Depending on the bonus/free item, if it's just a sample size/travel size, not full sized product, shud be tax free.

I order dolls from Japan, Korea etc quite often and I've only been charged tax on two of them (out of about 20).biggrin.gif Both times the tax was around 10%; for one I had to go collect it at KLIA and I think the customs lady was being nice after she saw it was a doll. the other one came by courier (seller insisted) and I got charged about 10% when it arrived, the courier claimed that was the customs charge but I never got the customs receipt.tongue.gif

Customs goes by the declared value on the customs form. Depending on the seller, sometimes you can ask them to declare a value that's equal to less than RM500 and describe the item as "toy", to lessen the chance it will be caught.

I always use EMS for ordering dolls and have never lost any packages sent that way (I think the tracking discourages "sticky fingers" tongue.gif ). If you are asking the sender to mark down the declared value below the selling price, it's advisable to use EMS.

Customs tax is CIF value. Cargo + Insurance + Freight. Layman term is including Fedex + Insurance + Goods cost.
Also you may under-declared. It is the perogative of the Customs Officer to hike up the price if he/she feel that way. Customs also have internet access mind you. They are not stupid.

Hi,

Sorry to ask if has been asked before. Does anyone know the code and estimated tax and duties amount for any cotton clothing as i have a designer friend who sending me some clothes for my own use if the amount is under rm500 including shipping?

I know that i could declare as sample or gift but i'm worried it would be taxed and duties have to be paid as the customs are sneaky bastards. Could someone let me know the estimated tax and duties % for it? The code as well thanks.
