for me i usually start checking currency about 6-10 months in advance then change bit by bit to keep when it drops so i wont lose much when it suddenly increase again.
yen is low now if u planning to go next year and wanna change some to keep, i just changed about 40k yen last week.
*
i agree on this currency changing pattern...

i just changed 50k yen 2 days ago @ Rm36.23 for 1k yen rate...

i changed @36.45 3 days ago

where did you changed it

mid valley...

tbh...0.22 difference won't make much a difference unless you are changing significant amount of yen

Hi guys, I'm getting different feedback from my friend that is now in Japan.

Some say is cold, some said just nice. I was wondering what should I prepare to wear? I don't wanna overpack.

Curious on how many layer to wear on day and night. There's heater in the hotel, so do we still need to wear long sleeve and long pants to sleep?
*
everyone has different tolerance against cold...i’ve seen with my own eyes that 40-50yo aunties can dive into sea during winter when temperature was around 5degC...

to be on the safe side better prepare more clothes, alternatively can buy in japan

I did a whole day in Nara and then travel to Osaka for dinner (check out Kyoto > Nara > check in Osaka). Nara park is very huge with Kasuga Taisha, Todai-ji and Kofuku-ji within its vicinity.

As for Fushimi Inari, IIRC, spend around 3 hours there. Did not walk all the way to the peak though.

you brought your luggage along to nara...?

Hi, I'm going to Osaka with my wife and 67 years old parents. My mother had a knee surgery 8 months ago so is a little slow in walking.

1) I wish to ask if the itinerary below is practical (enough time for each location)? My parents prefer prefer nature sightseeing over shopping/city.

2) What kind of train pass(es) is suitable for our trip?

27/4 6AM. Arrive at Osaka Int. Airport. (Stay: Osaka)

28/4 morning depart to Kyoto

29/4 Kyoto

30/4 morning depart to Nagoya

1/5 morning depart to Takayama

2/5 Shirakawago

3/5 Kanazawa

4/5 to 6/5 Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route (Tateyama-Matsumoto-Kamikōchi)

7/5 morning depart to Nagoya

8/5 morning depart to Osaka

9/5 early morning flight back.
*
i think not enough time for kyoto and osaka unless your parents have enough stamina to sightseeing while day

Yo guys,

i still planning my trip. I will arrive KIX - Osaka - Tokyo - Narita - Malaysia.

It seems that flying from KIX to Narita seems more budget than using train.
Flying is around RM400 for 2 pax while train for 2 pax one way is around RM900.

Did i miss something.

Those who stay at Airbnbs, how the overall cleanliness?
Any hotels within RM200 budget to recommend for Tokyo?

Thanks.

Hi everyone, my gf and I will be travelling to Hokkaido next week, just in time for the snow festivals. Very slow paced travel to soak in the vibes and the freeziness of a snowy Japanese city biggrin.gif

Looking for any recommendations of things to do and food places to our itinerary:

Hi,

I plan to stay in Osaka and do day-trip to Kyoto for 2 days - is it advisable? I already purchased JR pass - I checked there is a bullet train from Shin-Osaka station to Kyoto station - takes about 15 minutes one way. So should be okay right? If normal train will take quite long. Anyone got experience on this and where is the best place to stay in Osaka?

Thanks.
*
QUOTE(royalz @ Feb 7 2018, 11:51 AM)
Yeah might go kyoto for 3 days, just that lazy move around with luggages. So plan to just stay in Osaka and do day trip to kyoto daily using bullet train. Not sure if anyone does that ? or better to stay in kyoto>
*
my preference is make kyoto as base and do day trips to places like nara / kobe, osaka can stay a night as well

but 7 days to 3 main cities...good luck

kyoto alone is very big. that's why the fella said wanna go 2-3 days, but didn't really specify which part of kyoto. maybe he is not planning to go arashiyama
*
based on his questions, this should be his first time visiting osaka / kyoto...that's why i said good luck..

anyways...it's his own money and preference

If he use that to book, he is paying a full Romancecar fare.

However if he purchase the Hakone pass, there is a discount when you get the Romancecar ticket. Because the Hakone pass already included train ride from Shinjuku to Hakone, but it's the normal express train. You can top up a little to the pass to upgrade to Romancecar which is faster and more comfortable.

The dilemma he's facing now is that how to go about this because he doesn't have Hakone pass yet but worried there's no more seats in Romancecar. So he wants to find a way to reserve the seat in Romancecar with top up rate from the Hakone pass.
*
i checked the booking website...in a glance you can reserve a seat without paying now

correct me if i am wrong

Hi guys,

I'm currently searching for my flight tickets to Japan (travelling in Nov). Tentative Travel Date: 3 - 20 Nov 2018

This will be my 2nd trip to Japan. Travelling with my wife (3rd trip) and kid (1st trip).

So far I found Singapore Airlines to be the cheapest option at MYR 4,366.30 (2 adults; 1 child). Do u guys think the price is ok?

[attachmentid=9614803]

Places that we plan to go are Tokyo, Kyoto, Hakone, Kawaguchi, Yokohama (day trip) and maybe Zao village.
*
how many days are you going ?
got kyoto in between...hmmm

QUOTE(sweet_pez @ Feb 25 2018, 09:52 PM)
Her first time? I suggest to let her slowly enjoy by concentrating on one part - eg Kansai only or Tokyo only. No problem if you want to do both over the course of 10-11 days, but best to let her spend more time to slowly walk, see and enjoy one part of Japan?
*
i agree with sweet_pez

18 days. Travelling on 2 Nov - 19 Nov.
Enough to fit Kyoto in between smile.gif
Will probably spend 3 nights at Kyoto. Taking it slow and easy as we're bringing our kid with us on this trip. Not going to rush on this trip else we won't enjoy it.
*
18 days...plenty of time, can even go hiroshima if you want
