How on eaeth Cout is priced only at £72m?? With rhe xurrent market he should be at least £120m.
*
Damn inflated the price these days. We sold Suarez who is much better than Coutinho for 70mil. Imagine we kept him for more 1 season!

I like Spurs' chief Daniel Levy's good sense and courage. The current spending in the market does not make business sense any more and is not sustainable any more. Unless there are hidden motives, it is completely unsustainable.

Low to no returns and super heavy debts!

While it makes sense, it's more of a case of sour grape I think...

If we have bottomless pit backed by petrol daddies, I think I couldnt care less if we sign Keita for 80m or 800m. But as things stand, this crazy splurge really makes life for clubs like ours which still wish to grow organically tough.

80m for keïta is still better than 4x "markovic" for 20m each. But in the past we prefer quantity over quality, it's time for some changes...

Squad List for upcoming friendly matches at Germany (Hertha Berlin, Audi Cup)

Karius, Clyne, Wijnaldum, Lovren, Milner, Firmino, Coutinho, Salah, Gomez, Henderson, Sturridge, Grujic, Klavan, Moreno, Mane, Lallana, Mignolet, Can, Robertson, Origi, Ings, Solanke, Matip, Flanagan, Kent, Ward, Ejaria, Woodburn, Alexander-Arnold, Grabara.

Time to see whether Klopp put Salah and Mane on both wings.

I can understand the logic behind that investment strategy though. Never put all eggs into one basket.

1 80m keita bad, 80m considered gone; 4 markovics, 1 turns out well, 1 average, 2 rubbishes, still can get back good returns.

But then seriously, expensive doesnt necessarily mean quality... One thing for sure is that it means higher risk. For us, it's of being trolled by arch rivals' fans. biggrin.gif

We'll definitely see both of them starting together, that has to be the plan. But I think our 4-3-3 would look like 4-2-2-2, which is good, because with the obsession of 3 CB's, it would give us some advantage going forward, tactically. On the paper at least.

Think 2 strikers system would make a return pretty soon.

That was the market Rafa operated in. He had achievable targets like Aguero, Silva and Dani Alves, and all were very willing to join Rafa and Liverpool at the height of our European success. But all didn't happen because we chose to invest in multiple cheaper players hoping they would turn out to be good. With hindsight now, would you still rather sign multiple players like Pennant, Riera, Kuyt over a single Silva, Aguero or Alves?

Of course with hindsight I wouldnt do that. Even Benitez wouldnt do that with the help of hindsight. But I never even know those names were linked with us back then. I only know that we signed Carroll 6mths before Aguero joined City for like 5m more. Pretty bad piece of business, no hindsight needed.

And dont get me wrong, I said I could understand, doesnt mean I agree with it. And I dont agree with it, generally.

Quality always come with a price. Make no mistake about that. Not all expensive signings will turn good, but your chances of getting flops out of them is lesser compared to buying from lesser known players.

On the contrary, I think we are paying the premium to mitigate that risk, NOT the other way round.

We are in a position to add better players to a reasonably strongest LFC squad depth in years. FSG has opened a little for M Salah. Hope its not too late to add more else LFc might suffer a "arsenal" situation (last year)

The way Barca propping up their approach on Coutinho is almost the same the way they did with Suarez. They keep feeding media with 'news' of Coutinho agreeing to terms or Coutinho decided to play for Barca. Soon, this will escalate with Barca players giving support/praising Coutinho and urging him to sign for Barca. Typical Barca transfer SOP there.

Finally... Liverpool quoted €150m for Cout. That is a fair price.

If I were FSG, I'll take it. That's crazy money and the Premier League is the priority.

With that cash, I'm sure Klopp can do a lot, and we do have quite a glut of good midfielders already this season.

So much of madness and wayang in the market this season! Hahaha! I mean, do you honestly believe that Neymar won't take the money from PSG because his buddies persuaded him to stay?!!

150m is a lot of money no doubt. We also have a glut of midfielders. Thing is none of them can effectively replace coutinho's threat in the final third. Also what that much of incoming fund I'm sure we wouldn't be able to find "suitable" replacement on the market. Maybe ozil? But he is too casual when not in possession.

If I were FSG I'm gonna hold onto cout for another season. His price would easily rise for another 30-40m after some exposure in the UCL

Do you know how hard it is to find a player who can fit into Liverpool's mould.

After Owen left, it costed Rafa like 4-5 duds before we land Our 20 goal a season striker. And those duds didn't come cheap. And course, there is this saying 'no player is bigger than the club' which fans like to echo.

Yea true, but the journey to replace the Coutinho may well be more arduous and costly than we think it is. Which midfield player we have in our stable who is playing at the same level as Coutinho? Lallana? Henderson? Gigi? Not even close.

Ever why we keep on rebuilding? This is exactly why we always end up in the same conundrum. It is not everyday we will get a Suarez after Torres left. Think about it. Money isn't everything.
