Holly Fvck !! I am SHOCKED !!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Well, if Warners think the replication cost and issues are not significant to throw their exclusive support to BD well all the best. Hopefully the prices of BD players will continue to drop and technology continue to improves.

now waiting for the revised HD DVD CES press con !!

announcing the decision five months before time ... hehehe something fishy here. Might as well as stop HD DVD support immediately.

still extremely dissappointed at Warners though. Well i can now scrap my plan to get a hidef TV now biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

g5sim,

The replication cost will eventually come down. But that's not the whole point. Considering the hidef market after replacing dvd as the mainstream media content, its next to nothing. WB did not bite any candy dangled in front of them. They are more to lose if they sided with the wrong camp.

What was worrying that sales of DVD dropped despite strong box-office showings. Sales of DVDs has a strong relation how well it does in box office. Recent sales data of DVD has been contradicting with performances in box office. It was worrying.

It has come to light, many held off DVD purchases to sit out the format war. They wanted to buy the movie in hidef, once and for all, but since there is no clear choice, they waited.

Also, those had already decided to go hidef route anyhow, also sitting out until the dust settles.

This confusion is killing both SD DVD and HD.

i am afraid that the hidef will die out because if HD DVD becomes the value added feature for DVD. There are ONLY to replicators of BD50 at the moment. BD is not ready for prime time!

WB bit the candy dangling infront of them. Well after FOX bit theirs biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

People DO NOT held off hidef purchase because of the format war. It is because of the high price. DVD sales shrink is because there are plenty of other movie watching options. such as digital download. And people especially the US people no longer trust media (TV) as they used to. This affected their purchase of media (DVD included).

and if Toshiba and MS is adamant to keep HD DVD as the replacement for DVD. They will no doubt in mind, get Disney and Liongs Gate to be HD DVD exclusive by all means! The FOX ship has sailed the BD way.

I blame Toshiba and MS for being over confident on warner bros !! vmad.gif vmad.gif

And despite all that sales of BD movies far outsells HDDVD at a ratio of at least 2:1. I'm sure there'll be more BD replicators over time. tongue.gif

g5sim, I hope you can appreciate the fact that standalone hidef players has come down dramatically. Toshiba's entry player was selling for USD99. I dont think u can say its expensive. HiDef titiles now are previously price held by DVDs. So its not expensive either. Regarding other movie options that is debatable and trusting media in regards to purchasing DVD, I really lost u there. I never considered media to be my purchasing decision. Kindly enlighten me in this matter. Share me with your thoughts.

I do agree HDDVD is evolutionary product and BD being a revolutionary product short of gold.

I believe Toshiba and Microsoft did the best they could to sway things their side. I won't think they were over confident. It's just that the majority of the industry knows best.

Regarding, WB bit the carrot, I don't think hyprocrisy is the part of the evaluation.

Paramount bit the carrot, FOX bit the carrot (again) and WB followed FOX wink.gif

as per the US people no longer trust Media as they used too part: this has to do with the over growing popularity of Critidal Discourse after the Bush - FOX scandal and how US people were exposed to the tactic used by FOX to drive US citizens to believe Bush's war rythorics that started the Irag invasion. And how Bush won the presidential election through Fox. wink.gif

higher price is also a problem with BD - the problem will continue in the foreseeable future. BDA made it abundantly clear that they are in the business to sell expensive hardware to rip maximum profit! The cheaper players sold below $300 are 1.0 players that retailers are eager to sell anticipating profile 1.1 and 2.0 BD players that will be announced during CES. I believe we will not see any BD 2.0 players at > $500.

Please don't get too emotional about this.

Im amazed how many non related excuses people can come up with. He brought up higher priced BD players as an inferior thing, still majority is going blu. I don't know what kind of point he is trying to make, this is really suicidal attempt from his part.

how difficult is to understand that not everyone needs 1080i? getting 1080p is a waste of money for these people! It was BD's hindsight that caused this mess because they wanted to look for superior spec wise

i said in my post that Bush and FOX's action had dramatically reduced the masses trust in media! When people do not trust the media, they do not consume media. I have been without a TV for several years and depend on internet almost solely for news instead of watching RTM n TV3 news or reading the star or nst!

Yeah i Dont see why you want to trust the media in order to Buy DVDs. And vice versa.

You alleged BD players are expensive still majority favour BD.

Regarding 1080i/1080p, u said people dont need it and just waste of money. Are you in the correct forum, i think u should be in SD DVD forum. We are here talking HIGH DEFINITION

And I dont want to be harsh to you, you might be just kid, but let me tell you a little secret - HD DVD just didnt sell well although they had Transformers and Bourne Ultimatum on their side. They just didnt sell that well with their much cheaper HDDVD players compared to more EXPENSIVE BD player. '300' a dual format title had been out-blued by BD. The only good thing abt HDDVD are the features (PIP, extras, interactive, etc.) and cheaper players. And still they are out-blued. You have to understand, all business no matter what, are in to make money. Consumers and the industry wants a viable format to have a long life span for their investments.

If you could start to think why is this happening.... All your worries and anxiety right now is soothed

Blu-ray or HD-DVD dosent matter... Both capable of displaying quite remarkable picture... lets see how consumer will react and affect the buying decision as Blu replacing SD DVDs...

what matter to me most is HBR (Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA).. Bit-to-Bit identical to master audio is superb...

So, even Blu winning, the HD audio format still the same right? coz im gonna make a heavy purchase on my av equipments to 'future-proof' myself..
