know..when you said you want to discuss further on how i could lower the cost, i was so tempted. But when I read the last few parts of your message, I thought to myself, well, derred has a point. I should be grateful. Period. smile.gif Yes, indeed if in the future I get a new one, I shall still keep this, Thanks derred.
Anyway, am loving my 1210 more each day.

no problem. yup they money/physical value depreciate over time no matter what right (haha since ur accountant-to-be), so better just keep it for personal values (all that stuff). Trust me it will means something to you 20-30 years from now. As for getting the m1330, nah u will have a less short temporary satisfaction for like what, 2-3 years at most, then it will be like other normal laptop, outdated by other newer superior technology. Glad to hear u will keep it for personal value.

derred,
well the 1210 will join some of the presents i got from my dad..i still keep em..tough outdated..like my old ipod mini, my old ps2 and some stuff...coz they were presents and some my dad took the trouble to purchase it for me, so guess am gonna keep em for as long as i can smile.gif

oh well, 3 years time i believe i should still be with my xps smile.gif

azel,

hahha, not to say my fingers oily or wht..but sometimes sweat and all..oh well, wished it was not a stain magnet. nowadays i just open the lid from the side, try not to get my fingers on the top surface.

oh ya guys, i have seen lots of laptops with silver finishings..just 1-2 years down the road and the finishing on the palmrest fades. so i think skinning will be a nice idea..

regards.

Lets just say, it didn't stick at all... vmad.gif

Thank God it was only RM30, but it didn't stick that well as palmrest skins too... So I'll just skin it totally later... And where would I do the skinning? I'll just get some DIY skins (somebody's selling em in Garage Sales) as per my own design, and stick it myself... icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway, I'm heading off to Uni tomorrow, so I'll be more or less absent from this moment forth in LYN... I'll be back as soon as I find some stable WiFI to latch on to... So, it's been nice hanging around here, and take care guys!
