Hi guys, just bought a Redmi 5 Plus today but strangely it comes with Global ROM.
And is it normal to not having the Updater app pre-installed? My last phone was Xiaomi 4 and it came with Updater app.

Has anybody faced the "Looks like the ROM installed on your device is unofficial. Contact your distributor to get help" label on your phone?

QUOTE(andrewhtf @ Jan 20 2018, 02:46 PM) Officially global rom is not available. The last release was buggy enough that they had it pulled down 2 days after release. Many sellers who downloaded during that period quickly force flash the buggy rom and sell it as "global rom" units, which gave you that error message. There is a workaround method suggested in xiaomi forum but it doesn't seem to last and message pop up again not long after. Should I wait for the them to fix the global rom or should I flash it to China ROM?

QUOTE(andrewhtf @ Jan 20 2018, 08:19 PM) Try this first and see if it removes the message: Go to settings: System apps - Security - Disable "Allow internet connection". Now go back and click onto Installed apps - Security - Clear Data If it doesnt work then if u want to flash china rom, first apply to unlock bootloader, go download china stable rom and the necessary programmes on a windows pc. Once approval given then wait 72/360 hours before can flash. Fir the steps, u better check with miui forum Thank you. It works perfectly!

My Redmi 5 plus which came with seller's forced-flashed Global ROM updated itself via system update.
And it's stuck on Mi Recovery, being unable to reboot into system.
So please do not update if the system update asks to.

QUOTE(andrewhtf @ Jan 28 2018, 06:58 PM) Return to directD, ask for a replacement with china stable rom. I bought from mobile2go and when returned, was told that all Redmi 5 plus they have are already in Global ROM. And they don't have units with China ROMs.

Hi Guys, after 360 hours of waiting, I have successfully unlocked my Redmi 5 Plus. Does that mean it is safe to update OTA without bricking my phone?

QUOTE(JJKTP @ Feb 25 2018, 12:09 PM) I think you need to flash to the official ROM first. Oh yeah I forgot about that. Do I have to flash it through MiFlash or Fastboot? Or is it possible to flash via Updater app?

Flashed the Global ROM downloaded from the official MIUI site via fastboot. Guess I am safe to allow my phone update via OTA in the future?
