Hi guys.
Anyone who stays in Cyberjaya subscribes their internet? Previously they are called City Broadband http://www.citybroadband.my/residential.html and then they rebranded recently.

I will move to Cyberjaya soon but just curious their reliability.

Impressive, but you have to use it long term to see its stability and reliability.

There're no 30 Mbps plans listed on their new website.

The most cikai one is 100 Mbps for RM 129 monthly.

How/why'd you get 30 Mbps?

Old router?

where has this ISP been? 1Gb/s for RM 400 is great, especially because i have a router that can do 10Gb/s symmetrical with no hardware acceleration and a heavy config and with VPN too.

Can i order 10 of these and pipe them into SFP+ ?

Mikrotik CCR1036 with 2 SFP+ ports. I also have a switch with 2 SFP+ ports too. That router has 36 CPU cores, each core capable of 1Gb/s of NAT + PPPOE+ VPN + configs. The extra processing power can be used for gigabits worth of VPN too.

When i bought my CCR it was at the RRP back then when it first came out straight from europe, i wonder if its possible to get it for the same price in malaysia as i've been seeing 50% price hikes from mikrotik distributors in malaysia. The RB750Gr3 (hex) for instance costs more than rm 400 in Malaysia when its retail price is $70 which is what you'll find the price at in US and the malaysian distributors dont even include GST in pricing for that huge price hike.

i can say that the stability of Cyberjaya Broadband is really good. The device has been up for nearly 18 days without the IP being refresh unlike my old maxis fiber, the PPPoE connection will disconnect after few days.

any wired ISP in malaysia will give good latency and bandwidth to singapore. I find TM to have the best latency for most international stuff so if you game on servers outside south east asia you will find TM to be the best in that regard. Since im stuck with TM and Time at the moment i cant order this and see how it is. Anyone with this internet, please try a speed test to a foreign server in US or EU.

Is there any other GPON solution to replace this Calix?
I did found some, but not sure if it will working or not.
Furthermore, Calix is inaccessible via SSH nor telnet.

Yes, but you need an SFP port on your router and a SFP GPON module (the correct type).

Yes, but you need an SFP port on your router and a SFP GPON module (the correct type).

I wonder the Ubiquiti GPON is compatible with SHTech's OLT.

many brands have a GPON SFP module. There are a couple of types at least.

I know some here say theres authentication on modem but truthfully there isnt. a modem's job is only to convert between one medium and another. Many modems are also routers because they come with their own CPU and RAM that the manufacturer just make it a router too. The actual authentication and encryption is done by the router.

There is actually authentication between ONT and OLT, SN or SN+pwd being the common ones. GPON SFP modules such as the mikrotik branded only can be configured by OLT provisioning pushing the configuration to the SFP ONT. Without ability to change the serial number or password for the ONT, you will need the Isp to do the provisioning on the OLT side. And your isp won't entertain you unless you are on proper business account (not home or basic business).

does anyone here subscribe for the 500Mbps or the 1Gbps plan?
i've heard that they are providing you with a different GPON router which is Calix Gigacenter if am not mistaken? what model is it? FYI the standard >500mbps is using the Calix Gigahubs.

Hi all,

i don't know if tenants are brief about this but i was informed by a technician in sh technology that if your internet connection is down. Check if the broadband status is on or not.

If the broadband led is green + service led is red/off : proceed to report to sh tech
if the broadband led is red/off + service led is red/off: file a complaint to your building management.

The cabling is handled by building management so when you report to sh tech when your broadband led is off, it will take a longer time for your complaint to be processed since sh tech then will need to contact the building management about your internet issue.

I believe this is due to the maintenance carried out by SH. They are saying that there is a problem in Core Fiber and they are going to remedy it to another secondary core.

Mine is getting 100 mbps for my condo.

But I can top up a bit for 500 mbps and also 1 gbps ..

So i ask to upgrade for 500 mps .. they are still using the same router

But when I test speed it varies. .. sometimes 200 .. sometimes 400 .. not so stable ..
since my condo is giving me 100 mbps for 2 years, might as well I stick to free one.

So after 1 week of testing, I complain to them and downgrade back to 100.

Sufficient enough for me

Which Condo that are you staying @odin88? Ceria or Garden or Masreca?
In my home, 100Mbps is currently underutilized for daily browsing. Average around 10-20Mbps.

Back to the topic, i did ask them last January and they said they will gave you another router if i believe the user *requested*.
The device will be the GigaCenter. But am not sure which model. I believe it's between 844 & 854.

It's simple mate, here's the basic step :-

Login in to your calix router
turn off your wireless
plug in your custom router on the calix lan port
if you are using asus like mine, use the auto detect function on the wan side.
if u are using other router, make sure using an IP that is in the same subnet as the Calix LAN.

Some features like Dynamic DNS will not work here due to multiple NAT that is being implemented by Setia Haruman.
U can't get a public IP on your CAlix though.

Anyhow, do let me know if u encounter any issue. Glad to helps.

btw above step tu applied kalo mode router tu ialah "wireless router".

paling senang nak wat buat router mode tu in "access point" mode. die akan auto nego dhcp ngan calix.
kawe pakai asus rt-ac1200g+.

Actually, its not directly related with DNS. Yes true indeed that; whenever people is searching for a website, DNS request will be sent to query the data from source to destination. In our case, the router is set to Google DNS (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4), and you can imagine there is 900 unit of Masreca that send a query to Google DNS. Truthfully, this is consider to be a on small scale compared to a global DNS Request.

So What is DNS - DNS is a Domain Name Services that Mapping a numerical IP address to a Human readable format called "words" Eg :

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: google.com
Addresses: 2404:6800:4001:80e::200e
216.58.221.206.

216.58.221.206 -> Google.com

In an easy word, DNS is a kind of services that we don't need to remember a numerical addresses of a webpage. We only need to remember the page name instead of its number.

So why do i say that DNS is not directly related?

====================

The real issue lie in the NAT (Network Address Translation).

What is NAT then?

It is a process in which remapping one IP address space into another by modifying network address information in the IP header of packets while they are in transit across a traffic routing device. For example, the SH network is using a Multiple layer of NAT to advertise the internal IP. When the IP is in SH, the NAT addresses will be super-net to form a single IP going out to the outside world.

For Example, let say Ceria residence is having a a class A private subnet of 10.10.10.0/24 and Masreca is having a Class A Private subnet of 10.10.11.0/24 - Both of this subnet will be aggregated/Supernetted to form a Class A private network of 10.10.10.0/23. This Network is then advertise to the outside world using only a single Public IP address.

So This is where the real issue come, A single Public IP is having a lot of query to Google DNS. That is why Google is flagging the IP and to counteract it, google implemented CAPTCHAs to verify that the request is from a valid user and not from an automated request.

You can ask the residence to check what is the Public IP is being used. I bet that all of the residence of Masreca or Ceria residece will get the same public address.
For example; Currently in Masreca they are having this Public IP : "Your IPv4 Address Is: 202.168.64.141 "

======================

To resolve this kind of issue, in the past, I've subscribe to a Maxis Fiber services and they do provide a public addresses to their user. The advantage of using a publicly assign (DHCP) addresses is that I've never experience the CAPTCHAs issue and and i can directly access my router from outside. Easy word is that my router is accessible from WAN environment. From google POV, using a public address will make the user looks legitimate due to less queries being send to google instead of using a private address that is being NAT-ed (is that a word? lol) that send a LOT of request from only single IP address.

======================

I did check and it seems that we can try to ask SH to provide a public assign DHCP IP instead of using a NAT-ed IP to assign to the CALIX router.

Below is the IP range of SH :

inetnum: 202.168.64.0 - 202.168.79.255
netname: CITYBROADBAND
descr: Setia Haruman Technology, Sdn Bhd,

Below is the IP range of Maxis :

inetnum: 202.75.128.0 - 202.75.159.255
netname: MAXISNET
descr: Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd

Indeed, Maxis have more IP allocation compared to SH thus this is might be the reason why maxis can offer public IP to their customers.
Anyhow, I can suggest the user to contact SH and ask them to change to Public address instead of Private address.
I've done that before with Maxis but not sure with SH.

UPDATE : Call SH/CBB and ask them to allocated a public IP address on your account. you will need to provide them with your ONT serial and MAC. This process will be completed around 3 hours by them.

=========================

Changing the DNS address to other address will help to alleviate the situation temporarily but not entirely.
Even though you are changing the google DNS to a Cloudflare DNS, if you still using the Google search engine, google will still detect you are from the same address and you will still need to solve the CAPTCHAs.

Hope above explanation helps.

Addresses:  2404:6800:4001:80e::200e
          216.58.221.206.
216.58.221.206 -> Google.com

In an easy word, DNS is a kind of services that we don't need to remember a numerical addresses of a webpage. We only need to remember the page name instead of its number.

So why do i say that DNS is not directly related?

====================

Check My Siggy bro. That is on LAN.
for wifi, you can get 100Mbps if you are on 5Ghz.
unfortunately, the provided router don't have 5Ghz. (Hence that's why i use different router for wireless)
You can get around 50Mbps on 2.4Ghz.

Yesterday,i saw some ads inside facebook. It's 109 for 100Mbps.
New speed 300Mbps for 149.
500Mbps & 1Gbps same old price 259 and 399 respectively.

I suggest you go check TIME broadband. 1Gbps for 199 only.

Request for a public IP address. This will resolve your Captchas issue.
i've done that. You need to provide them with your ONT serials and MAC.

From attachment below, you can see that my router has been assigned with a public address instead of private IP range.

Please take note, a Public IP only given to subscriber who subscribe their own service. As per record that we check, your unit is under developer package. We unable to proceed with this request.

Reply that email and this is further excuse :

Dear Customer,

As per record, yes we are sure, maybe it given to the customer accidentally. Public IP only given to personal subscriber. For the user who are using Public IP under developer package will be automatically revert back to Private IP address soon. Thanks

Are any of you facing intermittent connection with Cyberjaya Broadband where every few minutes or so the net will go down. Simple way to check is by ping -t and the connect is horribly unstable. I dont know what else to do, im using Cat7e cable to the Calix router. The only solution i see is buying my own router with 5ghz (but im on ethernet and not WLAN) or perform a proper network analysis with a tool for a month and twitter/fb complain them.

They sent their technical guys who look more like school kids and changed the fibre clip in the calix because the fibre line was above 24db when its supposed to be lower. I regretted taking Cyberjaya broadband, least with Maxis FTTH they cut your throat with price but the connection is never this unstable.
Haizz now have contract to undo.

I am having the same issue last monday. Escalate and call them. They reset my connection few times and it worked till today. Why bother having a 5Ghz router if the cable itself is showing a line degradation?

Did you upgrade to a higher speed?
Try TIME Broadband. i've heard they have a nearly 99% uptime.

Bad service. I have to send them proof of payment every month even though I paid via JomPay. Tried calling hotline, hard to get through.

Now my account is suspended, apparently because I haven't paid for 2 months. Only January bill came and I have settled it.

This is worse than TM. F**k monopoly.

Can confirm. Using this in centrus soho, keep getting packet loss for no reason and intermittent downtime from 30 mins to 4 hours. Very2 irritating. Trying to change to time, but no coverage. Lucky im leaving this place soon.

Yea heliozguard Do not ever subscribe to Cyberjaya Broadband, you will get intermittent connection from the source nothing to do with your router and they will say we promise you 30 or 100 MBps which is true but what is the point if the packet keeps dropping every 5 minutes and i have to wait for it to reconnect. I guess we either wait for TM/Maxis to lay fiber in CHV or just wait for TIME which will do a better job. I will go for the latter as they are already in surrounding condos.

If you're using this ISP you're almost likely to be able to switch to other new upcoming isps on your open fibre network built by TNB.

Consider switching to DiGi Home Fibre or Celcom Home Fibre.

I am looking forward to this. But so far only 2 operators that is being leased by TNB. No news yet on digi or celcom.

Hi all,

I just subscribed to city broadband due to it is the only available ISP in my location ranting.gif , it seems they are using Calix router(all-in-one).

I am planning to purchase a better router this week. How do i set Calix to be an ONU only? Just turn all every features(wifi, firewall, etc.) ? Do i just use DHCP on new router to get IP from Calix?

Anyone has similar experience on setting up a new router, with Calix as ONU?

Just turn off your wifi, better to put the router in static address settings. easier to manage.
it is easy. i used Calix ONU + Asus wifi Router

I didnt bought any, i have extra TP Link Archer C60 and Dlink DIR-842 from UniFi. Both are able to setup as a router.
I turned off DHCP from Calix and do Static IP on my own router, and successfully requested for Public IP address from CBB as i am having issues logging into certain game platform.

To anyone who is going to request public IP address, technical support from their hotline doesnt know what is this. Email to [email protected] helps.
public IP request

Since 8/25/2019(Sunday), I am starting to discover intermittent packet loss every few minutes, sometimes every few seconds. Does anyone having the same problem as me? My location is Kenwingston Square Garden. bangwall.gif

Always had that. Once a day. noticeable. Sometimes facebook can't ping, sometimes youtube not loaded. after half an hour on average, then it resolved.

I have another question here,

Is it normal to have different IP address on Calix (11.0.xxx.xxx) and some website that checks my public IP address (202.168.xxx.xxx)? URL
FYI i already requested public IP address from CBB

Because i tried to do port forwarding on Calix to my server but it seems failed when i check from a port forwarding test website.

Yes it is free. Double confirmed with their billing department. I guess as long as you not requesting for static IP, it is free.

Wow, looks like this TNB-based broadband is problematic. It is not covered in my place just yet (mainland Penang), but it is good to know that we can request for public IP to enable port forwarding and dynamic DNS. I use these a lot! I believe just give them time to improve.

I have one question though (for future reference). From where the fibre come from? From electrical pole? I'm on landed property where the TM (phone) pole is at the back of my house and TNB is at the front.

The reason why I ask this question is, I've done piping for my Unifi fibre to go to a room at ground floor at the back side of my house. That room is where I placed the modem and router, and also a switch, wired to all over my house. If the City Broadband is from electrical pole, I believe it will cost me quite a lot so that the fibre will be routed towards the back of my house.

Any City Broadband subscriber here perform port forwarding without any issue? I use port forwarding for torrenting, VPN server, my NAS access, Plex, etc.. Any issue? Does City Broadband have any problem with torrenting?
