should check the forums before asking, because this is a very popular question. but the answer is no - computer parts are not taxable |

I purchased a traveling bag (29", biggest size) from Amazon US. Total value plus shipping is $126.74, but they've refunded me the shipping fee which was $35.98 due to delay in shipment. What would the CIF now be? Am also wondering if it's taxable, as Amazon automatically calculates the estimated tax for bags over $100, but as this is $90 for the bag itself, it did not calculate the estimation.

QUOTE(Topaz House @ Aug 16 2009, 02:57 AM) Yupe, depends on their mood. Different kastam officer different protocal. You can never really tell. If from personal name and personal address they might let it go but if they feel like charging it, they will ask the receiver to open the packet to see what's inside. |

ahh crap, was thinking of ordering a camcorder from hongkong online and send it here but after reading, even thought these cameras/camcorders are tax free, seems it also depends on the kastam officers mood??! I don't think i will be ordering anytime soon

i just went to settle my imports last Friday in Butterworth. The officers are friendly and no hanky-panky.
guys, remember, must bring your INVOICE along. else the assessor will use his "expert judgment" to assess the value of your products. and they can be 'quite' high !!!! As for consumables, make sure your imports are within usage of "one month" 1. Don't care about manufacturer MOQ, you pay up everything first, and then ask them to ship in batched of values <RM500. That way you can get exemption aka "pelepasan". Believe me, tax is still more than delivery charges if you ship in bulk. 2. For "personal use", consumables must be < 1 month usage. Above that sure kena tax. What constitutes "less than 1 month usage" is rather vague. So play along with the numbers. |
