The present hdd setup:

I'm planning to use maricum reflect to clone my current harddrive.

I'm also planning to copy the Lenovo Drivers in the D drive to an usb and delete the D drive completely.

Any word of advise before I proceed?

Given the price are so small different, the WD Blue have 3 years warranty and the Samsung Evo have 5 years warranty. For sure go for Samsung.

yeah time flies lol nowadays, kings in new ssds get dethroned every year.

hopefully they will be available after January 2018. (especially the sm series, which uses mlc, if they don't change the naming series so much)

no. the best time is always when you really need to get one hehe

this time around, they added a thin heat sink on the controller. it looked like samsung finally made changes to handle heat issues inherited in bare units released for the past few years. (when coupled with complementary heat sinks from recent mobos, you don't need to pay extras for good cooling anymore)

however, the more critical turning point for ssds is the release of models with qlc nand into market. these new ones will have very much reduced p/e cycles. (typically tlc is rated as 1k p/e cycles, qlc has around 100 p/e cycles only)

you can try to ask at the shop where you bought it from and see if they can help find one for you. previously i was aware of the missing screw so i asked. luckily they kept some, and gave me one.

alternatively you can look for it at repair shops at imbi plaza or lyp i guess.

you can (and should) add a proper heat sink to help dissipate heats from m.2 ssd, which makes it look much cooler too smile.gif

after some brief tests, i still prefer a pcie adapter with passive cooling heat sink over the much smaller one for m.2 slot. it's much more cooler in my system.

haha yeah that's right those basic dependencies. hopefully new machines will have lesser problems in near future.
