QUOTE(MGM @ Apr 25 2017, 02:30 PM) I think MBB made a big mistake of taking off the 5% weekend CB previously. The big pools of Amex users decided not to use the Amex card n subsequently merchants also stop accepting d card. All its effort of building up biz for Amex just gone down d drain. Hope MBB learns the lesson n retains this benefit. Had really nothing to do with more or less users using AMEX. One of the main issue is that AMEX charges a higher fees for the merchant compared to Visa or Master hence the decision to drop AMEX

Just want to know, is it worth to use Maybank Visa/Amex credit card or change the cash when go travel?
Like travel to China. Is it better change RMB at Malaysia first or change some rmb and use Credit Card at China?

By right they not allowed to choose not to accept amex, unless their machine is down or whatsoever.

Just to share your experience with China's scene since I travel there quite often, big cities like Beijing and Shanghai have no issue of accepting overseas credit cards but 2nd tier cities onward like Chengdu, Chongqing have issue recognizing our cards and most of the time, they will not accept our cards. I use AliPay and WeChat Wallet most of the time if I'm in China or use my ICBC debit card.

Not sure if Beijing accept AMEX? But AliPay and WeChat not accept Malaysia bank card right? The ICBC is issued by Malaysia bank or? This post has been edited by jiaen0509: Apr 25 2017, 09:47 PM

I did use before AmEx in Beijing for few times, usually in a western restaurant or international merchants. They accept Malaysia credit cards. ICBC issued in Malaysia, next time will apply for China bank accounts in my next trip. May go to Guangzhou next month, well let's see.

Anyway, I'm a hardcore plastic card user, will prefer plastic card over cash.
