Singapore navy, police conduct joint exercise on Pedra Branca

user posted image

SINGAPORE: The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the Singapore Police Force conducted a joint exercise on Pedra Branca last month.

In a Facebook post on Friday (Sep 29), the RSN said that the routine joint contingency response exercise had followed "months of planning and preparation".

As part of the exercise, personnel from the RSN and the police intercepted and took down a simulated armed civilian intruder.

In its post the RSN said this was "testament to the operational readiness of our security forces".

It added that the RSN and the police conduct regular exercises to practise contingency plans for the defence of Pedra Branca, and also maintain a 24/7 watch to guard against intruders.

Singapore was awarded sovereignty over Pedra Branca by the International Court of Justice in 2008, while the nearby Middle Rocks were awarded to Malaysia. Malaysia has filed an application requesting an interpretation of the court's judgment.

The joint exercise took place in a month that also saw Malaysia deploy its first Royal Malaysian Navy ship to the country's new maritime base on the Middle Rocks, near Pedra Branca.

Some of these commentators have agendas. I followed UK defence issues closely for past couple of years. Tabloids like Sun or especially Daily Mail will drill in on some small thing and blow it out of proportion.

For example, the Royal Marines were kept in Afghanistan precisely because their Broncos were so useful, otherwise they would have been kicked out as land ops is totally out of their remit. Almost every gear the NATO forces used in Kuwait, Afghan, Iraq etc have temperature and sand issue, its a known downside of bringing their Cold War-optimised equipment to desert environment. That's why Arab variants of the same hardware have lots of modifications after all.

Another example is the hoo-ha kicked up over HMS Ocean being sold off. Ocean is the flagship yes but she is at the absolute end of her useful life as she is built to commercial standards. QE is going to replace her anyway. Its all in the plans. Just that the tabloids want to make a fuss... last week they complained the Broncos are being sold off, this week they complain its defective doh.gif

Exercise Lion Walk 2017

1st Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment recently hosted soldiers from the SAF11th Command, Control, Communication, Computers and Intelligence Battalion (11 C4I Bn) for a bilateral exercise codenamed Lion Walk in Linton Military Camp, Palmerston North, New Zealand.

The bilateral exercise consisted of professional exchanges and cross equipment training, including reconnaissance sensor and techniques. The soldiers also participated in a Soldier Strong challenge comprising vocational fitness exercises and clearing obstacles.

The highlight of the field exercise was a was 6-day field reconnaissance training, which allowed both militaries to share close-in and surveillance tactics, techniques and procedures.

Known as the eyes and ears of the battlefield, they move through the dense jungle like a panther stalking its prey. Operating deep behind enemy lines, stealth is key to their survival.

Watch the video to see how our soldiers from 11th Command, Control, Communication, Computers and Intelligence Battalion work together with their counterparts from the 1st Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment to complete their mission in Exercise Lion Walk!

Swift and Vigilant!

South Korea marks Armed Forces Day in show of strength against North

North Korea is being warned by the South to ditch its nuclear weapons programme.
While the South Korean president says reckless provocations will be met with strong retaliation.
To emphasise the point, ballistic missiles and other weapons have been on show for Armed Forces Day.

its them british they will keep using it until the end their useful life even if it would give them thousands of problems biggrin.gif its one of their "keep calm and move on" creed
the broncos were made for a very specific mission profile and the royal marines will go back to using their old vikings albeit with a more updated armor protection

The same design but with different displcement and armaments.

Egyptian Gowind displacement is 2.500 tons compared to RMN Gowind 3.100 tons.

Egyptian Gowind is equipped with 76mm gun & Exocet missiles compared to RMN Gowind 57mm gun & NSM missiles.

Lol I didn't know... patutlah doh.gif

Viking actually has a great combat record, mainly cause their tracks allowed them to off-road and avoid IEDs where the MRAPs couldn't. Up-armouring them would have been pointless as it would remove that advantage.

Two Navy men die while training in Setiawan, Perak

PETALING JAYA: Two Navy personnel died after complaining of exhaustion while carrying out physical training in Setiawan, Perak on Friday afternoon.

Laskar Kelas 1 (Able Rate) Mohd Baihaqi Nik Mat, 28, and Laskar Kelas 1 (Able Rate) Muhammad Lailatulman Mohd Sukri, 26, of the Sungai Wangi unit were taken to the detention room where they passed away.

The two were carrying out physical training according to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), the Navy said in a statement.

"They complained of exhaustion while carrying out the training and were given rest in the detention room.

"They were experiencing vomiting, exhaustion and shortness of breath," the statement said.

The two were given initial treatment by staff at the detention room and an emergency call was made before they were pronounced dead by paramedics who arrived at about 3.15pm.

The statement said that initial checks by the doctor on duty showed that there were no sign of beating or physical abuse on the bodies of the two personnel.

"However, we cannot rule out any possibility of the real cause of the death," it said adding that police were investigating the case with full cooperation from the Navy.

The Navy said it has formed an investigation body to look into existing SOPs and if there was any breach in the SOPs.

It said it would not compromise or protect those who breach procedures while carrying out their duties.
