My wild guess is 1 sticker for only 1 item. If 1 for all, then towkey hp all gone millionaire already Just like cars, importer can only bring overseas car as many as the AP been allocated to them.

Hi strayato.hirzaki,Not taxable but might subject to get an AP approval from SIRIM Why the need for an AP since as you mention Laptop is not taxable goods? What is a AP and the uses of it?Does having a AP meaning you will be able to import the item under free tax?How i apply the AP?Is the procedures tedious cos i found it quite troublesome to apply a AP just for 1 laptop moreover it is for personal use only. |

AP and tax is 2 different things. AP for example is the permit given to you if you want to import certain things which need SIRIM. ie like handphones. Whether the item is taxable or not is under Custom dept, regardless of AP. You need to confirm with Customs for that. Call them cause many complaint that the Custom website is confusing or not complete (no info).
Just like cars, you need AP permit to import overseas car. And yes its taxable. BTW watches I heard is tax free or duty free. Is is the same? Tax & Duty? Need someone to confirm this. Many times I passed by watches shop and saw the duty/tax free stickers on their display glass. QUOTE How i apply the AP?Is the procedures tedious cos i found it quite troublesome to apply a AP just for 1 laptop moreover it is for personal use only. I don't think you can call it tedious. But you can ONLY apply it at Putrajaya office. Spend whole working day for me (Perak) to drive to Putrajaya. Why do you want to import laptop from overseas? We do have many choices here in Malaysia? Unless you can get it so much cheaper in other countries. This wasn't intend to scare you but handphones for example, cost rm200+ for AP (SIRIM sticker) for 1 handphone. Don't know about laptop. Hand carry or courier? If hand carry, you can claim it as a used item, maybe they won't tax you (withput the box) This post has been edited by minamie: Mar 8 2008, 02:51 AM |

As for the laptop, yes i found something what i want and the price is indeed cheaper. Only issues is the custom clearance as the item would be delivered by air so if there is anything, i will have problem clearing it out when you know that custom rules are always changing |

QUOTE(qkchuah @ Mar 8 2008, 12:00 PM) @minamie, No problem actually if you want to import computers or parts from overseas. The only question is are they taxable and how much. You can undervalue the price as declaring is concern. But then they are not stupid bunch officers. Its part and parcel of their daily lives. Thanks for the clarification. As for the laptop, yes i found something what i want and the price is indeed cheaper. Only issues is the custom clearance as the item would be delivered by air so if there is anything, i will have problem clearing it out when you know that custom rules are always changing One more thing, you can always find a loophole if you know the law and how it works. Just to be safe, prepare extra 20% for tax on top of the price (excluding S&H). Good luck mate! |

OK, my situation here is rather complicated and I don't know how to solve it.
I ordered a phone from Hong Kong via PayPal since I have some funds in there, without knowing that I will be charged on SIRIM permit and duty and DHL charges blah blah blah. The phone kena tahan at somewhere, DHL called up and ask me to obtain permit. Total about RM400. I was shocked since I bought the phone myself and thought that the charge already ended when I pay via PayPal. RM400 is certainly not a price that I can afford easily since my parents did not know about it. I have told DHL when they called me that I have decided to decline the deal but yet, they still call me every week or so regarding the matter and last week, they sent me the details which they have mentioned in the phone. What can I do about this? |

I track my parcel online with pos malaysia and it indicated that my parcel was held by Prai's custom and the remark is High Value.. the total value of my goods is RM350 like that, and inside of my parcel consist of watches, necklace and hair pins (girls accesories)..Anyhow no body contact me but I have called to pos laju center and they gave me a ref no and told me that I have to pay tax coz my parcel is being tahan by customs...
I wonder if girls accesories < rm350 is taxable?? Do I need to wait for the letter or I need to go to custom and claim back my parcel? If kena tax, how much is the charges..? Thanks for help!!! p/s refer to a few ealier threads, i guess i can ask somebody who is powerful to help and make a call and ask for more details... I'm not sure this solution can avoid taxing or not but, all the time i send something back from Japan using my own name it wont get taxed.
so maybe getting a friend who you can trust in the country where you wanna buy some stuff to help you out can save you all the troubles of taxing. remember to mark the item as a GIFT, and if you trust the logistic company, try to reduce the value of the item under RM1000. I'm sorry if this solution doesn't help at all This post has been edited by Zefthology: Mar 17 2008, 04:03 AM |
