Doesn't military lifestyle itself discourage spending of wages? As an outsider looking in, it seems pretty much anything a soldier, especially single low-ranking soldiers, necessities in life is provided for by the military (food, clothes, housing...). Plus the tough daily routine gives so little free time or energy left to go lepak2 or something like that.
Honest question: how does a soldier spend his wages in comparison to a civilian, actually? To me, the general feeling is it's as if a soldier won't get much free time or actually need to spend that much money on necessities anyway.

Not really that busy actually, paling lewat habis 5.30pm for a normal routine day and takyah hadap jem nak balik bilik
For a 17 year old, godaan besar.ada yang beli kereta la motor la,setiap malam makan besar sebab first time dapat gaji lol.ada yang setiap malam pergi mabuk.these are mostly kids baru keluar kampung and first time Ada duit memang beli benda mengarut, sebab tu time keluar military ramai bankrap, money management x reti
Girls are also a problem, they know military folks are stupid and have money.they specifically target younger military guys;ajak kahwin and lepas tu sedut kering.ada yang balik deployment savings account tinggal 10 bucks, anak2 bini bawak lari (regular occurrence)
For myself, I lived off-base and rental was crazy high.equipment pun banyak beli sendiri because issued ones are very bad
Kalau jenis pandai memang time keluar duit dapat simpan banyak, reality not many are smart and blow their money every month
