Heheh... you never moss ah? Moss would look nice. So you got CO2 supply? How bout the temperature of your tank? Ai, I can't go far with my small tank also since the temperature is always 20C to 30C.... kills the plants that I put in.... coz the tank is really very small.

ah hun keep the temp under 29 will do. get a small fan may help.

no i don't put temperature cos the water is cool, unless i feel warm water that means more than 29 oledi.

Nice one. Anyway, what kind of fish do you wanna put in that tank?

not sure yet... could be just a few tetra.. but not until 2 - 3 weeks later

so co2 tab is enough? no need the equipment?

if ur tank is small..... my 12" X 10" X 12", nano tank on top i use the CO2 container.

if small like below photo nano tank, tab will do.

this is only from my understanding, not experiance... cos the nano tank ontop is my 1st plated tank... if success then i will make my small nano tank also. its about 7" X 5" X 6".

No so sure about this, but I've only started this hobby in January, but if you tie riccia to wood, won't that come lose easily? Most that I see are secured to via hairnet.

As for CO2, I use a DIY yeast CO2.

yeah..i love this kind of tank..i've seen one at XL fish shop at shah alam...they put some little shrimp in their tank...very nice!

For DIY CO2, I just use a 1.5 liter bottle and add 2 teaspoon of sugar and slightly less than 1/2 teaspoon of sugar. Will last me about 5-6 days.

I use a 375ml bottle for my 1.5gallon cube on my office desk. Works well for me.

I'll post some pics when I get home.

For water, I just fill it up to the point where it starts to curve in. Right after the plastic label for most fizzy drink bottles. Not sure about others here though.

the plants tank u need to keep yamoto shrimp to keep the grass clean, one cleaning fish if the tank not big, water change 30% once 1 mth maybe.. will do.

yes CO2 is for the plant to grow n also need fertilizer. n need the light too.

if small small nano tank u can use CO2 Tabs. if bigger then just get a CO2 system or container. u can make ur own CO2 too

Finally someone started a planted tank thread. All these while all posted in Aquarium thread. Now most talking about planted over there.

I'm wondering how much does it need to start a errr... let's say a 2ft tank?

Depends what you want in your tank, really. Equipment wise, price varies from location to location. Think about: filtration system, lighting, CO2, flora, soil, temperature devices. If you've got the money to spend or have a tight budget. Google for local sites, and you'll be surprised that the planted tank does have a healthy following. Run through the Aquarium thread for starters. Have fun reading

5.5 gallon with 2 dwarf puffers and 1 otos and 1 yamato.


12 gallon with a number of fish.

4)Plants - $ 20.50

hmm nice to have a new enthusiast. water change is necessary. it is unavoidable unless you want your fish floating upside down aquariums are not like the normal environment where you have fresh water from rain and river flowing into lakes, seas and what nots. aquarium is a closed environment. unless you have a heavily planted tank and few fishes, water change have to be done quite frequent loh.



brother nezu.......30% per month arh??some forumner suggest 20%-50% weekly leh...........my puny tank is 1.5 feet length, 7 inch in width and 11.5 inch in height.pics already taken now looking for card reader for my camera card so that i could upload and get some comments hehe

but to be really safe get a test kit and to test on water quality regularly so you know when you should change.

Hmmm... I change about 500ml of water every 4 days.... if never change in 1 week... can see water becomes... well, dunno how to explain but will have foam bubbles on the top and my fishes do not look so well....

I am quite happy that my small tank has survived for 1 year already. Now occupied by 1 betta and 5 tetras.... and a snail that keeps laying eggs hahah.... but always only 1 snail.

WAWW 50% weekly??? how about with heavy plants?

well i usually change water once a week around 25%. usually i look at the water and see if its cloudy?are there weird smells?water slightly yellowish in color? it's just some guide not a definite rule nezu. some dudes in the forum suggest 25% to 50% weekly water changes, searched around on the net also the same. but the lfs at my place said no need to change water weekly........so the best method i think is to get a test kit. test regularly maybe few days once so that is quite a good indicator when the water quality is deteriorating and you can change the water...i read also for some they do daily water changes........ its up to you. so far been doing weekly changes and my plants, fish are in good condition. no need to do until 50% lah coz the changes in water like ph might coz a lot of problem. i think 25% per week is ok already.

ohh then ok.. scare me 50% hahahhahha got it! thanks!

Dude, the RM50 shrimp you saw could be the A grade CRS. That is consider a good price lor. Some higher grade CRS cost RM600-1200 per piece.

You can use the water siphon that's readily available in most fish shops.

what is CRS?? i don 'tknow how to see, but is not worth i see so small 1 cm like that only

hi welcome here.. hahah but the questions hv to wait sifu to answer u..

don't scoop the water out it would cause alot of ermmm turbulence in the water. use a plastic pipe to siphon the water out. also dun just pour the water in. it would cause alot or turbulence as well. the turbulence would change your aquascape if its too strong sumore your fish later siphon the water back in from a clean pail. here's how i usally change my fish tank water. get an empty pail place it lower than the tank siphon water out. clean pail put in fresh water add some anti chlorice according to guide. place pail higher than tank either on chair or something to support and siphon it into the aquarium. minimal damage to your aquascape


crayfish can grow quite large and i think they might destroy your plants.....i've no idea as i've never kept crayfish as pets before. not flexiglass dude its plexiglass or acrylic. read from the net that if you're placing the tank on a stand make sure that there are support for the entire area of the bottom of your tank if not the plexi will crack. glass tanks are more durable but plexi is lighter.

You can use a hose and connect to the outlet of yr filter..Once the water is coming out from the hose. Then you can just take it out from the outlet and place it inside the aquarium. Beside water change, you need to dose the liquid fertilizer and some trimming on the aquatic plants.

CRS is Crystal Red Shrimp. The first batch was released from Japan and arrived in Singapore years ago. A piece was sold at S$8000. I know there are some people said what is the point to spend few hundred to thousand ringgit for a small tiny fella? But when you are really into it. You won't mind to spend that kind of money. Just that you guys not yet how to appreciate the beautiful of CRS. Try to goto www.shrimpnow.com (I am one of the mederator there. But seldom post now.) and www.petshrimp.com for more info.

You can have a very low budget to up a planted tank. Gain some knowledge and experience first before you became rich and able to get expensive stuff.
I had kept the red, blue, purple and other crayfish before. You can't mix all of them together. Unless you have very big tank. Otherwise, they will fight and eating up the loser. Beside that, you need to have a covered tank. They will climb out through the wire of the pump or hose at the middle of the nite. Then you will find them inside your kitchen or toilet. They will sense which area inside your house is humid and wet. Then they will try to escape. What I did was by placing a plate of water nearby the tank. Then you will find one or two of them resting on the plate at the next day. You can have a pair in a 2ft tank. Prefer to have some gravel, rock and wood for them to rest and hide. They do like strong water flow and full of oxygen. They eat everything...like vegetable, fruits, smaller fishes, pellet.

what is 'fan shrimp'?

Having a shrimp tank. You need to cycle the tank for 1-2 months. Sometime you will need to take up to 3-4 months. If you are using some better products. May be just a month will do. Cycle the tank, planting some aquatic plants and dose the bacteria will help a lot.

Different shrimp will have different session. This session are with yamato, green, bee and red nose. Sometime will have malayan, tiger, cherry..etc. Those you saw in my tank are from another tank of mine. which was a shrimps breeding tank house with more than thousand of shrimps.

Red nose shrimp - Rm4.5 per piece x 4 =RM18
Blue shrimp - RM2 per piece x 10 =RM20
Green shrimp - RM5 per piece x 6 =RM30

Yamato shrimp- RM1.8 per piece x 6 =RM10.80
Malayan shrimp - Rm0.5 per piece x 20 =RM10

Like i said, they eat everything. You keep plants...they will take it as food. You keep other tank mate. They will take it as food as well. So, do you know the requirement of Paludarium or not? If yes, you will not asking me to keep crayfish inside Paludarium. Futhermore, Paludarium is open space. Crayfish can just climb out easily.

The only choice is a tank with few stones will do.

i ask about paludarium just bcoz i like how it look .. maybe it can be a nice hangout for the crayfish then can go inside the water back. ofcoz the top will be covered.

about planted aquarium. does it really need co2 system even its a small one ? my plan is to use diy yeast co2 and diy co2 reactor.

Paludarium is nice to keep the dart frog. and do remember there are plenty of plants inside the setup and remember what crayfish favourites.

if you dont want to have co2. then pratice daily water change.

This group just started meeting up for Teh Tarik sessions, and you're more than welcome to join us. More heads trying to look for aqua flora and fauna are much better than stumbling around in the dark. Anyways, we've practically gone round looking for LFS in the PJ/Shah Alam area. yeah I have a fish to give away as well. if anyone wants him can have him. hehehe it's a malawi cichlid. still small lah but needs a new home. be warned though it's very aggresive to some extent. hehehe

michanz yes u can get them from the lfs but the best option would be to ensure u have enough nutrients in your soil and ensure the plants get enough lighting.

ur DIY CO2, i am not sure is it enoguh pressure the CO2 throught the dissuser, some ppl say yes, some say no. if canot u can get a air stone too.

u don't see to hv UV light, its kill the good bacteria in ur water too. no need externail water pumpu too.

get a HOB filter with the right flow, withsurface skimmer, when plant photo period, they produce oil.

get light (count ur water, and check how many watt they need).

Ph tester

get a good soil if u can afort.

What soil you use? If the tank is small, I think no need skimmer right coz can scoop it out....

I'm wondering if all the stuffs to start up a planted tank is available in Kch or not. Thinking of starting one when I go back to Kch for industrial training, since my dad is keeping some fishes as well, it shouldn't have any problem keeping that tank when I come back to Melaka again. My job is to poison him with the attractive tank and some basic knowledge

surface skimmer is the filter take water from your water also from the water surface.. take away all the protine the plant produce.

5lb tank for car? is it liquid or powder? if it used for powder then canot use the tank. use liquid CO2 then ok.

if u can go damansara damai there, u get a better deal compare with 88

yup i use pressurized CO2 tank (2000psi) as a additional cooling method for the intercooler. the selonid is busted tho.
