i am quite sure Q5pro firmware is same as Q10pro, currently 2.1.4.
they are unrooted, no need magisk or superSU app to do anything.
since 1.5 years ago, they can run astrogo, old or new versions.
in fact, u can just go to playstore and install it.
if there is any update, u just go to playstore to update or wait for it to auto update.
this is rare as other boxes need manual download apk to sideload, to update.
talking of which there is a new astrogo apk dated 5 sep 2019:
v2.193.2/AC19.3.2/0163930
get it here if u need:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/astro-malaysi...163930-release/
this new release supposedly allows decoder users to record shows on cloud storage, then access with astro go anywhere.

i already updated on my 3 boxes, all OK.
but bad news for ATV - it still doesn't work - judders on live HD channels like before.
can use v8.2.6 for now but come Oct 1, likely it will be killed off as implied on a message flashed when u launch v8.2.6.

Probably poor firmware or cooling hardware used..
I can't recall if it still does at this time. But no, it's unrooted and doesn't require Magisk Hide..

i am sure tx3mini and tx3max are both originally rooted.
there is option to close root under settings.
u need root closure for astro go to work.

i m not sure about tx6.
u can ask tanix users to confirm here:

yes, it is that easy if it has the option.

but u should check/confirm same exist for tx6.

i have tx5max which does NOT have this feature - need some app or procedure to close root for good.

and some report box goes blank, bricked... so... be careful if it does not have simple option to close root.

astro go football HD channels really really smooth?

the app will not allow any casting/mirroring to tv from mobile device.

i think the new app will not work on yr box. u can check with other users in mibox thread:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3561305/+3840
yes, smooth, enjoy.

BUT... no guarantee during high traffic matches... like eurocup 2020.

during worldcup 2018, the streams kept dropping from HD to SD... likely too many users, they sold too many passes.

New option for people looking for certified device that can play netflix HD@4K and live TV HD Astrogo at the same time:

1. Nvidia Shield
2. Amazon Fire TV Cube

I have tested beta and official AOTG on firestick 4K.. the live TV HD lagging similar to mibox..

no.

If the seller don't even know tx6 it's root or not & I buy, China factory is default rooted then I'm dead, cannot use aotg.

Is there any workaround? Flash original non root firmware to Android 7?

That is why i suggest confirming that with seller... some know, some dont.

Mind u, not all unrooted boxes will work with astrogo.... there is more to that.

There is work around... use some app to close root, hide root... flash to some other rom...

But that is for experienced users, with tools.

If not confident, just stick to the listed boxes that users have confirmed fine... just a few posts up or last 2 pages.

Thanks for the advice.
Later tx6 box arrive only i headache

.. is android9 the common version installed for new units now?
Yes.. all new batch preinstalled with Android9. The Android9 was released since February 2019 if not mistaken
.. is it alice UI or something else?
Alice UI is flagship Tanix launcher. Even new TX3 mini is using Alice. So Tx6 has been using Alice since Android 7
.. is it rooted or unrooted original?
Original from factory is rooted
.. if rooted, is there simple unroot option like tx3 or need to do something more elaborate?
No option to disable root. Need to perform manual unroot (delete all superuser binaries)
.. does astrogo work with rooted version... or need modified apk... or must unrooted first... after unrooting, official version works good?
Astrogo does not work with rooted box. If want to use unmodified APK astrogo on TX6, need to full unroot first.

Mind to share the steps to full unroot? Any URL link? Delete all superuser binaries

valid?

Somebody still posting to ask me private question about how to unroot tx6.

I will try to reply here:

Please search the forum. I think somebody posted about manual unrooting for tx3 mini. Use the same thing for tx6.

Basically you use root explorer to delete a bunch of files, and reboot after that, the box will be fully unrooted.

Please note that unrooting a box, require root itself. There is a catch-22.

So it will require you to sequence the file-by-file deletion correctly. If you deleted the most important file '/xbin/su' earlier than any other files, then it is possible that you would ended up in 'deadlock' of a box which is not fully unrooted. Good luck. icon_rolleyes.gif

thanks, will try it

is these the files you mentioned?

Install Root Explorer
Delete these files.
a) etc/root_access
b) system/xbin/root_access.sh
c) system/xbin/su
d) system/xbin/sud
e) system/bin/su

More than that.

Because some apk ( eg like AstroGo ) is super paranoiac, they could falsely consider some other things are root,  eg SuperSu.apk, etc etc as root.

"/system/app/Superuser.apk, "/sbin/su", "/system/bin/su", "/system/xbin/su", "/data/local/xbin/su", "/data/local/bin/su", "/system/sd/xbin/su", "/system/bin/failsafe/su", "/data/local/su", "/su/bin/su", "/tmp/supersu/supersu.zip

They might even consider "/sbin/busybox" as dangerous. There is no standard.
*
so anything SU files must be deleted. how about the sequence for files to delete? which is first & last?

category in directory

A
/etc/root_access
/system/xbin/root_access.sh
/system/xbin/su
/system/xbin/sud
/system/bin/su
/system/app/Superuser.apk
/system/bin/su
/system/xbin/su
/system/sd/xbin/su
/system/bin/failsafe/su

B
/sbin/su
/sbin/busybox

C
/su/bin/su

D
/data/local/xbin/su
/data/local/bin/su
/data/local/su

E
/tmp/supersu/supersu.zip

Different apps use different method to detect root, there is no standard, you only need to stop AstroGo from detecting root. You don't care if other root detect applications work or not work. Did hardwarezone says it won't work for AstroGo ?

no, they didnt mentioned for astro go
just unroot
