QUOTE(EvanSoon @ Feb 23 2018, 10:38 PM) It all depends on the instructor but mostly people say SDI teaches you less items compared to other agencies. But in terms of being recognised all over, it’s good? Ehat I mean say if go for holiday in Maldives or Raja Ampat, Komodo, Weh for example, I would be able to use the certification for dives? |

QUOTE(wKkaY @ Feb 24 2018, 05:48 PM) In theory, there's no drawbacks since SDI and PADI are both members of the WRSTC which sets common standards, and courses are cross-agency recognized. What's your course itinerary like? QUOTE(wKkaY @ Feb 24 2018, 05:51 PM) Great, will cancel my Visa and Amex then. Hahahaha. Will check with my friend what the schedule is like. The plan is to go to Tioman from 19/4 to 22/4 to do it all. Will ask my friend for the specifics. |

QUOTE(EvanSoon @ Feb 26 2018, 04:37 PM) Let us know the course structure and we will give you our 2 cents. Crap. Just found out today that I'm being sent on an assignment to KK for at least 3 months beginning mid March, may extend up to 6. So that is going to screw my Tioman plans for the SDI certification. Not sure if RAID is recognized widely like SSI/PADI/NAUI/SDI. They are quite new to the shores of Malaysia. |

QUOTE(2387581 @ Feb 27 2018, 02:16 PM) Well you can do it at KK. It is so convenient, you don't even need to drive 4 hours to a jetty. The jetty at KK City brings you to the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Not the best dive sites and visibility, but what else can you ask when you can dive at a place so near to a big city. The marine life at the dive sites near Pulau Gaya or Pulau Sapi is rich, considering its close proximity to KK city and the pollution. No, no. Probably presented myself wrong. Not all that fussed whether it's PADI or SDI. Doing SDI because a friend is arranging with his friend who is attached to center doing SDI. I don't really care which one it is to be honest. Hahaha I will have look-see in KK. How much should I be expecting to pay in KK? This one in Tioman, I'm paying 1.1k.But why do you need to be specific with the certifying agency. Just go with PADI as it is the most common and well recognized. Which should be a top priority so it does not hinder your leisure plans. |

Got my SDI Open Water done over the past weekend on Sapi Island. Woohoo! I had fun. Looking forward to more dives after this. By the way, what should I be looking to pay if I want to more dives?

QUOTE(ghostshell @ Apr 3 2018, 09:26 AM) i see I was quoted 270 for 3 dives here in KK so far. Am thinkinf of doing some dives here before attempting any in the Sampoerna area.i think maybe TS of this thread can consider addon which telco available for malaysia island is time to buy your own gear if leisure dive, u need pay for gear rental, room, and number of dive, also if u go alone might need pay more... |

I think I'm feeling a bit of vertigo. No severe headaches or anything like that. I walk fine, I hear fine but I do feel like the world is twirling a bit every now and then. Was fine on the day of dive, Monday and Tuesday. Only yesterday I started really feeling it also with a slight headache. No bouts of vomiting or anything like that. I'm flying back to KL today for a vacation to Laos on Friday. Should I go see the doctor or something to check my ears?

I went to a clinic near my hotel before I went to the airport for my flight back to KL. Coincidentally, doc is a DAN certified doctor, also has AOW certification. Doc checked my ears and said nothing wrong. Just gave me some meds to help with bloog circulation. Hopefully everything resolves itself so I can go on lepas sure dives once I get back to KK.

QUOTE(ukiya @ Apr 12 2018, 02:20 PM) QUOTE(wKkaY @ Apr 12 2018, 03:41 PM) I'm not sure where you are now, but if you're around PJ feel free to join me in the pool this Saturday for some practice Am currently based in KK for the next 3 months, maybe 6. Even before I went on the OW course I already had tickets to go for Acheh in July. Was then, targeting to go to Weh to snorkel. Hahaha. If I think I'm familiar with diving further on, I may be interested in trying a dive there. If not, then back to snorkelling. Was also aiming to to Sempoerna since it's already close to KK but yeah if OK with it, dive. If not then just snorkel. Hahaha. It's good to build up experience before going for more expensive and further trips. At this point you're mainly going to be concerned over yourself. Over time your situational awareness will expand to your gear, buddies, and surroundings. Was aiming to do some dives here in KK to familiarize a bit. |

QUOTE(ukiya @ Apr 13 2018, 01:58 PM) Weh currents can be crazy. Some site can be quite dangerous. Yeah. Did read about the currents in Indnesia being a different kettle of fish. Like I said, will only do it if I feel comfortable. Just that it is a coincidence that I am going to this diveable places in the upcoming months. Bought my tickets even before I decided to go and take my OW.Be careful which moon u go. As moon influence the tides and sea currents. |

QUOTE(wKkaY @ Apr 13 2018, 08:49 PM) That's nice man, if i were to live somewhere like that i would literally go out to dive every weekend The only plan is to do that leisure dive on Labour Day at the moment. As tempted as I am to go for a dive every week, it's not a cheap sport. Hahahaha.Am thinking of flying off to Tawau/Semporna this Friday to Monday to escape a department meeting. So, so, so tempted to go do a dive there but yeah, I need to know my limits. |

QUOTE(2387581 @ Apr 16 2018, 11:16 AM) Just be mindful of your no fly time. Taking road trip KK-Semporna is a PITA though. Basically all road trips between cities/towns in Sabah. The road conditions are less than basic. Yeah. I doubt that I will go dive though considering that my only diving experience is during the OW. Would be to soon for Semporna waters wouldn't you think? |

I just bought a flight from KK to Tawau for mid May as it was fairly cheap. Any recommended contacts in Tawau? What prices should I be looking at?

QUOTE(ericcc @ Apr 30 2018, 08:59 AM) you can try Scuba Junkie Semporna, prices reasonable, Semporna nice to hang out and have banana milkshakes. If your budget is higher then you can go SJ Mabul or any of the DC there. I've done Sphere Divers (pretty good) and Seaventures (if your budget allows, this is a good experience) Yeah, I just bought the ticket on a whim to be honest. Never crossed my mind that the dives there would be that costly. Oh, well I can try other places maybe or just go island hopping or snorkelling. |
