Old notes

Bank of Taiwan (?) only one bank will change, no charge.

*
Last Dec when i changed in airport they charged me for NT20 per note. End up i kena charged NT90 - NT30(processing fees) plus 3 old notes. So all together not more than RM10. So no nid go to change back to new notes la. Nid to pay parking somemore plus petrol.

Hi... I'm also planning for a trip to Taiwan sometime this year... Any suggestions when would be the best month to visit Taiwan? Would like to enjoy cool weather and some flower-admiring... tongue.gif

Another question; is a budget of around RM3k for 2 person sufficient for a say, 5 day 4 night trip? Need some advice on budgetting here as I'm a student on a limited budget... smile.gif

Thanks!

I'm wondering when would be the peak season in Taiwan whereby everything is more expensive than usual... I know CNY is considered one, how about other periods? When else is peak season in Taiwan?

Well not really sure about peak season in Taiwan. If you like cool weather, best time for sure from Nov to Feb where temp ~ nov/dec ~20C & Jan/Feb probably ~15C on Avg. Thus these are the best mth visiting Taiwan.

Too bad during these mths, most of the goods/fashion/clothing are for winter so expecting seeing winter clothing rather than T-shirts & etc...During peak summer & as other part of sub-tropical countries, temperature can be as high as 38C which can be hotter than KL! Oh BTW..summer mths are also typhoon mths hor:

Are you planning to visit Taiwan this summer?

Congratulations! You couldn't have chosen a better destination. Summer is a great time to visit Formosa, especially if you're a beach lover. However, you should be warned against something... TAIWANESE TYPHOONS!!!

Hi to the forumers here... =)

I'm currently planning my trip to Taiwan, probably going around end-April or May... Now scanning for cheap air tickets and the cheapest I can get is from AirAsia, roughly RM700... Is it advisable to book now or rather wait for the upcoming MATTA Fair in March to buy tickets? Does AirAsia have promotions during MATTA fair?

Thanks!

Just to add...Taiwan is an inexpensive place to travel with reasonable hotel & you can even get a hostel for Rm30/day/nite. Also the food pricing is almost similar to KL. Chapfan 4 dishes NT$50, Fried Ocien NT$50, ocien Mee Sua -NT$40 & more suprisingly KL pricing food..

Also to add..Restaurants in Taipei comes wth FREE drinks normally Winter melon. So that's another saving on daily food pricing...Japanese food lovers...Set dinner & etc...only ~NT4160 compare to >RM20 in KL... (Checked at the new Q-Square food court behind Tapei railway station)

Added on February 3, 2010, 11:55 pmHi all Taiwan experts,

Need some help in planning my trip.

Duration: 2 April 2010 to 9 April 2010 (Friday to Friday).
Travel party: 5 adults (ages 63, 62, 41, 37 and 21) and a 28 months old toddler
Intended hotel: Go CityInn II

Itinerary:

Day 1 (Fri) - Arrive via Air Asia, check in hotel and Shilin Night Market

Day 2 (Sat) - Wufenphu for shopping and then Raohe Night Market

Day 3 (Sun) - Taipei City Tour covering National Museum, Taipei 101, Ximending and maybe Beitou hotspring

Day 4 (Mon) - Go to Tarako (overnight at Minsu) and if possible, go Hualien for visit also

Day 5 (Tues) - Tarako back to Taipei and dunno what to do when back in Taipei. Should I go to Yangmingshan? Any cherry blossoms during my travel period?

Day 6 (Wed) - Jiufen, Yehliu and Keelung

Day 7 (Thurs) - Wulai (Dad's must go place as he wants to see Ah Mei..=P)

Day 8 (Fri) - Home Sweet Home

What do you all think of my itinerary? Any must go places which I have missed out?

Do you think I should stay overnight at the recommended Minsu in this forum for my Tarako trip? The recommended driver, I think his Toyota Wish might not fit all of us comfortably, any alternatives?

Day 4 is 5 April 2010, Monday which is the public holiday for Ching Ming there. Will I have problem travelling? I have already avoided Jiufen on that day as I understand that there is a cemetary right at the top of the hill there and further on the way to Yehliu where Teresa Teng was laid to rest.

Thanks all in advance for your invaluable feedback.

Day 2,,veryt empty. Wufenpu is only 1 gigantic cothing back alleys market.. No need 1 whole day..few hours endough liao.

Should do Chiang Kai Shek>>Sun Yat Sen Taipei 101 & Wifenpu on 2nd day bcos on the same way

On 3rd day u probably plan going North such as National museum, Beitou, Danshui (U miss this one?)

Going to Taroko, U miss another must see - Chin Sui Cliff. The scenery is superb. Nothing much in Hualien except Taroko & Chin Sui Cliff. You can get lotsa day rate taxi of diff sizes outside the railway station dun worry & no need booking.

Hi Stimix,

Thanks for your fast reply.

My itinerary needs to take into account my parents, old liao and got gout problems...so cannot like walk a lot.

My sis itu shopaholic...trust me she can spend whole day at Wufenphu but I will limit her time, otherwise, waste time and my parents will nag coz tired ler. So Day 2 will probably follow your suggestion.

Day 3 your suggestions looks good but dont plan to go Danshui as I heard there's only this bridge to see, which I look at the pictures don't even find it a wee bit romantic as a lot of ppl claimed it to be. Maybe I am not a romantic person @~@.

Day 3 can still fit in Ximending?

When I mean Tarako, means all those interesting sites nearby lo but thanks, I will make a note on Chin Sui Cliff less I forget about it. Need to pay extra to the cab driver for this place? Very out of the way one ah? Will take your advice to hire a cab (most probably need a van!) outside the station.

Getting so excited about the trip after reading through all pages in this thread about yours, kampungboycitygal, stimix, etc...trip experience.

Xie Xie!!!

Just few days ago at Taroko, one mainland Chinese women was hit by a falling stone the size of rugby ball direct to her head. She was killed on the spot.

Well Actually I don't really like Wufenpu...rounding, rounding & rounding but atlast just got 1 warmer for NT390...not worth the effort. Anyway, for shopholic, probably diff story-lah.

Dansui is not really the bridge..Infact I failed to reach the bridge bcos the distance from the last MRt station is actually ~3km away!! I walked till the end of the old old street for ~1.5-2km & decided better shop around the old street..Which is actaully noty bad..There are lotsa nice food & also souvenir shops at this old street. & the view towards the opposite Bali township actually looks like a Volcano...Really scenic.. & not the bridge.

Dansui is more old folks friendly compare to Beitou..Even my old parent also kenot climb those Beitou are.. I actually abandoned my plan to Beitou & headed to Danshui instead bcos of hill climbing!

Xi Mending you can go every nite as well..just a short 1 station ride away from main station.. Actually you should visit Lonshan temple area as well..Full of history & walking the old street there remind me of those 70's movies of Taiwan..It's something like Ximending before restoration.

Chi Sui Cliff is further North from the entrance of Taroko. Probably ~ 5km North from the entrance..So you do need to pay xtra to go there bcos most of the Taroko package by the taxis only cover Taroko & without Chin Sui cliff.
