Just thinking aloud, why those who are full time want to grab riders with MYVI or Honda City at RM 65 to RM 75 instead of driving as taxi where they can earn more than RM 100 per trip? The fare itself is a boost for driving around at RM 1.88 per KM.
During the HNYE , taxi drivers were making thier own time boost where they are asking RM 50 for less than 5 km ride to the hotels. I was there at Fahrenheit drinking and watching the riders getting in for their Shangrila Hotel and Face ride without even negotiating. Tarak tawar menawar tanpa meter.
Why would you want to spoil your car like that? Hire-renting a cab is like RM 20-40 daily for 4 years with NGV installed. After 4 years the licence is RM 20 a day I think. From there, you can abuse the car to go Genting la, Airport la, etc.
Don't forget, Taxi takes RM 20 flat per day and that's it. Full tank NGV is RM 10 a day and can net somewhere around RM 250-RM 300. If you can't find anyone, turn on the app, if you are familiar wait then wait for hail. Drive at your pace, drive fast, drive slow no diff. Got jam, no diff. All in the meters. Wind down the window and if not going in the direction you want, say sorry, try the one behind, unlimited CR!
I spoke to my father's circle of Taxi drivers, they were so naive. They thought taxi is coming back as business is picking up for them after the protest. Then I told them, "Uncle, your protest didn't do anything la. Grab taking a gun and shooting their own limbs. Grab drivers are cancelling rides because the company is paying them unfairly. People wait for 30 mins then just take Cab loh. July come you all can buy a house and new car already!"
E-hailing is great for part-timers and it should always be that way. That's why PSV was never imposed on e-hailing because you are technically "sharing-a-ride" to a destination. Basically its only for a 3-5 hours run, after work, for side income.
That's how you would want to make a living if you pursue a driving career. Whining about an app that is burning more money monthly than they are making won't change anything. They will continue to burn money until someone buy them out. That's the end game for them.
