QUOTE(jovigrunge @ Sep 6 2017, 11:33 PM)
"You can think of the Snapdragon 650 like a Honda Civic with a small nitrous boost, while the Snapdragon 625 like an Accord. The Civic will go faster when the nitrous is engaged for that short while, but overall the Honda has the better and faster engine.

The 650 has indeed twin faster high performance cores, but due to the 28nm older manufacturing process and the lack of FinFet transistors, it will heat up faster and guzzle more battery. It will have that boost for a short period but a phone like the Redmi Note 4 wouldn’t be able sustain that level of performance for long without overly heating the phone or draining its battery quickly.

The 625 thanks to its 14nm FinFet architecture is more efficient. It can run at its top 2GHz clock speed for longer and without heating up. While doing so it will also not drain out the phone’s battery. "

I'm not sure why most users hate the SD 625. It might be slower but at the same time it's much cooler and your component won't easily hot, melt, hang or reboot. hmm.gif

To me, SD650 is like a 2.0NA Honda Accord (big cc old tech-28nm-, but not fuel efficient -battery-)
SD625 is like a 1.5 turbo Civic (small cc+ turbo -new 14nm tech-, similar performance but more fuel efficient)

USB Type-C for charging/data syncing
The Mi A1 may come with a smaller 3,080mAh battery as compared to the Redmi Note 4's humongous 4,100mAh battery but unlike the latter, the former ships with a USB Type-C for charging and data syncing: a rarity in phones in this price range. The Mi A1, in addition, also ships with a 380V charger so it can withstand India's varying voltage fluctuation needs.

Why Xiaomi Resorted to Android One, not MIUI for Mi A1?

Xiaomi recently launched its latest smartphone- Mi A1 embedded with Google’s Android One, instead of its own MI UI operating platform.

With this device, Xiaomi has joined hands with Google, riding on the Android One platform. Just to recollect, Android One devices were there in the India market and used mostly for budget handset phones, however, they failed to enthuse the audience.

Xiaomi Mi A1, which was launched at INR 14,999 in the India market, marks a fresh beginning for Android One, but why Xiaomi resorted to Android One and not MIUI operating platform this time. According to industry experts, the move is to prove faster OS updates to customers and also to add a security layer.

Updating existing devices, with device makers in the value chain is quite time consuming and so coming along with Google’s Android One platform would made the updates faster. The overall process goes like this, the android team come out with the latest release and then companies involved in creating the chips modify the releases accordingly. Thirdly, the device manufacturers modify the releases and work with the carriers for the availability of the devices.

However, with Android One, the most time consuming step where device manufacturers are involved would be curtailed, resulting in faster updates.

According to Faisal Kawoosa, General Manager, Research & Consulting, CMR,” Apart from other benefits like improved battery, RAM usage, etc, it reduces the cycle of sending updates to a user.  Since, security is taking the centre stage with Smartphones now becoming our financial and other critical applications vehicle, ensuring the device has the latest security version released by Google in almost real time is important.  Hence, shredding off UIs will help handset makers to be quick in pushing updates.”

Of late, the Indian government had asked about 21 smartphone companies to explain the methodology for ensuring security in their devices in order to ward off any data breach of users’ data.

Meanwhile, with Xiaomi’s Mi A1, Google will get access to now over 40 countries as the former has expanded its reach to all these countries.

Since Android One reduces extra work to push updates, the phone can be cheaper cause OS is all handled by Google.
And hes talking like stock android is better than Miui Lol despite Xiaomi pushing miui so much.

With stock android we can easily get constant update and security patch. no more pre installed unwanted apps or bloatwares me thinks. Simplicity is the key word here. hmm.gif

well not entirely i think...

For one, at the Mi A1 event, it was revealed that Google will not be pushing Android updates to the Mi A1 directly. Rather, Xiaomi said it needs to intervene because the Google Camera app doesn’t support dual camera setups yet. That’s why the Mi A1’s camera app is made by Xiaomi. This is a stark departure from the first Android One devices, where Google dictated what internals a device should bear, in a bid to control the software update delivery.

Yup fastest updates cause the OS itself is handled by google. It only comes with basic google apps. I had a Nexus 5 n really liked it.

ive read some article that the mi5x supports qualcomm QC3.0.
so i think A1 also support it.
but the charger it supplied with is just the normal 5v/2A, so need to use 3rd party charger la.

Because it's downgrade from SD650.

Wrong. SD625 is like Civic 1.5 without turbo. Because it's damn slow.

What the point of riding a Civic with a turbo when the slow Accord stop by the road only to watch the Civic with Turbo caught on fire? whistling.gif

I agree 625 such a bummer....ppl expecting after 650...we gonna get something better rather than 625...yes you can say 625 is cooler draw less power and so on...but the fact of the matter is its slower than 650...why many ppl hates 625....because almost all the manufacturer today use this chip for their brand new midrange offering....yes its not bad....but i ineed to waaaaait another years or 2 to upgrade my 650 to something significantly better like 660....or maybe another 3 or 4 year due to 630 launch...

How much slow is still a question. I've been using both and didnt really notice the difference on performance. It is not qualcomm to be blame, since currently there is lack of competition in midrange segment. They are competing on efficiency rather than performance, thus the reason why SD625 still one of the best chip for mid-low budget phone.

If your definition of upgrade is the improvement of cpu performance, then no other way except to wait and wait again. Actually I dont see why SD600-series user should upgrade to another SD600-series to get more performance. The real upgrade is should be SD820.
