it's not quite that la...

for the experienced, curious and with the tools, it's not something that cannot be dealt with.

but for newbies, it's always better to get an unrooted box or a box that can be unrooted easily.

rather than risk it not able to do this n that, risk bricking it.

I'm very new in this tv box... so i'll go for the unrooted box for safety.... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

just found about dedicated AOTG for tvbox thread. good job guys

Thanks for the list as im new comer for tv box.

regarding tanix tx6. In shopee i found out one seller state its better to run in android 7 rather than android 9 coz more stable. is it true in term of running AOTG?
*
why go to android 7, where the android 9 can run aotg just fine?

inside android 9 there are more features compared to android 7..

tx6 with android 7 is so outdated.. i am among the first user of tx6 with android 7.. i bought it last year..

lots of fixes by Tanix on their hardware issue (static buzzing sound, HDMI signal lost when resume from sleep, etc) only available on Android 9..

I no longer see Tanix release any fix for their Tx6 on Android 7.. so hard to maintain 2 versions.. better stick with latest one..

bro, about tanix 6... since u hv one... will be good if u can clarify n confirm...

.. is android9 the common version installed for new units now?
.. is it alice UI or something else?
.. is it rooted or unrooted original?
.. if rooted, is there simple unroot option like tx3 or need to do something more elaborate?
.. does astrogo work with rooted version... or need modified apk... or must unrooted first... after unrooting, official version works good?

will be useful for new users, TQ!

Yes.. all new batch preinstalled with Android9. The Android9 was released since February 2019 if not mistaken
.. is it alice UI or something else?
Alice UI is flagship Tanix launcher. Even new TX3 mini is using Alice. So Tx6 has been using Alice since Android 7
.. is it rooted or unrooted original?
Original from factory is rooted
.. if rooted, is there simple unroot option like tx3 or need to do something more elaborate?
No option to disable root. Need to perform manual unroot (delete all superuser binaries)
.. does astrogo work with rooted version... or need modified apk... or must unrooted first... after unrooting, official version works good?
Astrogo does not work with rooted box. If want to use unmodified APK astrogo on TX6, need to full unroot first.

Yes I use Astro Go on a daily basis.. Why would I hang in here if I don't.. pfft.. Anyways, Yes.. I have done all these actions you've mentioned.. Several times in the past and after your posting. None pose any issue whatsoever to the Neo airmouse and or a good airmouse. I can just as easily drag, point, click, disable and re-enable the airmouse function with ease.. Switching back and forth even to the keyboard behind.. no issues. So perhaps, you might not want to blame a user problem on the hardware and or implementation. All drivers and cars can go from point A to B as per default specs, but it takes a little extra to be able confidently handle on a race track.

Lastly, my hands are steady.. And as for the old folks argument, there are none in here..So moot point. And I've always advocated to not give android boxes to the elderly. Especially ones you hint at.. If your old folk or any folk is that old and or that disadvantaged.. Please get them a decent IPTV app and or use Kodi's Live TV feature. Both allowing for smooth, easy directional button usage..OR my favorite.. Just give them the darn Asterruk decoder and remote. They'll live and breathe easier.  icon_idea.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif

Really? Wow. Can share the details / pictures of that airmouse? The Aotg needs air swyping feature. If that airmouse ada will be good.

It's the Minix Neo A2 Lite airmouse.. Most commonly/ideally used with Minix devices. As it's already tuned to their hardware. Works on other boxes though, just not as good. There's a hardware replacement named the Neo A3 Airmouse.. Personally, not tested the A3 just yet, but that should be the one to get. Don't just take my word for it, Google for reviews of Minix remotes. It should be listed under top recommended remotes.

If I may ask.. Why not try the much easier method that Puchongite suggested? Grab the modded apk and install that instead? It should save you quite a fair bit of work and near zero risk of bricking your device. sweat.gif

The thing with modded apk is u always have to look for the modded apk.. what if anyone no bother or no longer interested in modding it.. and then now we know that aotg app is capable of forcing update, whether u like it or not.. what if ur modded version no longer works.. u have to waste time start looking for latest modded app again..

that, i agree.... best to be able to use official, much less hassle.

if astrogo is not listed the box's playstore, can always install APTOIDE.

with aptoide, u can update a new version when available with just one click.

So far with the new version of AstroGo ( 2.192.x), despite the numerous subversions have been churned out, the older version remain able to work, and they have not forced any update. AstroGo only forces a update for the old 8.x.x series to 2.192.x.

There is really no guarantee in whatsoever with AstroGo. If Astro is determined to block access, they can perform checking on device models. When such is implemented, then rooted or unrooted, all unapproved devices will be blocked. I don't think unrooted boxes are any safer. But the real problem is only arise if people are compelled to keep up with the latest version.

From the sellers point of view, they want trouble free after sales maintenance. Then they should look at unrooted it for the buyers.

Somebody still posting to ask me private question about how to unroot tx6.

I will try to reply here:

Please search the forum. I think somebody posted about manual unrooting for tx3 mini. Use the same thing for tx6.

Basically you use root explorer to delete a bunch of files, and reboot after that, the box will be fully unrooted.

Please note that unrooting a box, require root itself. There is a catch-22.

So it will require you to sequence the file-by-file deletion correctly. If you deleted the most important file '/xbin/su' earlier than any other files, then it is possible that you would ended up in 'deadlock' of a box which is not fully unrooted. Good luck. icon_rolleyes.gif

That message is a little strange.

'Play store' alerting you for update ?

I never know play store is so intrusive.

If the app requires you to update, that's understandable. But 'play store' ? If it is play store, there is probably a switch in play store to disable this intrusive alert. Probably it's beta issues.

More than that.

Because some apk ( eg like AstroGo ) is super paranoiac, they could falsely consider some other things are root, eg SuperSu.apk, etc etc as root.

"/system/app/Superuser.apk, "/sbin/su", "/system/bin/su", "/system/xbin/su", "/data/local/xbin/su", "/data/local/bin/su", "/system/sd/xbin/su", "/system/bin/failsafe/su", "/data/local/su", "/su/bin/su", "/tmp/supersu/supersu.zip

They might even consider "/sbin/busybox" as dangerous. There is no standard.

I agree.. Personally for me.. I prefer & advocate for unrooted devices anyways if AOTG is priority. Regardless, I know my way around most unrooting techniques. I just prefer that those who blindly purchase devices would actually do a little research besides just I want a cheap box. So yes, buying a box that doesn't have you jumping through hoops just to get aotg to work is much preferred over one that asks you to.

I don't think it's the Play Store. Linked? yes.. But it's most likely the Astro app itself alerting that there's an update. The app has been known to do this for several versions in the past. And usually when it requests this, the currently installed app can't be used until the update is done. From Astro's and the normal usage? It's not intrusive. For those running modded apks, etc? Yes. But then, they know the price they have to pay.
