Hmm are you sure about that? Check your instructor manual to see if there's wording that limits it to specific agencies recognized by PADI Inc.. AFAIK it's at the instructor's discretion.

Yes I am sure. Not all are recognized. If we are uncertain we have to actually ask PADI.

Crap. Just found out today that I'm being sent on an assignment to KK for at least 3 months beginning mid March, may extend up to 6. So that is going to screw my Tioman plans for the SDI certification.
*
SDI their mothership is TDI or TRDI.
They specialize in their Technical Aspect of Diving part.

For recreational, personally, would suggest u go take PADI. They specializing in recreational. And they are more structured.
SDI wont teach u much on chart and table, they straight guide u on dive comp. But PADI teaches both... Dive Table (traditional) dive comp (modern). At least one fail, there's another for backup. For for equipment failure, its quite minimal la... learn more so tat your diving future is more bright and vibrant rclxms.gif

Yup, not all.
Its better check with PADI before jumping into decision.

Like NDL continuing journey with PADI which their "theories" slight different.
NDL is more hardcore! So when come to PADI, its more chill... biggrin.gif

Well you can do it at KK. It is so convenient, you don't even need to drive 4 hours to a jetty. The jetty at KK City brings you to the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Not the best dive sites and visibility, but what else can you ask when you can dive at a place so near to a big city. The marine life at the dive sites near Pulau Gaya or Pulau Sapi is rich, considering its close proximity to KK city and the pollution.

But why do you need to be specific with the certifying agency. Just go with PADI as it is the most common and well recognized. Which should be a top priority so it does not hinder your leisure plans.
*
No, no. Probably presented myself wrong. Not all that fussed whether it's PADI or SDI. Doing SDI because a friend is arranging with his friend who is attached to center doing SDI. I don't really care which one it is to be honest. Hahaha I will have look-see in KK. How much should I be expecting to pay in KK? This one in Tioman, I'm paying 1.1k.

Meh I think dive tables are irrelevant for the modern scuba diver. It's just like the buku sifir we used for secondary school math. The only reason you would want to learn them today is if you wanted to be a scuba hipster and dive vintage-style with a depth gauge and dive watch laugh.gif

My agency teaches a super simple rule of thumb for planning NDL (for the first dive). You get 30 minutes at 30 meters, using 32%. Every 3 meters shallower gives you an extra 10 minutes.

Can't tell about the price. For course only I'd say it is on the cheap side, but I guess more or less around that range.
Then you have to add your accommodation and food + drinks also.
And it shouldn't be primary concern as you will be learning skills for your own safety.
I didn't do my course in KK. Only fun dives. Day trip about RM300+ for 3 dives. This was with Scuba Junkie.
You can shop around at the dive shops at Wisma Sabah..there's one row of dive shops there.

All in for tat budget = Tioman, Perhentian Kecil.
Redang possible but now is low season, rough sea, not easy to learnt during rough sea. And pricing will be slightly over...

Now is low season for Tioman, Perhentian, Redang, Tenggol that side. Coz sea condition not so good. also depend on luck also...

Lets try to estimate your expenses.
Return bus to Mersing : 70
Return ferry to Tioman : 90
1 meal = RM20x9 for 3d2n= 180
This is an estimated cost left for course 1300
With this budget its still possible to get a package. Where are base at?

demetrius can chime in on that.

I'll add that scuba diving might give you motivation to get fitter.. For me it was one of the main reasons i started strength training!

No problem than. But be more conservative in diving profiles compared to others.
