Konbanwa minnasan,

I don't know if this is the right thread to post in. Mods, I leave it up to you to remove or relocate this post. Anyway, I'm going to Tokyo in April and I have booked the Airbnb accommodation in Shinjuku.

The address was in Japanese so I asked for the English version. When I typed the English address in Google Maps I couldn't get the directions from Shinjuku Station.

All I got was 'unnamed roads' which is flabbergasting because I've gone to Japan many times and Google Maps is my Bible to get around. I don't know if it's my browser or if it's a technical error but I tried it for a couple of days.

Anyone faced similar situations before? I want to ask my host but I think it's not really her fault if Google Maps can't show me directions to the accommodation.

It is totally the host's responsibility to give you directions to the house if you can't figure it out.

If you dont want to share the address, try typing in the Japanese version into google map and see if you get the same route. Google maps work with Japanese input as well.

Which to book to Tokyo, Cathay Pacific or MAS? Both almost same price, Cathay is about RM100 cheaper than Mas but stopover at HK (just for 1-1/2 hour). Which is better plane to take? I heard MAS lately service quite bad. I took Cathay to HK before and their service is good.

Happened to me before, what I did is I view study the map from airbnb and note down street name and no. then manual search on google map put a pin or refer to nearest point of interest to guide me.

Noted. Thank you

I will most probably travel on August school holiday to Tokyo, any suggestion where to stay 6D5N for 2 adult+1 child? If possible walking distance to food/temple and sight seeing, I will skip most of the major attraction for this round. Will not travel far from Tokyo. tq

hi,

1st time visiting japan here. i bought ticket to tokyo (haneda) from june 1st (depart 2:45pm from KUL) to june 10th. i have a couple of question regarding a number of things

- what season is it there. from google seems to be beginning of raining season?

- i did not book hotel on june 1st upon arrival as i plan to explore the tokyo at night and try capsule hotel or manga cafe. any area of tokyo that are best to do so at night?

- also as i arriving around 10:45pm at haneda, i plan to buy suica or pasmo on the airport, then take train/subway to the place i ask above. are the timing ok or is it too tight

-on june 8th i plan to take overnight bus to osaka and reach on june 9th morning. explore osaka for the whole day, then depart back to tokyo on the same day, arriving at june 10th. any feedback on this?

So overnight bus to Osaka, then overnight bus back to Tokyo? Well, if you are the type who can sleep anywhere then it's OK geh, after all you need to sleep anyway, some more can save hotel costs.

With 8 sightseeing days in total I'd be tempted to do at least a night in Osaka Kyoto if you insist on going to Kansai, then at least got 2 days there.

osaka and kyoto are far away? seems like just next to each other based on this google map direction

Yes, super close to each other. For your trip I would recommend spending those 1-2 days in Kyoto instead of Osaka, because you already spending most of your time in Tokyo. Osaka is also a modern city, so it might be city overload. Kyoto on the other hand more traditional Japan, at least have some change of flavour a bit.

Wow ... you plan for three places ... good try but greedy is no good
I m doing the same thing as you are but I m by fly from tokyo to osaka then back to tokyo ... eventually not enough time for every placed... Even Osaka alone 10 Day is not enough...

For Tokyo night life, go to Ginza or Shibuya or Digital City ... this 1 day also not enough ...

For shopping pls visit GU (Uniqlo sister company)... it's cheap ... go to Muji store as well ...

Suprisingly a lot of korean visit Japan ... and of cause you will see a lot of cina made in China... pls escape yokohama chinatown (nothing to offer there other than many korean eating the expensive pau)

digital city as in akihabara? if it is i plan to do 2 day here as it was my main place to visit in tokyo

i'm going backpacking style so not doing a lot of shopping. i'll look around throughout the trip period but only going to buy things on the last day

june is fasting month, so i'm not going to any food related attraction.
