I thought the so called "Global ROM" on MIUI forum was from official developer? And when they took that long to release a buggy ROM, that's what make me wonder. Did you mean there is another developer group that handle the official Global ROM besides the folks at MIUI forum? I'm quite confuse. Is this related to the speed the phone can download, process and display the content, rather than the RAM issue? From what I see in the videos, it is like Redmi 5 Plus takes longer time to draw the page content, thus, you were unable to scroll as fast as Mi Mix 2? Anyway, I'm just guessing.
Haha that is normal, when you carry a phone for video..your eye focus video.. I think my finger don't know scroll on border screen edge..

Clean meant less setting and less stock apps. All 3rd party apps was suck of free advertising. This is worse without mi could for sync and dual apps setup. So my A1 pass for my kid watching YouTube only.

exactly same like me. that is y i don't like plain android... MIUI for me is perfect except for cant resize image when attach to email.. like samsung TW ui, it will ask picture size to use for attachment
Haha this is where i am different. I dont fiddle with settings or customisations. Just use it as it is, as long as it works to serve my simple purpose. I prefer less feature and less things.

It was built by Xiaomi themselves. Buggy ROM is because their test is not extensive enough.
Go to settings: System apps - Security - Disable "Allow internet connection".
Now go back and click onto Installed apps - Security - Clear Data
If it doesnt work then if u want to flash china rom, first apply to unlock bootloader, go download china stable rom and the necessary programmes on a windows pc. Once approval given then wait 72/360 hours before can flash. Fir the steps, u better check with miui forum

bro so u able to flash back to china rom?
hmmm.... seem like what mi control the market from buying phone from 3rd party seller....
that mean new phone all need go thru mi malaysia liao?
I havent flash anything yet. Bought my phone in stable china rom. Just did the bootloader unlock request yesterday and now in 2 weeks waiting period. No plans on flashing anything yet unless a stable global rom is out.
Your case is seller force load an unauthorised rom. So your best bet is like what the poster said, return for refund or a replacement for an untampered unit, or if u wish to gamble it, request for bootloader unlock (if it can be done) and once complete the waiting period, to flash to china rom or global if it is released by then, or gamble with A1 aosp port. Either one of these 3 is still better than an unauthorised rom.

Miui is just too heavy for 3gb ram and midrange cpu. My RN4 with custom rom can go fast as your Mix 2. I believe your Mi A1 also that fast?
Would like to understand one thing - let's say we install google launcher (or any other home launcher), does it replace miui straightaway or it is just a skin on top of miui?

One of the phenomenon from MIUI is it closes the background apps after you open them without closing those apps, same time you open another app foreground. This is one of their optimization strategy but it can exhaust the battery and cause system resource management "leakage" as MIUI need to reopen those apps again. More bandwidth and processing power are wasted. Am I "right" on this deduction ?

I think not much impact on battery life. Battery life is similar or slightly better in Miui compared to other rom.
On custom rom, my phone can only hold 4-5 apps even though ram consumption is 2.1gb out of 2.8gb. not sure why but i can live with that.

To me , it impacted as in MIUI 9. Your custom ROM hold the apps in memory , when you switch between , no issue , as it direct access from memory. While in MIUI , it may have been closed by MIUI to conserve more memory , processing and battery. Thus, it looks more "efficient" , if you ask me , multitasking in MIUI not so efficient , do more harms than good , an observation , may not be entirely true.
