Books are not taxable. I have been bringing in thousands of dollars worth of books over the last few years and they have never been taxed.

cool if books is not taxable... how bout if we buy magazine via ebay or maybe subscribe international magazine? will there be any tax for magazine?

Anybody here tried to import LCD TV from US? What is the tax to pay here?

52 inch LCD in US about US$1800. In Malaysia, about RM24,000.

Is it worth the savings vs risk?

hi guys, can anyone tell me how much football jerseys will be taxed? i tried looking it up, but i found it to be not taxable. however, i've heard of many, many stories of football jerseys bought online that got stopped by kastam.

so, how should i go about looking it up? i think i might've typed the wrong keyword or looked in the wrong place.

can anyone answer my question or guide me on where to look? i've looked in ATHN Duties Order 2004 and Customs Duties Order 1996 but i can't find it. but i do know for a fact that football jerseys get taxed.

LCD TV is 25% import duty + 10% sales tax on top of CIF value. Furthermore you need to have SIRIM permit.

If you read through this topic frequent, sometimes, depend on luck taxed not required. Be smart, ask your shipper mark the toys as gift.

What's the material of your football jersey? You can't find "jersey" you have to search by type of textile.

But I thought only with built in tuner got tax. If just plain LCD or plasma without tuner, got no tax. Bro, what is CIF?

thanks for your advice. The LCD in US got 2 types. First without tuner at all. I presume this has no tax in Malaysia. Second type got "HDTV" tuner. Is this considered a tuner in Malaysia since we got no HDTV?

I also notice those with tuners got many types of tuners, ATSC, DVB, NTSC, PAL, SECAM, QAM. Which one is considered tuner in Malaysia?

Any tuner that can receive TV signal is consider tuner. No matter ATSC, DV... HDTV..... or whatever spec in the future.

Just like a car. The most vital part is the engine + chasis. No matter what brand/type/spec of engine / chasis.

still got very cheap lcd and plasma with no tuner. But even with tuner and paying the tax, still much cheaper to import than buy in malaysia.

Only risk, but its a big risk, if rosak one day, mati lah. Somemore Sony Malaysia and Sharp Malaysia sure may refuse to repair parallel imported set and there aren't any repair man who dare touch plasma or lcd panels.

So US2000 (about RM8000 including shipping to Msia) vs RM22,000.

Is saving RM14,000 worth it?

What ?! 20% duties and 10% sales ? That's more than 30 if being added separately, can you still make a profit out of it?
How about phones ? I heard they only have 10% duty, how about sales tax?

it was not for profit, it's personal. a bit unlucky lar :/

but to be very very safe, make sure it is not heavy...anything not more than 1kg for expensive clothes. if this is for personal use lar, for sale then i'm sure it's not a very economical way.

mine was 1.2 kg, and worth about RM450. but, as usual, kastam use a higher exchange rate and estimated my cost at RM520+! so 20% duties is calculated from their esitimation of the value of my items.

and the 10% sales tax is calculated from the sum of the 20% duties tax and their estimation of my items. sigh........

also, if you can bear the risk of losing the items, you could always choose normail airmail. at least you get to nego with the kastam. with UPS and other courier services, they will blindly pay for you first and then claim the tax money from you. so if you don't pay up, you don't get the item.
