For me i think its better to have separate. AXA covers diving but they dont pay at the hospital directly. You have to pay first than claim.

From my reading, Dive Assure sounds better than DAN. Global coverage, and they are primary insurance cover. I have neither. On trips i buy AXA, it sounds alright, but yea have to pay first. But i did call them up, they might make exceptions if you call them up at time of emergency. That's what their Customer service said. Reality? dunno yet.

In theory, there's no drawbacks since SDI and PADI are both members of the WRSTC which sets common standards, and courses are cross-agency recognized.

What's your course itinerary like?

Great, will cancel my Visa and Amex then. Hahahaha.

Will check with my friend what the schedule is like. The plan is to go to Tioman from 19/4 to 22/4 to do it all. Will ask my friend for the specifics.

you can go for RAID too. I actually like their app, and the materials will be accessible even after the course. all softcopy.

Not sure if RAID is recognized widely like SSI/PADI/NAUI/SDI.
They are quite new to the shores of Malaysia.

RAID recognized by WRSTC but only US Council.
1 dive center decline my friends to dive with them because they do not recognise ITDA certification.

So to be safe better choose well known certification agency.
I think PADI NAUI SSI SDI is good enough

If you have a card like that I guess you need to call/email the dive center ahead and ask if your agency is recognized.. If it isn't just dive somewhere else ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But even it's a frequent problem, you can do your cont ed courses with one of the mainstream agencies. The later cards usually supercede the earlier ones.

That's good. I think I've forgotten most of the stuff I learned in PADI rescue, and I have no way to access the notes anymore sad.gif

Not all agencies recognize each other. I dont know if you can continue your education from RAID to PADI.

It does recognize in another way.

However, scuba dive agencies getting more n more... Refer this LINK for the 95% completed numbers of agency on Earth... 5% remaining unknown or they rather too small to take note of...

But not sure if they recognize for continuing education. PADI don't recognize every certifying agency. Not sure about other agencies if they recognize RAID.

Hmm are you sure about that? Check your instructor manual to see if there's wording that limits it to specific agencies recognized by PADI Inc.. AFAIK it's at the instructor's discretion.

Crap. Just found out today that I'm being sent on an assignment to KK for at least 3 months beginning mid March, may extend up to 6. So that is going to screw my Tioman plans for the SDI certification.

Well you can do it at KK. It is so convenient, you don't even need to drive 4 hours to a jetty. The jetty at KK City brings you to the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Not the best dive sites and visibility, but what else can you ask when you can dive at a place so near to a big city. The marine life at the dive sites near Pulau Gaya or Pulau Sapi is rich, considering its close proximity to KK city and the pollution.

But why do you need to be specific with the certifying agency. Just go with PADI as it is the most common and well recognized. Which should be a top priority so it does not hinder your leisure plans.
