Merchant might get less if customer use Amex, this will cause many merchant do not accept amex.

I think merchant no accept Amex is nothing to do with how many customer want to use.

Merchants do not lose anything if a customer does not use AMEX since the bank chargers are only applied when a transaction is made. Therefore a merchant would not drop amex just because there are less people using it. In fact the merchants are happier if there are less AMEX users since they have to pay less bank chargers. AMEX bank chargers are higher than VISA/MASTER.

No, if low demand, the merchant will choose to stop accepting Amex. The more payment option is a selling point to a merchant too. Amex charges can be lower if merchant hit certain transaction amount for the month.. bank charge the fee based on different tier of sales for the month.. so, low usage by customer might be a reason for them to stop accepting Amex as they can't hit the monthly target to enjoy lower merchant fee
